River Of Dreams

The whole throne room was silent as he walked inside. He could feel everyone's eyes on him, eyes filled with pride, happiness, joy, and some with mockery. He heard people whispering to eachother,a few snickers here and there, but on the whole, nothing broke the overall deafening silence.

He tried to walk as regally as possible,in his royal suit and new red cloak. He reached the steps that lead to the golden throne and looked up,at his beaming mother and his father beside her,his eyes brimming with pride.

He walked up,trying not to do anything stupid, trying not to be clumsy. He was trained all his life, for this very moment..

His mother placed the golden crown with a red, glowing ruby in the centre,on his head and his father removed his red cloak, donning his son with the king's golden cloak.

He faced the people in front of him and sat down on the cold throne,an alien feeling seeping through his heavy golden cloak.

"Hail to our new king! King Alexander Lightwood!"

Alec smiled charmingly, just like how he was trained, and nodded his head.

He knew he should be happy beyond measures,as this was the day he had been waiting for all these years...

And yet...It felt like he was the only person who was feeling..Feeling nothing. No nostalgia,no happiness...

Just emptiness.

He closed his eyes and let out a huge sigh. When he opened his eyes, everyone had vanished. The empty throneroom started shaking violently.

Alec could feel the throne shaking, his crown falling off his head and tumbling down the stairs. At the bottom, the crown was in bits and pieces, the broken pieces of ruby all over the place, like blood splashed on ice.

Alec felt himself fall, and to his surprise,he didn't land at the bottom, along with his shattered crown. He was falling...Still falling...

"Prince Alexander... My lord..Its time for you to wake up.."

Alec pulled the covers closer and covered his head, resisting the urge to punch his servant,Wren.

He shrugged Wren's hand off his arm and sat up, squinting his eyes. Everything was blurred. Wren bowed and went on and on about the events of the day. Alec was only half awake. The shattering of the crown still seemed to echo in his ears.

Alec lifted his hand and silenced his monotonous voice."I know Wren. Thank you for reminding me. If you could kindly lay out my attire, I'll be up in a minute. Thank you"

Alec was surprised, how he was able to repeat it so perfectly,in the perfect tone, without even trying to. Just like a parrot, after years of training.

Wren bowed again and walked out of the room.

Alex's eyes adjusted to the brightness of his room. He sighed and got up,stretching himself.

He had to get ready for yet another day of fake smiles and sweet lies.
