The Wedding

The Wedding

Xavier had insisted that I at least have a white dress.  I laughed and told him the ship had totally sailed on white, I was far from virginal.  We landed in Vegas and Xavier took me shopping.

“Isn’t it bad luck for you to see the dress, since you’re the one being superstitious.” I teased.

Xavier shrugged.  “I’m not letting you wander around the Vegas Strip alone.  I’ve lost you twice now, it’s never happening again.”

I kissed him then.  “It won’t happen again.  Come on!”

We spent the day enjoying Vegas, shopping, incredible food, and I was pretty proud that I won a few thousand dollars at the Black Jack table.

“How’d you get so good at this?” Xavier whispered.

“Time were tough when I was taking care of Mom.  I needed my money to stretch, there are gambling boats that leave from Cape Canaveral.  I got really good at counting cards.”

“Card counting is illegal.”

I shook my head.  “Not illegal, just highly frowned upon.  It’s not illegal for me to have a code to remember which cards have been played and the odds that I’ll win big on my next hand.  I wiggled my eyebrows at him.  “But if the casino catches you they’ll throw you out in a heartbeat.  That’s why I stopped here.”

“And if you watched closely, I lost about five hundred dollars first.” I stuck my tongue at him.  “No, let’s get our room so I can get changed and we can get married.”

Xavier insisted upon a suite in the Bellagio.  I changed into a simple white, chiffon dress.  It had a sweetheart neckline and went to just below my knee.  Cinched around the bust was a thick black satin ribbon that tied in a bow in the back.  I also had black evening gloves and black strappy sandals.  I pulled most of my hair up into a bun and curled a few tendrils to frame my face.  I’d also picked up a few small white flowers to pin in my hair.  I did simple make-up, just enough to make my eyes pop and a red lipstick that contrasted perfectly with my skin tone.

When I came downstairs Xavier just stared.

“Do I look okay?”

Xavier shook his head a smile on his face.  “Okay is not the word I would use for you.  Something more like magnificent, beautiful, enchanting, these suit you far better.  Come on, I want to make you my wife.” We walked hand in hand to the chapel where an Elvis impersonator was marrying people.  There were three couples ahead of us.  Xavier and I sat next to each other grinning like mad.  He was wearing a charcoal grey suit.  He looked devilishly handsome.  My head was resting on his shoulder when we were called up.

The ceremony was quick and before I knew it I was kissing my husband and I was Mrs. Xavier Martin Lewis.  Because Xavier can’t do anything half assed, by the time we got back to our hotel room, the bed was decorated in rose petals, a bottle of wine was chilling and dinner arrived about five minutes after we got back.  We enjoyed one another properly as husband and wife and it was the happiest night of my life so far.
