Hard-Hearted Hannah
Bella soon arrived at the church with Sookie and Hugo and wanted to puke. Steve Newlin's wife came out to greet them.
"Hi, there. I just happened to be looking out the window as you were driving up, and I thought I'd come on out and greet you myself. I'm Sarah Newlin. And you all are?" She said.
"Hi. Holly Simpson. I cannot believe I'm meeting you in person. You are cute as a button." Sookie said.
"Thank you, Holly. And you're like a cool breeze on a hot summer day. " Sarah said.
"Quite." Sookie said.
"And you two are?" Sarah said.
"I'm..." Hugo said but Sookie cut him off.
"Silly me. My sister Lilly and this is Rufus Dobson, my fiancé, I love saying that word. In fact, sometimes I love it so much, I don't even want to get married, just so I can keep on calling him. But we're going to. Get married, that is. Which is why we're looking for a church." She said.
"Well, excellence. And I'm pleased to meet you, Lilly, Rufus." Sarah said.
"It's an honor." Hugo said.
"Pleasure." Bella said.
"The honor's mine. Now, how about you all follow me in and we'll see if Steve is available. I'm sure he'd love to meet you three." Sarah said.
"For real? Reverend Newlin himself? Oh, that would be just super." Sookie said.
"Well, come on." Sarah said and started to lead the way.
"Well, the funny thing is, Rufus and I actually met in church. But we both left, like, a month later when we realized that our pastor was... a little iffy." Sookie said.
"He was a homosexual," Steve guessed.
"We don't know that. He might have been, but what became all too clear was that... he was a sympathizer." Sookie said.
Steve and Sarah sighed and shook their heads at the same time. "See, that really ticks me off, I mean how can you claim to be a God-loving person and then love something that God detests?" Steve asked.
"It's upsetting," Sookie said with fake outrage.
"It is. It is upsetting, but that's why my fiancée and I are here. We wanna make this our new home." Hugo agreed.
"We are thrilled that you've chosen us," Sarah told him with a voice so high it couldn't have possibly been an honest answer.
'Wonder how that platform's coming. I can't wait to bring that vampire up from the basement and watch the sun do him the justice that 2000 years of living couldn't.' Steve thought.
"It'll be amazing to finally be amongst like-minded people, I don't care what anyone says about vampires being able to control themselves. I know better. I know that every single one of them is a vicious, bloodthirsty killer." Sookie said.
"Yes. I don't understand why they are here in the first place. They are, in effect, the beasts described in Revelations." Bella said, referring to the Bible. She got approved looks from Steve and Sarah, and she saw Sookie and Hugo look shocked by her knowledge.
"That is so true." Sarah said.
"Well, I don't think we should dwell on the evil in this world. Let's go on a tour and y'all can see where you'll be getting married." Steve said and stood, indicating for them to follow suit.
They were almost at the end of the tour. They had seen the chapel and the prayer rooms, that were dotted everywhere. All that was left was the main part of the church.
"Be careful." Steve said.
"Why?" Hugo asked.
"Sometimes when we open these doors, so much love comes flowing out that it'll knock you down if you're not ready for it." Steve said.
"Well, we'll be sure to brace ourselves." Sookie said.
Then he opened the doors. Even for a church it was beautiful. The Sun was shining through the window's by the tabernacle and the altar. The pew's were perfectly polished.
"Oh, wow!" Bella said, mesmerised by the gorgeous room.
"I know! I just love it in here." Sarah answered. "The way it glows like it does. Particularly in the late afternoon."
"Oh! It is inspiring. Isn't it?" Steve asked.
"It is beautiful." Bella said still gazing around.
"Yes, sirree. This is where we're getting married. I can't wait to see you walk down that aisle." Hugo said.
"Me neither." Sookie said.
"Yes it will be a magnificant sight, Holly!" Bella said.
"Have any of you ever been to a lock-in?" he asked suddenly.
"A lock-in?" Sookie repeated, confused as to what it was.
'Of course they haven't. They're no Christians.' Steve thought.
"Oh, yeah, it's loads of fun," he said. "Everybody brings their sleeping bags and we eat, and have games, Bible readings..."
'Come on, Steve. Don't bring the girls into this. They're probably so scared. They don't wanna be doing this. Those vampires made them do it.' Sarah thought.
'They say they can hear me. I wonder if those fang-loving freakazoids can hear me right now. They sure don't look normal.' Steve thought, with a big smile on his face.
"That lock-in does sound like fun. Rufus, we gotta go get our sleeping bags." Sookie swallowed.
"But honey, the tour's not even over yet," Hugo looked at her.
"I know, but I think we should really go now so we can get back in time for the lock down." Sookie rushed out her words.
"Lock in," Bella corrected her.
"There'll be plenty of time to get ready. The lock-in is not until tomorrow night," Steve told them.
"You wanted to see me?" a big and tall bald man wearing a Fellowship of the Sun sweatshirt asked as he showed up behind Steve.
"Oh, good. Holly, Lily, Rufus, I'd like you to meet an aide of mine. This is Gabe." Steve said.
"Pleased to meet you," the man said with a smile that was supposed to be friendly, but there was nothing friendly about this man, the sisters just knew it.
'Nice, very nice. She's got just the perfect amount of titties showing.' Gabe thought as he looked at Bella.
"Gabe here is going to be joining us for the rest of the tour." Steve said.
'This isn't a good idea, come on Steve, let them go.' Sarah thought, her smile vanishing from her face.
"Now, I'd like to take y'all to see a very special part of the church," Steve said. "Come on."
Bella and Sookie looked at each other, knowing it was a bad idea, but also knowing they didn't have another option. They followed them back to the hall and turned left, towards a narrow hallway.
"My father's tomb is on the lower level."
"Honey, are you sure?" Sarah asked, her nervousness and doubt obvious in her trembling voice.
"Absolutely, darling!"
"Steve, I just don't see why we need to take them down there."
"You can literally feel the presence of his spirit," the reverend said as he stopped in front of the basement door.
"It's okay, we don't need to see it," Sookie told him.
"It's the rock our church was built on," Steve insisted. "Much like St. Peter's tomb in the Catholic Church only without being polluted by evil. Did you know there was actually a vampire pope back in the Middle Ages?" he said as he rolled his eyes at such a heresy.
He turned around to open the locked door. A set of stairs leading to the basement was waiting for them behind it. A gasp escaped Sookie's lips, Bella's heart tightened inside her chest.
"Rufus," Sookie called for help.
"What's the matter?" Steve asked.
"It's no big deal. It's just she's a tiny bit claustrophobic. We both are actually." Hugo said.
"Well, at least take a quick look. That way, you can say you saw the whole church." Steve said.
"Steve." Sarah said as if trying to get through to her husband.
"It's alright, Sarah. This is something they need to see." Steve said.
"But we've already decided that we're getting married here. So how about we go back to our apartment, look at a calendar and call you to set the date." Sookie said backing away.
"No. Gabe." Steve said grabbing Sookie.
Gabe had grabbed Bella and Hugo roughly. "Let us go!" she ordered Steve, which he would have done if it weren't for Gabe who then punched her in the face, causing both her and Sarah to scream.
"Pretty sure the banger's on V the fucking cunt." Steve said.
"Steve!" Sarah gasped as she heard him swear.
"I'm sorry." Sarah said.
"Let me go." Sookie said as Bella blacked out.
