Chapter 18
*Dileep Pov*
"Just give me a call when you reach the house." I said before hanging up after she said she will be a little late to reach here.
"You are here and I am searching for you everywhere." I heard Aahil Bhai's voice and turned to see him rushing near to me.
"What happened?" I asked him frowning.
"Tajwar Bhai's college friends are here." He replied and I immediately panicked.
"Who invited them?" I asked him, frowning and looked around to see Mridula welcoming them.
"Why does she try to make everything good?" Aahil grumbled and this time I accept with him.
"Let us stop them before they could meet Bhai." I suggested and before we could reach near them, they already saw Bhai and are even talking to him.
"He seems to be fine about this." Aahil said in a surprised tone.
"He seems to be happy about this too." I added, and we both sighed in relief to see everything is fine.
"Aahil! We need to talk." We heard Nipuna saying while reaching near to us.
"I have some special people to meet." Saying this Aahil Bhai walked away while I stood awkwardly not knowing what to say to her.
"I just can't believe you three brothers." She commented and walked the way Aahil Bhai left.
What did I do? I thought, frowning and checked the mobile to see a missed call from Amrin. When I nearly rushed to the door, I saw Amrin posing with the calm before the media and walked inside herself.
"Hey!" She said smiling with no nervousness in her features.
"Hi! I didn't see your call." I said, holding her hand and pulled her to me.
"It is ok! I kind of got used to them with these small shows on the weekends too." She said smiling and then we both walked inside to see Mom and Dad already walking down the stairs holding their hands with everyone clapping for them.
"They look like a perfect couple." She whispered from beside me.
"Everything is not as it seems to look." I retorted before I could stop myself.
"I know! I would have never believed those words, but I do believe them now." She said, surprising me and I turned to stare at her normal face.
"Are you ok?" I asked her frowning.
"Of course! Why are you asking me that?" She asked back, smiling and I just shook my head.
"Happy anniversary Sir and Madam." She politely wished them when they walked near to us.
"Thank you!" Dad replied, but Mom just nodded, making me frown at her.
"Few people want to meet you, Dileep." Mom said and gestured with her hands towards a group whom I know so well.
"I do not want to meet any prospective brides, Mom." I said in a stern expression and walked away holding Amrin's hand.
"You shouldn't have said that, Dileep. She is your Mom! Now go and apologize and also meet the people she wishes for." Amrin said, stopping me before I take her to the refreshment table.
"What?" I asked her frowning.
"It is their day and you need to do what they ask you to." She replied, smiling and pushed me a little before walking herself near to the table.
"I am sorry, Mom!" I said, walking near to her still frowning at Amrin's suggestion.
"You have been making it a habit. I am not going to make you to meet anyone. I will go and meet my friends." She said walking away, leaving me alone with Dad.
"We can never understand these women." Dad said, shaking his head and we both walked near to our business clients.
"Dileep!" I heard Aahil Bhai and turned to see him walking near to me with speed.
"What happened? Is Tajwar Bhai fine?" I asked him frowning.
"It is not about him. Mom just took Amrin to the side to have a word with her." He replied and the next moment we started walking near to the place with Dad following us to control the situation.
"What is it, Madam? What do you want to talk about?" We heard Amrin's voice, by the time we reached near to the couch.
"Look, Amrin, I will come straight to the point. I do not like any of his relations and feel they are nothing but scandalous. I want to get him married soon, and it is not being possible because of you." Mom said in a simple tone.
"Actually, I am not the reason, Madam. Get him to say that I can leave, and I will." Amrin said, shrugging making me stop in my track and also stop my mouth from saying anything.
"Do not try to be sarcastic with me. Until there is a relation, he will not meet any possible brides. And he doesn't even want to so you need to leave." Mom said in a strict tone this time.
"I will just tell you what, Madam. Why don't I tell you what would be his interests in the girls he may want to marry, and you put that perfect girl before him, with which he will leave me and marry the girl?" Amrin suggested, and I sucked in breath while Aahil stopped himself from coughing.
"I already told you to not be sarcastic with me." Mom's voice raised, but due to music, no one heard her.
"She should have short hair, but not long hair. She should be short but not tall. She should never get nervous before meeting any person and should never bite her nails. She should be in a position to carry herself and be able to raise your status, but not get it down. And definitely you should like her for sure whether he likes her or not. On top of that she should be belonging to the same status as yours. This is the perfect list as far as I can remember." She finished it in one breath, and my breath stuck in my throat.
"And one more thing is that maybe you don't like me for the way I am related to your son which is understandable, but I am still a human." She added standing up and walked away.
"She is my favorite!" I heard Aahil from beside me.
Mom stood up and turned with a frown on her face and met the stares of the three of us. I took a deep breath and said, "I have some work."
I walked in the opposite direction to where she went and to my luck, there are stairs by climbing, which I went inside my room and closed the door.
After a few minutes, I called her and said, "Can you leave for the flat by yourself?"
"Sure, Dileep! You need not even ask me." She replied and I hung up closing my eyes.
*Amrin Pov*
I stared at the phone for a few seconds and then put it back into my bag before glancing at the sky standing on the balcony.
I don't know at which side of the house I am standing, but I just walked after getting outside whatever words I felt in front of his Mom with the jealousy and pain that he will never be mine.
Maybe I said so much to her, and Dileep will get angry at me? I thought and frowned before slapping my head.
I should have put a break in my mouth before saying all those things to her and remember that I have no right to. I shook my head and stilled when I heard footsteps from behind me.
"So, you are the famous Amrin. The mistress of the youngest son." I heard a female voice and turned to see that it is Nipuna, who is rubbing her eyes.
"And you are the famous pregnant bride." I retorted, but cursed myself inside for the words that I got out of hearing the word mistress from her.
"Not bad! You know how to stand up even though in the little amount." She said smiling before standing beside me staring at the sky, and I too turned to following her suit.
"You know what you should feel lucky that you are not more related to any of the brothers in this house." She commented, and I frowned at her words.
"I am not trying to get married to him so you can stop the warnings which were sent through your Mother-In-Law." I said after a few minutes.
"You think I am on her side?" She asked, smirking and shook her head.
After standing for a few minutes in silence, we both heard some footsteps and turned to see Mridula stepping onto the balcony who is breathing heavily.
"Are you ok?" I asked her frowning and she suddenly fell on her knees releasing a anguish sob.
We both rushed near her in shock and held her shoulder while she continued to sob holding our hands. I glanced at Nipuna who has the same shock expression like mine.
"What happened, Mridula?" Nipuna asked her and Mridula slowly moved back to stare at us.
"He..." she started saying, but tightened her lips crying silently.
"Let us take you to your room." Nipuna said and we slowly helped her to stand up.
"No!" she said, shaking her head and covered her face.
"Maybe it is better for her to stay away from him." Nipuna mumbled, and I frowned but got an idea.
"She can come with me and stay at the flat if she wishes to." I said still seeing the woman before me sobbing, which is breaking our hearts.
"Perfect! Let's go then before anyone can see us." Nipuna said and dragged us towards the back door, dodging everyone's stares while I held Mridula before she can fall down.
"Where are you all going?" We heard a familiar voice and turned to see Dileep's Mom.
"We are going to my flat." I replied, looking at her, hoping she will not stop us.
"She needs it." Nipuna added and just walked away, dragging us without hearing any reply from her.
"I will call the driver." I said on the way, and by the time we reached near to the entrance, we saw the car.
We three got inside it, or we got Mridula inside it before ourselves and asked the driver to drive. After reaching the flat, I got them inside my room and made Mridula lie on it before walking outside to bring some water for them.
"Here!" I said, giving them a glass of water, and they drank it before sitting in silence.
"Will you guys want to change?" I asked and added, "I have the clothes which I didn't wear."
"Why don't you change and come?" Nipuna asked Mridula to which she nodded and stood up while I went inside to bring the clothes.
"I will cook something." I said, walking near the door.
"Let her sleep for now after changing, and she will eat when she wakes up." Nipuna said, but I still went to cook food remembering that Nipuna is pregnant and shouldn't skip the meals.
By the time, I returned I saw Nipuna covering Mridula with the blanket, and I asked her to sleep on the other side as I have some other work when she said she doesn't want to have anything right now.
I stared at the plan before me and thought that I should have some more paintings to do for the exhibition or there will be empty places. I leaned back, rubbing my neck only to see Nipuna entering the living room.
"I am hungry! I hope I am not troubling you." She said with a small smile.
"Not at all!" I said, getting up and warmed the food before serving her and myself.
"Will she be fine?" I asked her remembering the tear-streaked face.
"She will! Thanks for allowing us to stay here. She really needs this small getaway." She replied and I slowly nodded.
"Are you not going to ask about what happened to her?" She asked when I took the plates away.
"I am an outsider!" I pointed out simply before returning near her with a glass of milk.
"I don't want to drink that." She said shaking her head.
"It will be good for you." I said, pushing it before her.
"You are just like Mridula. And as per your comment trust me, you are not an outsider as you are an everyday topic." She said, shaking her head, and I smiled at her.
"Anyway, I cannot say what happened because I too don't know. She never says anything to any of us about her life." She added and I slowly nodded.
"Why don't you stay for a few days?" I suggested to which she chuckled.
"She will not stay no matter what. By tomorrow morning, she will rush me to reach the house so that she can do the work there like everyday." She replied, and I nodded believing her words.
I gazed at her and then remembered her rubbing her eyes while entering the balcony. Was she also crying at that time? I can hear Mridula's pained sobs even now. Maybe I am lucky to not be related to that house like Nipuna said.
