Chapter 17

Scarlett couldn't bear watching the witch cry his heart out. She watched as he clutched Atlantis's body close to him, afraid to let go.

"Can we bury him?" Scarlett murmured to Rubyn, who merely shook his head.

"We don't bury out dead Scarlett," he murmured quietly, "Watch."

She turned, glancing at Atlantis's body. His skin had begun to shimmer, cracks appearing across the pale skin amd before she could blink, his body exploded into white seafoam. She watched as the jewels that had adorned Atlantis's body drifted to the seafloor. A pair of small golden hooped earrings and a gold ring tied to a cord.

Clawed hands shook as they tried to grasp the simple jewelry but they seemed to escape his fingers.

Scarlett neared the witch, grabbing the earrings and setting it on his open palm before finally grabbing the ring but not before seeing an inscription carved in the inside.

Je t'aime.

Scarlett knew enough french to understand the words. Words that had once been whispered in her ears when she was a naive young girl experiencing the magic of Paris for the first time.

I love you.

Scarlett turned towards Morgan setting the golden ring in his trembling palms. She could feel the pain within him, the pain of losing a soul mate. The host reached out, the pad of her index finger touching his forehead.

Morgan trembled for a moment before slacking as the magic spell took over and collapsed in Scarlet's awaiting arms.

Rubyn rested his hand on her shoulder, "I'll have the servants take him to his quarters."

The words had barely left his mouth when a servant came barreling forward, his eyes frantic, "Your Majesty...  The Amethyst are approaching from the west! And an army with them!"

Rubyn cursed under his breath. He'd nearly forgotten about the young prince Alec and if the rumors were true, he was the beloved son of the king and the most treasured amongst his brothers.

"Bring the prince here!" Rubyn growled, watching the Amethyst king visible just above the field of coral.

Moments passed when the complaints of young prince Alec were heard, struggling against Raine's mighty grip, "Let me go you-" the young prince was interrupted when he saw his father approach, his face going pale.

The Amethyst king was a big man, rivaling Rubyn' size. His black hair was pulled back into warriors bun, silver streaks intertwined within the braids. His graying beard barely touched his broad muscular chest but nonetheless stood against the purple scales. Purple hues glowed dangerously beneath black brows.

"King Arimitus," Rubyn murmured, tilting his head in greeting.

"Prince Rubyn," the merman murmured, surveying the destruction around them, "I will ask a question and depending on your answer it will decide whether I should wage war against you, despite your weakened state. I take pride in fighting an enemy at their strongest but when it comes to my family, pride will be set aside."

Rubyn swallowed and he felt Alec tense up beside him.

The mans hardened gaze shifted but softened on Alec for a fraction of a second before hardening into stones, "Why is my son being held by you?"

Rubyn felt his tongue tie in his mouth, unable to say the reason why he bought the young one into his kingdom.

"I escaped!" Alec blurted, his hands covering his mouth, purple eyes wide beneath his white bangs.

King Arimitus brows furrowed, why Rubyn's rose in surprise, "Escape? Why on Amythyst would you feel the need to escape?"

Alec swam towards his father, wrapping his arms around the man' waist, purples hues staring at him, "We were on lock down and I found it as an opportunity to escape and see the migration of whales. You know how its big during this time of the season, and as I was searching I was nearly eaten by the squid looking creatures that attacked this place. Prince Rubyn took me to the cells to keep me safe. You must believe me father."

Arimitus pinched the bridge of his nose, as the other six sons groaned, most of them facepalming themselves, "Alec, how many times must I tell you, its dangerous to venture in open waters."

Alec blushed prettily, "I'm sorry father."

Rubyn could feel a twinge of gratitude towards the young merman, "King Arimitus, there is something you must know."

Alec's eyes widened, almost as if he knew that Rubyn would out his lie but the new king murmured something that still managed to pain Rubyn's heart, "My father is dead and I have taken his place as king."

King Arimitus put out his hand in sign of alliance, "Then lets put our warring past behind and start anew."

Rubyn grasped his forearm, the men signfyinf their alliance in front of exhausted Ruby warriors and ready to fight Amythyst soldiers.

"Anew," Rubyn murmured, his thoughts wandering to Scarlet.

****

It had been days after Atlantis' death and the witch had refused leave his room. He turned away the food Rubyn sent to him, only allowing a tiny light fae from the Diamond Kingdom to enter and go as he pleased.

Scarlett used her newfound powers to enchant the walls so no intruder could pass through without going through a specific door, a door heavily guarded with the fiercest warriors.

Rubyn had taken his time in speaking with the young woman but she refused his advances, simply stating that she had to recover from old wounds before beginning a new relationship.

The Amythyst soldiers had stayed to help with the reconstruction, along with the assistance of the Amber kingdom. Normally the Queen would come but it seemed that she was expecting, so in her place came her husband, a tall blonde man with blonde locks down on one side of his head while the other was shaved closely to his skull.

"King Jonas," Rubyn murmured, extending his hand in greeting, "Tis a pleasure to finally meet you."

Jonas flashed a smile, "It's good to be somewhere where the war has ended" his tone became sober, "How's Morgan? How's he holding up?"

A soft sigh left Rubyn's lips, "He's hurt and I'm not sure one can ever recuperate from losing their soul."

Jonas ran his hand through his hair, "I just hope he can still aid us. We need him with the upcoming war."

Rubyn frowned, "What war?"

Jonas arched a single golden brow, "Have you not heard? The war against Poseidon. Every god has manifested themselves in some way and only one kingdom remains without one."

Rubyn swallowed, he had just finished one war and now to enter a new one? One that involves the gods themselves?

"Which kingdom?"

Jonas glanced at the young prince Alec who was scribbling furiously in a book, "The Amythyst."

A/N:Well ladies and gents, that's it for this one. I wish I could've developed the romance between Scarlet amd Rubyn, but I couldn't find it in me to do so. It was difficult being able to finish this book but I was able to pull through. Sort of. Anyways, Amethyst is up ready to be archived in your libraries!
