Before I begin just a special shoutout to my first voter and engaged reader @abdulmalik25 .
Riveria's POV
I went to my locker and entered the combination, 1530. I placed my books in chronological order and put my necessary books in my school bags.
I closed my locker and suddenly thought about what I learnt three years ago...I wasn't able to forget it anyway.
I learnt of the ubiquitous existence of the Royal Council. It's members only include selected elites and high ranking members of each kingdom.
Common realm dwellers commonly know them as the UC, United Countries.
I uncharacteristically dragged my feet to the classroom.
There are three different realms that exist in this world in each Kingdom.
• The Royal Realm
•The Noble Realm
•The Common Realm
There are ethereal but effective barriers present that separate our worlds.
As the names suggest, Royals like myself live in the Royal realm, Nobles, like politicians and celebrities, live in the Noble realm and of course, commoners... normal people live in the Common realm.
I politely wave and mumble greetings to everyone that greets me in the hallway. I wonder where Emeliene is right now....
Commoners are practically left in the dark about almost everything. I mean they are aware of the separation of our realms but there many hidden truth about us royals that they don't know.
I entered the classroom and sat at the back and took out my books and waited for the Miss Faye's arrival.
I looked out the window and continued my chain of thoughts.
In this world hierarchy is not forgotten. People are born with ranks. Your rank is predetermined and etched into your soul before your birth - hell before your conception.
The ranks are:
•Alpha
•Beta
•Gamma
•Delta
•Elipson
•Ioita
•Omega
From highest to lowest.
Most Commoners are omegas and iotas and noble power differs from Gamma, delta and eplison. Royals are dominantly Alphas but you do find others that are born as betas.
Miss Faye finally arrives and greets the class with her usual enthusiastic and cheery tone.
"Take out your laptop and open up the PDF I sent you yesterday and go to page 33. Read the poem by John Khumalo, focus on the 4th verse's line 16. Notice how the author using..."
By now I am consumed by my thoughts...
Okay so you are born with your rank but it's locked and cannot be accessed until a sharman unlocks it and reveals your aura.
Only certain ranked sharman can unlock and read a person's rank, I love the irony of this....only Omega ranking sharman can unlock a person's ranking and aura.
Only the lowest ranking sharman can do the only thing other higher ranking sharman fail to do, funny.
Your aura is basically the energy and air that surrounds you and people around you can both identify you with it, once they are familiar with it, and can get a rough estimate of your rank once it has been unlocked.
Then the day I learnt all these things came back to me in a flash.
Now I am not just consumed by my thoughts. Now I am also entirely consumed by my past...

Three years ago
3rd person's POV
Young 15 year old Princess Riveria was wandering the palace in search for something to satisfy her unwanted boredom.
Suddenly she heard loud shouts which piqued her curiosity. She then decided to follow the racket, which lead her to the unsightly scene.
Her father flailed his arms in the air in frustration and anger while her mother sat on her parent's grey couch as she silently sobbed, while hugging and wetting the plush dandelion cushion with her tears.
"Mother, father what is the problem?" she inquired concerned about the situation she had stumbled upon. She wasn't concerned that her father was abusing her mother, no, she was concerned that whatever is making her mother cry and father seem so frustrated is a threat ... a huge threat.
The moment King Alexander and Queen Katherine heard the voice of their eldest daughter their heads cocked in her direction.
Her father's hands fell down next to the test of his body in defeat and her mother wiped her tears hurriedly. She got up as fast as lightning and sat Riveria down on the couch she previously sat on.
Queen Katherine sat down next to her child and gingerly picked up her hand and held it, rubbing it with her thumb in a circular motion - it relaxed both of them for a moment.
Her father stood frozen in front of them with his head bowed.
"Something is really wrong!", thought Riveria as she started to internally panic.
Her mother gave her husband a quick glance and then turn to her daughter.
"Riveria we have something to tell. We were going to tell you once you turned 16 but I guess today is as good as a time as it will ever be ", Katherine said breaking the uncomfortable silence.
She glanced again at Alexander hoping that he would continue for her but his head was still bowed.
"We tried Riv, we really did try, I promise." she said tiredly.
"What did you try? I still do not understand what it is you are going on about.", she said as her facial expression and body language was flooded by confusion and frustration.
Her mother sighed and reluctantly continued," Royal families have to follow certain laws which are used to effectively rule a kingdom and maintain order. These are called Royal Laws, they are mostly created and agreed upon by the Royal Council. Many of the Royal Laws have been either eased or terminated, for they were too old fashioned and were ,in lack of a better term, utterly preposterous. But there is one law in particular we were still trying to terminate or at least ease. The law that brought me and your father together-"
"But mother, if it brought you and father together why would you want to terminate it ? Is it not a good thing?", she asked puzzled interrupting her mother.
"Yes, it was a good thing that your father and I met but the way the reason we met is the the problem."
Riveria nodded to let her know I understood so far.
"But we failed at that time but we didn't give up, for the sake of our children in the future... especially for you and Nakia. Today...", she paused and looked up at the white ceiling as tears threatened fall.
"Today we received word that the newly appointed Chairman of the Royal Council was assassinated. He would have used his authority, as the highest ranking member of the council, to sway the rest of council members to terminate this Royal Law. Our pleads have fallen onto deaf ears and our attempts have proven to be futile. Riv if nothing changes in the next three years... You will have to get married, whether willingly or unwillingly, on the year of your 18th birthday. On the night of your birthday, you will be informed who you are to marry."
By the time Queen Katherine uttered the word 'unwillingly' tears started to fall, she couldn't help it. She felt like this too once...but she was lucky enough to get married to Alexander, they fell in love the moment their eyes met.
Riveria just sat there frozen in place, trying to process what she just heard.
"This is a lot to take in."
"I know, trust me you are taking well, very well. Better than I did." Katherine said with a small loose smile as she reminisced about that time.
"Mama will I ever fall in love?", Riveria asked in a moment of vulnerability in the brink of tears, afraid of the answer she would get.
Queen Katherine pulled her daughter in for a tight embrace and whispered truthfully to her, "I don't know honey, but I pray one day you do..."
..........
