Chapter 9: One by One They Fall
Elsie's POV
"You should have come straight to me!" Madam Pomfrey screeched at Harry, who wasn't as pleased as her.
They were chattering about how Lockhart wouldn't let him go to her, and how he removed his bones instead of healing them. Harry had won but he had broken his arm. Now I know one thing: Lockhart lied about all the things he did and it's tearing me apart. He's so good looking and yet he managed to fool the world into thinking he did those things.
Ron and Hermione were there. No one glanced at my Petrified self. Heck, I think everyone forgot I existed. Lyn, Astrid, and especially Ruby don't come here because then it reminds them of how careless they were (they worded it like that). Madam Pomfrey cursed at Lockhart and was mad at him.
The next day, a weird house elf warned Harry about the Chamber of Secrets. It was oh so boring because as a Petrified person no one can see you except ghosts and strangely enough Draco and his three friends can see me. Then I saw Professor Dumbledore with Professor McGonagall.
"Get Madam Pomfrey," Professor Dumbledore said firmly.
They were all upset about the Chamber of Secrets being open and Harry heard every word. I knew he'd never stop looking up about the Chamber of Secrets. Then I exited the room and sighed. No one to talk to and Malfoy and his friends are finishing homework.
"I know, it gets a bit boring staying Petrified."
The girl had shoulder length brunette hair with pretty blue eyes. Her delicate pink lips were pulled into a smile and she was very pretty. She also had a light blue dress with dark cerulean blue flats.
"Who are you?" I asked, curious of the random girl that popped out of nowhere.
"My name is Rosalinda Ayla Gaunt. Or I should say Riddle because my mum told me that when I was 5. She died all of a sudden from a heart attack."
"But Tom Riddle was supposed to leave Merope right as soon as the potion ran out."
"May I ask the reasoning behind this?"
"Um, I just get these weird visions when I sleep, so I assume they're true things that happen."
"You are a Seer. Seers are very rare these days."
"That means you're Voldemort's younger sister though."
Rosalinda smiled softly and said, "I think that if you touch me then you'll understand quite enough."
And so I held her hand and got sucked into a white light.
—----------------------------------------------------------------
I glance at my surroundings. I was in a small shack with a pale girl with black hair. She had black hair that was unkempt and overall she looked like she had been through a lot. Then I saw a man with what seemed to be her brother beat her. Everyday it was a routine. I felt sorry for her.
I also saw her eye a really handsome guy. She endured this until her brother and dad got sent to Azkaban, which is apparently wizard prison. The girl had fled and bought a love potion to make the handsome guy fall in love with her. And so when she stopped giving the love potions and was pregnant, he left her and she was devastated.
Finally she gave birth to a baby and she whispered, "I hope he is as handsome as his father." Looks like she left him on the porch of a muggle orphanage and she left a note there. The girl then staggered away and then collapsed. Suddenly, the same guy came on his horse and hurried her over to his house.
It was confusing but he had saved the girl with his medicine skills I never knew he had. The girl opened her eyes and croaked, "I'm alive?"
"Yeah, I did some quick thinking. What were you thinking? Dying when you had magic to cure yourself. And your name is Merope right?"
She nodded with tears brimming her eyes. "I really loved you. I am not that attractive but I still wanted to be with you. You were all I ever wanted, Tom."
"And because I left you I realized how terrible I've been. I'd love to spend the rest of my life with you and your kind heart."
And so they spent their days together and eventually Merope got pregnant again. This time they had a girl and Tom was around to suggest Rosalind as her first name. But he suddenly left when Rosalind was 3 years old. Now when she was 5 years old, Merope was playing with 5 year old Rosalind. Suddenly she collapsed and Rosalind cried out, "Mummy!"
"Dear, it's all right. Mummy is going to be alright. Just find Tom Marvolo Riddle, your older brother."
"Mummy, we should go see someone about this!"
But then Merope died as fast as she fell. Muggles had thought it was a heart attack, which led to Rosalind believing the same. Rosalind was put under the care of Morfin Gaunt. She lived a good life and Morfin had apparently gone good as soon as he came out of Azkaban.
Rosalind had a good life and eventually she went to Hogwarts. She got sorted into Slytherin and sat next to a boy who looked quite handsome.
"Say, you look a lot like me," the boy said to her.
"I could say the same. The name's Rosalind. I'm a half -blood."
"I'm Tom. I'm also half-blood."
And so they became friends and two years later they became best friends. But then, a Muggle was killed in the bathroom. Everyone was freaked out about it. Hagrid ended up being blamed, which made Rosalind upset because she was good friends with him. Rosalind looked around for clues, and then found out that it was a Basilisk. She got excited and went over to Tom.
"Tom, I found out what actually happened. It was a Basilisk that killed the Muggle! We need to tell the headmaster," she said, bouncing around.
"Oh, I know what happened alright."
She stopped bouncing around. Everything caught up to her as she realized the hard truth. "Tom, but why?" she asked, frowning a bit.
"Well, let's just say that mudbloods are what I hate. My mudblood dad left my mum to die. She will be avenged. Join me, Rose. We can punish those mudbloods."
"Tom, the world isn't perfect but it's beautiful in it's imperfection. You've got to understand that it's not right to punish every Muggle on the Earth. Please Tom, this isn't something you should be doing."
His face turned into a smirk. This was no longer the happy, charming, and kind Tom that Rosalind knew. "Rose, you know way too much so I'll do you a favor. I'll end your life and you can die happily."
And so she felt the Basilisk there but she refused to look it in the eyes. Instead she looked at it's bright yellow eyes through her mirror and as she turned to stone her tears ran down her face.
—----------------------------------------------------------------
I glanced at Rosalind as she remembered all the memories. "My own brother doesn't recognize me and I don't recognize him anymore. His soul turned hateful and resentful. Tom can't see the world's blessings now," she said softly, "After the Basilisk Petrified me, he kept my Petrified body in the Chamber of Secrets."
"I promise you that we will revive you. You don't deserve to be Petrified," I say with all the bravery I could bring.
"Thank you, I didn't get your name."
"I'm Elspeth Twelvetrees but you can call me Elsie."
Meanwhile
Astrid's POV
"Now, Professor Dumbledore has granted me permission to start this little Duelling Club, to train you all up in case you ever need to defend yourselves as I myself have done on countless occasions – for full details, see my published works."
Why couldn't my dad just assign someone who was better experienced than a fool who can't even fight off a bloody werewolf? "Let me introduce my assistant Professor Snape. He tells me he knows a tiny little bit about duelling himself and has sportingly agreed to help me with a short demonstration before we begin. Now, I don't want any of you youngsters to worry – you'll still have your Potions master when I'm through with him, never fear!"
"I won't because I'm pretty sure Professor Snape will finish off Lockhart for us," Ruby whispered, smirking.
We snickered as Lockhart only glared at us while Professor Snape only smirked with encouragement. They held their wands and were in position. "One – two – three –"
Professor Snape beat him to it when Lockhart demonstrated and said, "Expelliarmus!"
"Is he not ok? Did he potentially die?" Ruby asked, looking hopeful.
When Lockhart got back up, Ruby groaned. "I jinxed it!"
"Well, there you have it! That was a Disarming Charm – as you see, I've lost my wand – ah, thank you, Miss Brown. Yes, an excellent idea to show them that, Professor Snape, but if you don't mind my saying so, it was very obvious what you were about to do. If I had wanted to stop you it would have been only too easy. However, I felt it would be instructive to let them see."
That was Ruby's last straw. "He did better than your mum could!" she snarled, making all the Lockhart fans gasp and all the haters cheer.
Professor Snape, glaring murderously at Lockhart, said, "Thank you for standing up to me, Miss Black. It's very admirable, however I can deal with a lost cause like him."
Ruby smirked and was satisfied with Professor Snape's answer. We paired up and practiced disarming. Harry and Draco were being uncontrollable, which ended up being the only thing that was interesting so far. Then Lockhart used Malfoy and Harry as an example.
Turns out that Malfoy summoned a snake. Then we all went away from it and Harry hissed. It was something undecipherable. The snake went away. "Did you hear that? Harry called off the snake and it worked!"
"All I heard was hissing. Sounded like he was egging the snake on," I say, frowning a bit.
"I think Ruby is a Parseltongue," Lyn said, musing at Ruby.
"So cool! I can understand snakes!"
"Best to keep it hidden though. Don't want anyone getting suspicious of you."
And so it was kept hushed up. Though some time later Nick, the Gryffindor ghost, and Justin, a Hufflepuff, were Petrified. Something inside of me thought it was something that was not human. As I looked in my mirror, I saw a pair of yellow eyes and lost all my senses.
