Chapter 6: Surprise!

"Too bad, we beat you here first," I said, sticking out my tongue.

"Well you girls were obviously going to help Harry Potter with finding that stone. No matter, I'll just kill you now."

I stood in front of everyone and decided to be the first to die since we couldn't escape. "Avada Kedavra!" Quirrell shouted, aiming right for my chest.

I squeezed my eyes shut and waited to be drifted off to Heaven. When the spell reached me, it didn't kill me like it was supposed to. All it did was send a tingle down my body. I open my eyes and see that I'm alive.

"Looks like your pathetic spell can't kill me," I said ever so sweetly.

"No! Avada Kedavra! Avada Kedavra! AVADA KEDAVRA!"

With every attempt, he failed and all I felt was that tingle. I start smirking at him and Astrid silently communicates with the mirror (I don't know how). When she gives the thumbs up, we hold each other's hands and Elsie points her wand at us and herself and says, "Lanuae."

And so we teleported to Madam Pomfrey and that happened to be where Dumbledore was with Professor McGonagall. For some reason I was tired so all I could say was, "Quirrell. Trying to get stone. Keep safe."

It all went black and when I woke up my friends were around too. "Did we do it?" I asked weakly.

"Yes, my dad took the stone from your pocket. Harry is here also but he hasn't awakened yet," Astrid said weakly.

Then Dumbledore came in and he said, "Miraculous thing you girls did. You managed to fool Harry into thinking that he had the Sorcerer's Stone and kept the real one safe. It certainly fooled Quirrell too. What you girls did was something that took bravery, even Elsie had the courage to come too. This all will be acknowledged to Harry."

I thought about how nice it would be to have fame and glory. Everyone talking about me and asking for autographs. But something within me told me that it was Harry's story to be told. All she did was keep the stone safe and find it before Harry.

"Professor Dumbledore, you can just make Harry think that he had the real one. It's not right to take his glory away. He was the one that fought Quirrell and not us. Harry Potter deserves to be known," I said as firmly as I can.

"So you would rather that Harry gets the attention. May I know why?" Dumbledore said with a twinkle in his eyes.

"I think that what we did does deserve attention, but only if we had actually stayed to fight him. We helped him and so it doesn't need to be brought to their attention. All we are to them are regular Hogwarts students. To them, Harry is the bigger picture. Moreover, people have been hating him so he deserves to be treated with respect by everyone."

"Very well, though I will at most let him know of the group that helped him."

"Then you can call us R.A.G.E."

"Fifty points to all your houses."

And so I sank back into sleep and the world turned black.

—----------------------------------------------------------------

I woke up and then suddenly I remembered everything that happened.

—----------------------------------------------------------------

I had drunk the potion and was ready for Snape. What I didn't expect was that Professor Quirrell was there with his turban.

"You!" I gasped.

"Me," he stated calmly, "I wondered whether I'd be meeting you here, Potter."

"But I thought," I said, stunned, "Snape-"

"Severus? Yes, Severus does seem the type, doesn't he? So useful to have him swooping around like an overgrown bat. Next to him, who would suspect p-p-poor, st-stuttering P-Profesor Quirrell?" His voice was not the usual trembling voice. It was cold, sharp, and on the point.

"But Snape tried to kill me!" I said, trying to prove myself wrong.

"No, no, no. I tried killing you. Your friend Miss Granger accidentally knocked me over as she rushed to set fire to Snape at that Quidditch match. She broke my eye contact with you. Another few seconds and I'd have got you off that broom. I'd have managed it before then if Snape hadn't been muttering a countercurse, trying to save you."

"Ruby and her friends were next to him too though."

"Oh yeah, those nuisances. They were the only students that believed he was a saint. Those girls had been eavesdropping on one of the many conversations me and Snape had. I didn't think they would go all out though. From the first day that Ruby met me, she hadn't even tried to get close to me. I knew she suspected so then she brought her friends along on this heartwarming adventure."

"So Snape was trying to save me?"

"Yes, with the help of that wretched Black. She knew I was doing it so she asked Snape to do the countercurse. That girl Black cared enough about you to even try telling you about how I was the bad guy and not Snape. But Snape refereed to make sure you were safe despite his own daughter and his favorite students. He made himself unpopular, especially among the staff. I'll kill you tonight."

With the snap of his fingers, ropes were wrapped all over me. It hurt a bit since it was tight. "You're too nosy to live, Potter. But then again those girls struck again and saw me try to look at what guarded the stone."

"You let the troll in?"

"Certainly, I have a special gift with trolls. You must have seen what I did to the one in the chamber back there?

Unfortunately, while everyone else was running around looking for it, Snape, who already suspected me, went straight to the third floor to head me off. Those girls followed Snape secretly, thinking he was going to fight off the troll, and found out that I had been in the forbidden room. Not only did my troll fail to beat you to death, the three-headed dog was tamed by none other than Dumbledore's daughter so it couldn't even bite Snape's leg off properly. Now, wait quietly, Potter. I need to examine this interesting mirror."

It was the Mirror of Erised. The same mirror I saw my parents in. As Quirrell mumbled to himself, I remembered how I had hurt Ruby after everything she did for me. All that I had been treated with I took for granted. I made a silent promise to apologize to her. Now all I needed to do was keep Quirrell talking.

"I saw you and Snape in the forest," I blurted out at random.

"Yes, he was on to me by that time, trying to find out how far I'd got. He suspected me all along. Tried to frighten me. Not like he could, when I had Voldemort by my side. I frightened him by telling my thoughts of killing his prized students and his daughter."

After he angrily muttered to himself about the mirror, I said, "But Snape always seemed to hate me so much."

"Oh he does. Heavens, yes. He was at Hogwarts with your father, did you know? Even Ruby's father was there. Both Ruby's father and your father were best friends. Snape and Potter loathed each other, but he never wanted you dead."

"Wait, then why doesn't he hate Ruby?" I asked, confused because Snape treated Ruby so well that you would've thought that she was his daughter.

"Well, somehow Ms. Black impressed him and he was friends with her mum."

—----------------------------------------------------------------

I remembered how Ruby and her friends were involved. Dumbledore came over to me and said with a smile, "Good afternoon, Harry."

At first I panicked and told about the stone but Dumbledore managed to calm me down. Besides me was a lot of candy.

"Tokens from your friends and admirers. What happened between you and Quirrell is a complete secret, so naturally the whole school knows. I believe your friends Misters Fred and George were responsible for trying to send you a toilet seat. No doubt they thought it would amuse you. Madam Pomfrey, however, felt it might not be very hygienic and confiscated it. Ruby more importantly asked me to send this. No doubt she was embarrassed to give it in person."

He put a big heart container beside all the sweets and after asking about the stone I had gotten my answer. Dumbledore told his side of the story and told about how Nicolas Flamel and his wife were going to die. He also told me about my mum's protection. Never once did he mention Ruby or her friends.

"Though one more thing. There is a mysterious group of people called R.A.G.E that helped you. They were the ones that helped you without knowing."

I then decided that Quirrell was bluffing about Ruby and I remembered I still had to say sorry.

—----------------------------------------------------------------

It didn't take long for me and my friends to get out and about. I asked Dumbledore if he could send my get-well present, and finally I had the courage to talk to him about our fight. I walked into where Harry was and it was silent for sometime.

"It's good to see that you are alive," I said awkwardly.

"I'm sorry for not listening to you. And I had no right to say those awful things to you about your dad," Harry said, smiling a bit.

"And I'm sorry that you are a clueless git."

I laughed at my own line and he just shook his head. "And thank you for everything you did to keep me away from Dudley."

"Hey no problem, Dudsters is big but he has no spine of his own."

And so with that he said, "And thanks for all the random scraps that have something written down."

"Each day you take one scrap and it'll have some advice or something. Only one per day though."

I left and said goodbye and went out to the lake. I climbed the tree and saw the muggle part of London. I held out my palm and closed it into a fist. With my courage, I could probably take on the world.

"Hey Ruby," a random voice said.

It was a guy with brown hair and very cute chocolate brown eyes. "So you're going to admit that you sent me that lovely present, Cedric Diggory?"

He laughed and said, "Yes, it was an appreciation gift. I wanted you to feel welcome here in Hufflepuff even though you were supposed to be in Gryffindor."

"Well now you're my friend since you're very nice."

"And with that, I also have something for you."

I jumped off and he handed me a box that was wrapped. I tore the wrapping and opened the box to see an album. I flipped to a random page and saw it was pictures of my dad.

"Needed some help from Hagrid to get the photos but I thought it would help about your dad."

"Diggy, you're so kind!" And I tackled him with a hug and he hugged back. "Now let's head over to the feast."

And so Slytherin was supposed to win. None of the other students were happy but me, Lyn, and Astrid cheered for Elsie, who flashed a shy smile. Dumbledore then dished out some last minute points (even for Longbottom).

"And now there are four girls in this school who did the right thing. Lyn is the second top student in this school so twenty five points to Ravenclaw."

Snape was so happy and he clapped the loudest out of everyone. "That's my daughter! She is my brilliant daughter!" Snape shouted, ignoring all the stares of his House members.

"And there is my very own daughter Astrid Bridget Dumbledore. She has always followed the rules and made sure that people followed the rules. Astrid was even kind to everyone. Fifty five points to Gryffindor."

Astrid went as red as her hair as everyone applauded her. "Now there is one Slytherin I'd like to point out. Elspeth Twelvetrees is nothing like her housemates. Always kind, respectful, but could be a bit shy at times; however, in the time of need she stood up and raised her voice. That is an action that deserves recognition. Thirty points to Slytherin."

We all cheered loudly as Elsie smiled shyly. All the Slytherins were giving her angry glares.

"And finally there is one more girl. She is not at all like any Hufflepuff ever sorted. Brave yet kind, she learned quite some things from being in Hufflepuff. This girl defied the rules and might as well have been defying gravity. Ruby Black has earned her house forty points."

And so we had been hailed as heroes. We parted ways with Astrid and on the Hogwarts train we talked, played Wizard chess (and tried playing regular chess), and just had fun. When we came home then my mum said, "I suppose you got into something again."

"I discreetly helped Harry Potter defeat a bad guy," I said, shrugging as my mum went pale.

"Oh lord, you are your father," Mum said with a sigh.

I introduced her to my friends and she met with Professor Snape, who gushed about how great I was, and talked to Elsie's dad. I looked over and saw the mad Dursleys. Harry saw me and smiled. I smiled back with a wave. I had done what I wanted and had excellent friends to help me through everything.
