I was wrapped in a shawl that was also mysteriously hid behind a tree and embraced in his arms again, which I could get used to by the way. We were staring at the water as it calmly danced over rocks, silence enveloping us except for the whistle of the wind that brutally bit into my wet skin.
"I want to show you something," I look up towards him, his eyes gazing over the water.
"What?"
"Stand up and please follow me," I sigh, I was already too comfortable in the position we were in but I oblige anyway.
"Thorns," he whispers as I dust the shawl to wrap again around my body.
"Excuse me?" He looks towards me and I found it incredibly fascinating how the color of his eyes merged with the water.
"Thorns," he says again and I just nod because I was too tired to speak.
"I need to carry you, you have no shoes," I look down towards his own bare feet and look back at him.
"But...the shoes...no," I watch in a blur as his face morphed into confusion.
"Tired," I was too tired to function, my whole body too weak to support itself and my vision blurring to an extent my eyes hurt. I close my eyes and breath in. I forgot the side effects to swimming, it was extreme fatigue for me and unimaginable hunger.
"Looks like you have not been getting enough sleep," His voice vibrates through his chest and I hum in response while moving my head closer to his surprisingly warm chest.
"Sleep..."
.
"Hales Adams," I breath in and smile towards Sam.
"You can do this!" I ran towards Sam and I hug the breath out of him. I didn't know what was going on but for some reason everything felt right. It felt like it was where I belonged.
"You made it," I look towards my right where Mom and Dad were standing, their smile revealing their last teeth.
"She made it," my head instantly turns towards his voice and there he was, smiling his breathtaking smile, his hands outstretched for me. I push away slowly from Sam and walk towards him and with every step I take my smile widens and a raw feeling blooms in my chest. I was close enough to jump into the arms that felt like I belonged into them too.
He lifts my head up so that Im staring into those mesmerizing eyes of his and moves close to my ear, so close his breath was fanning my cheeks. I close my eyes and await for him to speak.
His lips move against my ears and I wait for the words impatiently...
"I love..."
.
I yawn and slowly open my eyes to the suns rays burning into them. Scrunching my eyes I block the radiating sun with my palm. I squirm in my seat as I try to hide my burning body from the sun feeling sweat dribble down my neck and in between my breasts.
"Where are we?" I yawn again, my squinting eyes trying to process my surroundings.
Was that a face above me?
"God?"
"Yes?"
"Is that really you?" I move my hand towards the face that was being shone on by light, probably the Holy Spirit, but quickly retrieve my hand when it comes into contact with a wet substance.
"Sweat..." I whisper, then it all comes back to me. I wasn't in a seat I was still in Max' hand and he was probably sweating because of the heat and because of my weight that he had been carrying for miles!
I jump out of his arms quickly and drop my eyes to the grass as embarrassment colored my features, "Im really sorry for being a burden you must be really exhausted that was really selfish of me really and I should have been more thoughtful before..."
"Hales..."
"No! No, Im like so self absorbed Im really sorry Max. I thought only about me and nobody else and..."
"Hales!" I stop blubbering.
"Look at me," I couldn't because tears were suddenly streaming down my cheeks.
Did my period start?
"Hales... are you crying?" He was doing that thing, that weird talking thing adults did to kids when they were crying and I hated it.
"Yes," He bends down to try to look at my tear painted face but I quickly turn away from him and rub away the tears from my eyes.
"You are so adorable!" My breath hitches in my throat when his hands tangle themselves around my stomach. His body was too close to mine and I could feel the warmth of his chest radiating on me. I breath in as I try hard to ignore the weird tingles spreading in my chest and try to compose myself, but his hands...
Stop it Hales!
I close my eyes and lean on him. The smooth material of the shawl slowly flows off my body and delicately lands on the ground, leaving me exposed in just my undies. I suddenly felt cold even though I was exposed to the suns heat.
"Hey Hales?" I open my mouth but quickly close it when I feel his fingers playfully run on my stomach but his playfulness wasn't the situation for me because he was leaving a trail of heat that made my stomach turn. I felt something down there which made me self consciously clamp my legs together.
"Max," it sounded so breathless I wanted to slap myself.
"Yes?" I could hear the smile on his face. And just as quickly as he started it, he was done with the taunting torture on my body and leaving me to silently beg for more. I was trying hard to dismiss the weird feelings bursting inside my body but I was one big mess. He was walking ahead of me like none of that just happened and looked incredibly calm, but me? I couldn't even walk properly.
What was that? What the heck was that? And why Im I suddenly all hot and flustered. I close my eyes and place a hand on my heart and try to ease myself.
"Hales?" I quickly open my eyes and pretend like I was looking for the shawl the whole time.
"I was just thinking of where I dropped this,"
I fake laugh and quickly wrap the shawl back on my body.
"Anha..."
"Yeah," he sounds like he didn't buy nothing of that.
"Shield you eyes because as I open these bushes your sight will forever be blessed," I laugh at how British he sounded saying that.
"Shield woman!" I roll my eyes and place my palms over my eyes.
"Now walk."
"I cant see Gummy!"
"You are not going to fall just walk."
"Prince Charming isn't going to assist me?"
"Nope!"
"What a gentleman!"
I slowly walk towards him while not trying to trip on any rocks, snakes or anything else trippable, "Im I there yet?" I liked the sound of the dry grass as it crunched beneath my feet.
"Near..."
I move one step forward.
"Warmer," one more step
"Hot," two more steps.
"Perfect," I slowly move my palms from my eyes the sun which was now directly in my eyeballs then quickly lower my gaze, letting it slowly adjusts on the field of yellow. As my vision slowly readjusts and the blur that occupied my eyes is no longer there I cant help but gasp because my eyesight was truly blessed. Right in front of me, blooming, was a sunflower field! Right in front of me! It was beautiful, every sunflower standing healthy from the ground as it shone out towards me, each radiant and deep yellow.
"Ho-how did you know?" I couldn't take my eyes off the field and slowly started to add up comic quotes about the color yellow.
'Why do all villains wear yellow?'
'Because it is the color of fear.'
I turn towards Maximus and smile at him, I wanted to hug him for this but I restrict myself, "Did you know why Eboard Thawne made his suit yellow?"
He smiles at me, that small smile he kept giving me that made me somewhat happy too? "No?"
"So basically he wanted to be the Flash but then poop happened so he made his suit yellow instead like the color of the suit of most of Flash's sidekicks but then he got jealous and stuff and he became a villain instead of Flashs sidekick," I stop to catch my breath, "then you know again I read this from the comics DC Rebirth you might have a different story from mine but thats okay you-"
"Hales slow down," he puts his hands on my shoulders and shakes me.
"Sorry sorry I just get too excited when Im talking about the Flash," I turn back towards the field and smile again, "But you know yellow is my happy color, the way its so bright it just makes your whole day bright. Like how these sunflower are so bright and beautiful they just makes you smile," I hear him chuckle behind me but I don't bother to turn around still too busy trying to capture the field into my long term memory.
"You talk too much when you are excited," I smile preventing myself from over explaining.
"Lets go in," I motion towards a path shone by the sun between some sunflowers. He takes my outstretched hand into his and allows me to lead the direction into the field of bunched up sunflowers.
"Sunflowers are my favorite flowers," I breath into their non existent fragrance that I solely believed was there, floating around waiting to be caught, light, and if you caught a whiff of it you were lucky. It smelt like scented breeze but it had a homely feeling, it'd settle down in the depths of your chest and create a warmth that would instantly make you smile.
"I know, you have fake sunflowers on top of your dining table," the fake sunflowers didn't do them justice, they were way more beautiful when they were alive and being shone on by the sun.
I let go of Max's hand and suddenly had the urge to run deep into the field and just get lost into this small paradise, "Catch me if you can!" And with that I jolt deeper into the field, letting my right arm free so that it could feel the sunflowers as I dashed past them but immediately stop when I realize that I was in fact damaging them.
"Im right behind you Hales!" I look back and see him close to me, running as if he wasn't even trying. I squeal and run faster, the field a yellow and green blur.
"Right behind you," I groan but continue running even though my chest felt like exploding and my legs felt numb, I was not going to give up.
I am going to die
I need to stop!
I won't let him catch m-
"Stop stop stop," I was panting like I just ran a 5 km marathon but Im sure that wasn't even a meter, that was how unathletic I was. I rest my hand on my knees and try to catch my breath, my lungs feeling extremely small and tight.
I look over at Max who seemed like he didn't run at all and who was smiling down at me like he won something, stupid competitive fish.
"I just saw a beautiful sunflower," I say in between pants.
"Yeah sure that explains your profound panting and your super red face that is gleaming with sweat," I point towards my face and whisper, "just makeup," he laughs and plomps himself on the ground beside me watching as I still struggled to catch my breath.
"I will definitely beat you next time," he pats my back in sarcastic reassurance then looks up at towards the sky.
"England is funny," he says more to himself then to me but I still sit down next to him on the rough patches of dry grass, look up towards the sky with him and ask why. "One moment the sun is shining high up in the sky and the next it suddenly disappears," a big grey gloomy cloud hovered above us hiding the sun and its scorching heat from roasting us alive. I sniff the air as dirt mixed with drizzle and close my eyes and let the droplets gently pat my skin. I loved this, I loved the smell of rain, I loved the feeling of it on my skin, I loved how it always reminded me of home and the people I loved, how it instantly made me think about hot chocolate, blankets and cuddles.
"You look beautiful," I look over towards Max who was already looking at me, rain water slowly sliding down his forehead from his wet hair that clung to his forehead. I smile and push it back, it was my turn to be the hairstylist. But all that time I was fixing his hair he was looking at me with this stare, this stare that was so hard to define but one which definitely made me squirm in the grass beneath me.
"So beautiful," I look back into his eyes but he wasn't looking at mine and thank God he wasn't because he would have seen how his compliment was affecting me. His eyes had landed on my lips and I slowly started to read his movements, from his gulp to his eyes flickering up to my eyes and back down again.
I found myself looking at his lips also, they were slightly open and wet as rain water gleamed from its surface, "Did you know..." I gulp trying to complete the sentence that I myself didn't know the completion of, "that the skin on your lips is the same as the skin on your anus-" and before I knew what was happening his lips were on mine.
My eyes widen in shock.
Prince Maximus Bartholomew was kissing me.
