Chapter 13

"Yer sire will have my head when he finds about this," Raine muttured, adjusting the strap of his armor as they swam through the forest of seaweed carefully as possible so they wouldn't get tangled in it vines.

"That's why you're my right hand and not his," Rubyn growled, feeling the tension tighten the muscles in his shoulders as he saw a peek of purple gems glinting through the vines. As they got closer, they could see the Amythyst Palace spiraling towards the ocean's surface.

Giant corals surrounded the palace, different species of fish darting between its branches, several of them swimming away when a patrol of Amethyst soldiers passed by. Rubyn quickly hid behind the seaweed.

"Just like old times eh?" Raine said with a grin as he pulled a purple vial from his satchel.

Rubyn grinned, plucking it from his companions fingers and taking a swig, the warmth of drink sending goosebumps down his skin to tips of his tailfins.

He had done this before, along with a few very close friends. It was a secret that only a few trustworthy subjects knew about. A specific potion who's recipe remained hidden.

"If it weren't for ye scowl I would think ye one of them," Raine chuckled, his once brown eyes now a dark shade of silver, his hair now in the deepest shade of black.

Rubyn smirked arching a dark brow, "Jealous of me Raine?"

The soldier snorted, "Where we getting the gem?"

Rubyn glanced at the sentries at the palace gates, "We simply swim straight through."

Atlantis scrambled as he snapped the armor back into place and hid the odd design and white lock beneath his red bangs as the doors of Scarlet's chamber's swung open.

Morgan strode in, followed by the king of Ruby and another red haired male with red dreadlocks, the ends encased with gold bands. Just as the new merman entered, his hands reached for the breastplate pulling it over his head and setting it aside on the chair. At the center of his chest was a red stone encased by scarred flesh. it had a light of its own, glowing brightly before fading and glowing again, a heart beat is what Atlantis would describe it. His chest continued to burn, clenching his teeth and seething in pain.

Morgan's brows furrowed, "Atlantis, what is wrong?"

The young man shook his head, "Nothing, just heart burn."

The witch watched him for a few moments before glancing at the male, "Ra, do what must be done."

Ra glanced at his king, his reddish hazel eyes brimming with an emotion that only lovers would know.

"I love you," Ra whispered, pressing his lips against his king's . The king returned the tender gesture, his fingers caressing Ra's cheek.

"I know," the king murmured.

Morgan could feel the pain that throbbed in Ra's chest. To know that the man he had come to love did not return his strong feelings. To know that in the final moment's of his life, he couldn't hold his king's heart.

Without further thought, Ra drifted towards Scarlet's unconscious body, his fingers gripped at the stone inside his chest, his teeth seething in pain as he pulled the gem out with his bare hands, his cry of pain as the skin tore away from the gem. Morgan moved to console the merman but the creature growled at him, "No! Don't get any closer!"

Morgan was held back by a pair of familiar hands that wrapped around his torso. Tears threatened to leave his eyes as he watched the young merman whisper to the stone that glowed and just as the last word left his dying lips, the stone took a life of it's own and floated to Scarlet's unconscious form.

In that moment the king left the room, unable to watch Ra's body dissipate into red liquid, curling and fading away into the red stone that had already attached itself around her neck, forming a rather beautiful necklace.

And just as it clasped around her, Scarlett let out a loud gasp, her body sitting straight up as her greens orbs swirled in a blood red.

Atlantis watched as her head turned, red eyes landed on his, her voice eerily haunting a s she murmured a single word.

"Atlantis."

Lilith's lips curled into a grin as she peered through the glass ball within her chambers. She could see the fear in the golden-eyed prince, the way the gem inside his chest pulsed along with his weak but still beating heart.

She could see his life force slowly dissipating in front of her eyes, most of it feeding into the gem.

Her shoulders began to tremble, laughter bubbling from her lips, "How fitting for a prince," she said, cupping her locks of snakes, each one hissing and caressing her cheeks, "Isn't it wonderful? Almost as if the fates knew of my plan!"

Her eyes slid over towards Scarlett. She could best her easily, a mere woman who tried to take her own life. Purple orbs slid over towards Morgan, the witch's worried gaze now focusing on Atlantis is suffering.

Her lips quirked up, "Oh my dear little witch," she whispered, "I will offer you mercy this time and take the life of your lover right before your eyes before you have to."
