Do You Like Pina Coladas, and When Things Burst into Flame?~Kailor
A/N: The fanart is not by me, it is by Blue Belle, but it sure is cute! Welcome to my 150 special, which is a Kailor oneshot based on The Pina Colada Song (Escape) by Rupert Holmes. This is my first time writing Kai's POV, or anything Kailor for that matter, so it might be bad. But it's also based off the Pina Colada Song, so it might be good! Anyway, I hope you enjoy this.
Do you know how everyone says that truth is stranger than fiction?
Well, it's true. Also, people are more ridiculous than that hat Cole's always wearing.
Anyway, this is the story of how I became an idiot.
Just kidding. This is a cute story.
It's the story of how I realized that my girlfriend was the only one for me.
Please don't spit on your screen right now; it's not that sappy.
Okay, maybe it's a little sappy. I'm a romantic.
Still, don't spit on your screen. It's terrible for your phone and your mental health.
I know that from experience.
You're probably like, oh, Kai, why are you blabbering like Jay right now?
Well, I'm trying to kill time because this is a little embarrassing.
Whatever, it's story time, punks.
I was tired of my girlfriend.
Skylor was lovely and all, and oh my FSM, was she pretty, but she seemed average after a while.
She never wanted to play video games with me, and she was working all the time!
She studied non stop, and every time I would ask her what she wanted to do, she would always say, "I don't care."
Like, what's up with that?
We'd been together for a year, which was way too long. She didn't even seem into me anymore.
And everything she said was like an old record, repeating over and over until it became meaningless.
That's what I thought our relationship was. Boring, sad, and repetitive.
One day, while she slept next to me, I got a message from one of my friends. It was a link to the Ninjago City Paper. And, as I scrolled through it, I spotted something that caught my eye.
In the personal section, among "I wanna be a ninja" and "Kittens for sale" ads, a paragraph interested me.
It read like a poem, and it led me into a fantastical dream world.
"If you like pina coladas,
and when things burst into flame.
If you're not into yoga,
if you have half a brain.
If you like making love at midnight,
in the dunes of the cape.
Then, I'm the love that you've looked for.
Write to me, and escape."
I didn't think about Skylor. I know that sounds like a pretty douchey thing to do, but this writer was terrific.
And it wasn't like I was actually going to do it. I'm not that dumb. But I did have to see the beautiful person who wrote that for myself.
It filled my head with beautiful images of romantic scenes when I thought of that paragraph.
And Skylor and I just did the same boring things every day, like sad roommates who shared a bed.
I liked being spontaneous, and I liked the idea of making out in the river or getting intimate in an old motel.
It exhilarated me to imagine those kinds of things.
So, I typed up my own paragraph.
And I'm not Zane or Shakespeare, but I think it was pretty decent.
"Yes, I like pina coladas,
and when things burst into flame.
I'm not much into health food.
I am into champagne.
I've got to meet you by tomorrow noon,
and cut through all this red tape.
At a bar called Laughy's,
where we'll plan our escape."
The next morning, I got ready. Skylor had already gone to work, and I could take as many showers as I wanted.
I brushed and gelled my hair, put on my slacks, boots, and my best red collared shirt. Then I unbuttoned the top button, put on my jacket, and headed out the door.
Hopefully, I waited, with fantasies still drifting through my head.
I wondered what kind of amazing person could be this interesting and poetic.
They were probably too smart for me, but I was used to that.
And soon enough, the door creaked open.
It was my beautiful lady, in her favorite orange dress.
I couldn't believe it.
The person who was so amazing was my girl all along.
She grinned at me in that awe-striking way, and her cheeks softened.
It couldn't have been anyone else.
The corner of my lip turned upwards. "I answered your ad."
"Ah, it's you," she replied, a blush on her face.
We laughed for a while at the silliness of it all, and then I said, "I never knew,
that you liked pina coladas,
and when things burst into flame.
And the feel of the ocean,
and the taste of champagne.
If you like making love at midnight,
in the dunes of the cape.
You're the lady I've looked for.
Come with me, and escape."
I reached out my hand to her, and she took it.
I thought she was just going to hold it, but she wrapped her other arm around my torso and held me tight.
It was an incredible feeling, like my whole body was on fire.
I leaned in close, put my hands on her cheeks, and slipped my lips into hers.
She kissed back, holding me tight to her. It was sweeter than anything I had ever tasted and better than any dream I ever had. I ran my fingers through her fiery red hair and put my hand on the back of her neck.
We stayed like that for a while. I can't tell you exactly how long. It felt like forever and nothing all at the same time.
When we let go, I rested my head on her shoulder. "I never knew you were such a poet." I smirked.
"And I never knew you were so spicy." She giggled. "Are you secretly a daredevil, Mister Hair Gel?"
"Possibly," I laugh along with her. "I thought the same about you. Do you really like all those things?"
She grinned. "Of course. And I think you do too. Well, maybe you don't have half a brain..." she teased me.
I pushed her away playfully. "Sure." I scoffed. "And you're not hot."
After that, we continued our playful conversation at a table.
Soon enough, Dareth appeared. "I'm happy you could rekindle your relationship."
And that's when I remembered; Dareth was the one who had sent me the paper.
Skylor and I laughed. She remarked, "We just figured out that we're meant for each other after all."
I looked at her lovingly and then back at Dareth.
We all laughed.
The two of us went home very happy. Don't ask what happened after that. The thirteen-year-olds reading this probably don't wanna know.
Well, let's just say we did something that was in the ad.
Skylor and I are, in fact, the perfect pair. Don't try to top that.
I don't know, maybe you will. There are some crazy Jaya fans out there.
It doesn't matter. But I have to ask you,
Do you like pina coladas,
and when things burst into flame?
A/N: I hope that "wasn't half bad." I'm going to have this song stuck in my head all week. And I want a Pina colada. Thank you all for 150. Though I don't really care about followers, I wanted to do something. Because, I'm happy people love my writing, because I work really hard on it. Now, have a great whenever everyone!
