Chapter 4

Deva stayed in her room for most of the day which was out of character for her. She took her meals in her room and was graced with Julia's presence for dinner.

"So what did you do all day?" Julia teased knowing very well Deva did absolutely nothing.

"Watch birds fly by. It's very calming you should try it sometime."

Julia rolled her eyes and popped a French fry in her mouth. "Ok grandma. I'll pencil it in right after my knitting session."

Deva stayed silent while directing her attention outside the window. It was times like these she wished she could go back home.

"You can't hide in here forever."

Deva exhaled all the negative energy out. "I know."

"I can't even image what you've gone through. Honestly I can't. You have a crown on your head and we live in a vampire world. Not to mention you were attacked by your future half-brother in law." Julia marveled at how calm Deva was about the whole situation. "This puts that Maury show to shame."

Deva laughed and Julia was grateful that was something she could provide as a distraction.

"Enough about me. What's going on with you and Marcus?"

Julia's mood instantly blossomed to enthusiasm. "He took me to a play yesterday. It was a cute comedy way better than any Broadway production crap."

"I'm really happy you've got him. I know he's a good guy." Deva pushed back into her chair. "And if he breaks your heart I'll hire someone to mess him up."

They both burst out in a fit of giggles. No one was stupid enough to hurt a vampire prince except for perhaps another vampire prince.

"What are you two laughing about?" Marcus showed up right on time.

He gave Julia a kiss before settling down in the chair next to her.

"You actually."

Marcus scanned his eyes over his own body. "There's nothing to laugh about."

Deva laughed even harder. The princes were far too cocky for their own good.

"Deva, how are you feeling today?" Marcus asked on a serious note.

Marcus was thoroughly surprised to come home from his date and to have a new brother added to the family. He wasn't shocked by many things but this was unthinkable.

She half smiled. "I'm just tired, that's why I'm staying cooped up in my room."

"Well I hope you recover soon."

She did too. She hated feeling this weak. She was definitely giving the gym a rest for a few days.

"Have you officially met him yet?"

"My beastly hairy brother?" Marcus battered. "No not yet but I do believe my sister is spending some quality time welcoming him to our humble abode."

Humble was leaked with sarcasm. They all knew that the royal family was anything but humble. It was more like chaotic piece of mess.

"Well I hope she's careful. He has claws and isn't afraid of using them."

She didn't have claw marks to prove it but there were bruises she was trying to kept concealed underneath her clothes. She wasn't certain yet what the lycan really wanted but she hoped it wasn't to hurt her family. If he tried anything Deva would personally throw the mutt on the side of the road to get run over.

Izzy stood outside the door to the lycan's new living quarters. It was almost an identical match to Darius' room; plain, simple, and above all else modern with an amazing view of the woods in their backward.

"I was hoping you'd be a girl. I always wanted a sister." Although she was truly excited to eventually have Deva as a sister in law.

Adamarius chuckled. "I'm sorry to disappoint but I'm pretty sure I can paint your nails if need you need a girlfriend to talk to."

Izzy was touched by his playful gesture. "Well that's a relief."

His smile was genuine. "It's ridiculous how much you look like my triplet brothers. Well except your tanner and a bit more muscular."

"I'll take that as a compliment. I'm Adamarius.  I'm thrilled to finally meet you Elizabeth." He stretched out his hand.

Izzy shook it politely. "Oh please just call me Izzy. I'm your incredibly smart talented little sister."

"I've never had one of those."

"Well you can't get rid of me now." Izzy threw down the duffle bag she was carrying. "I come bearing gifts."

"I think I'm going to like this whole little sister thing."

She grinned pulling out a few clothes from the bag. "I know you came here with nothing. These are old clothes my brothers don't wear anymore. They'll probably be a bit tight on you but it will have to do till I take you shopping for a new wardrobe."

His face scrunched a smudge. So it seemed he wasn't too keen on wearing his brothers hand me downs.

Adamarius swallowed his pride and accepted the clothes graciously. "Thank you Izzy. Your kindness means a lot."

"Would you like a tour of the castle? My schedule is quite free at the moment?"

He nodded respectfully. "Yes I'd love one."

Deva held the divine glass of wine to her lips and drank savoring the dark starry night as she did so. The moon looked unrealistic by the way it was cast in front of her. She could see small crater wholes on the surface of it. It was incredibly captivating. The air was not as cold as it was a few days ago so that left Deva in a thin sweater covering her petite body.

Placing her hand on the railing of the balcony she closed her eyes and took a deep breath to clear her thoughts. So much has happened in her life that she felt it was all a dream; a dream where vampires, lycans, and kingdoms existed.

Heavy footsteps slowly walked her way but she didn't look up until the person reached the side of her. She felt her calming mood and sense of peace crumbling at the sight of him. Adamarius didn't acknowledge her presence as he stood there just as mesmerized by the view as she was. Deva took a step back getting ready to leave.

"Try not to howl at the moon tonight. Some of us actually like to sleep."

He tilted his head in her direction. "And maybe some of us should watch our backs."

Her eyes narrowed. What was he implying? "Are you threatening me mutt?"

"Perhaps but what's the point of threatening you? You'll just get your little princes to do all of it for you. I promise you pet that I could put all three of them down in a matter of seconds."

Deva inched closer to his very intimidatingly tall form. "No I'll just call the pound. I'm sure they could find a family who's willing to take in an ugly hearted mutt like yourself."

Adamarius growled through his teeth. "I can rip your throat out little girl before you even take your next breath."

Deva's lips curled into an amused grin. "Aww is the big bad wolf trying to scare me? In case you haven't noticed it's going to take a lot more than sharp teeth and long claws to scare me off."

Deva turned on her heels before he could give her that look like she was his next victim.

"You forget little red riding hood that this wolf is also half vampire."

She stopped and turned her head to the side, barely having him in her vision.

"Oh and pet try not to scream in your nightmare tonight. Some of us have sensitive hearing and I do like my sleep." He snickered.

Deva scowled before resuming leaving. "And I'd like my foot up your ass."

"What was that pet?" He called after her with a slight chuckle.

"You heard me dog, you and your sensitive hearing," she yelled, venom seeping through her words.

"That I did, puppet. That I did." Adamarius watched as her small frame waltzed out of the room. He hated the girl with a passion and felt great delight in annoying and tormenting the crap out of her.

Deva slammed her door shut with all the anger the mutt had put her in. Why did he have to get on her last nerve? His arrogance choked her every time he stepped into the room.

A knock on the door stopped her from further thinking about him.

"Come in."

To her surprise Lucian walked in. He seemed a bit weary as he made his way towards her.

"Lucian," she raised her brow. Something was definitely on his mind. Was there more to confess because honestly she didn't think she could handle anymore drama.

"Loosh are you alright?"

That pulled him out of his daze. "Yes fine. Um Deva we need to talk." He moved closer to the table.

She knew this was coming. After pushing him away that one day when she was punching the bag; she knew she would regret it. "Look Loosh I'm so sorry I spoke to you like that. I'm such an idiot. I didn't mean to push you away or hurt your feelings. I was just under so much stress and I knew you were just worried about me."

"I always worry about you." He looked as if he regretted it too. "You have been pushing me away."

"No Loosh with everything going on I just haven't been myself lately."

"I've noticed."

She wasn't' sure if he meant to whisper the words or not but she heard them and was strangely wounded by it. "What do you mean?"

"You just don't seem like the same since..." He stopped and his pause seriously angered her.

She knew what he was going to say and she really didn't want to think about it. If it wasn't for Red she would still be with Darius right now.

"Well that's a hard thing to get over."

"I understand that Deva and you know I'm here for you, right?"

"Yes of course Loosh. I know that."

He smiled and she felt relieved to know it was one of his real warm smiles. "Good but now I have some bad news."

She exhaled then sat in the arm chair. "Ok hit me with it then. I can take it."

Lucian went to kneel in front of her. "I'm leaving. I have to go."

"Go where?"

Lucian sighed. "I'm scouting the country to find more lycans. Father thinks that there might still be some alive in these parts."

"Won't it be dangerous?"

He laughed at her then kissed her forehead. "Yes but I'm a very strong vampire prince. Plus my teleporting skills will definitely give me an advantage. They won't even get close to me."

She pulled him into a tight hug one last time before he had to leave her.

"Take care of yourself while I'm gone baby doll."

"I'll try."

With that he vanished before her eyes.

Adamarius was enjoying the fine air of the night. It was clean and thick with the aroma of woods. It reminded him of home. The dark atmosphere of woods and trees were what he grew up with. He had lived for years in comfort of nature.

"Would you like a drink?"

Adamarius didn't have to turn around to know it was one of his half-brothers offering him a drink. He just didn't know which one. "Yes please."

They handed him a drink. Adamarius felt no threat or anger coming from this brother. It had to be Marcus.

"Thank you."

Marcus nodded. "I've just come to properly introduce myself. I'm Marcus."

Adamarius had heard quite a bit about them already thanks to his little half-sister who loved to talk. He could tell he was going to be very fond of her.

"It's nice to finally meet you."

"I just want to make one thing clear. Mother has already accepted you into this family but that won't be the same with us. You tried to hurt a very important girl to us, the future queen in fact. If you ever try that again my brothers and I won't hesitate to kill you."

Adamarius smirked. Of course they were already so protective of her. But how long have they really known her?

"I promise it will never happen again. It was my lycan and nothing more. I can control it now. I'm sorry if I offended you."

Marcus tore his eyes away from the spectacular view of the moon to really read his sincerity. Adamarius looked pretty sincere.

"I believe you."

They both turned back to the night sky, casually taking sips of their drinks.

"It must have been hard for you; growing up, knowing we were your brothers and watching us grow up in all of this." Marcus spread out his hands gesturing towards the castle and kingdom.

The three princes were always in the tabloids of almost every magazine. The public couldn't get enough of the three heirs. Marcus could only imagine how rotten or spoiled they must have been compared to Adamarius. If he wasn't taken by his father, Adamarius could have possibly had the same lifestyle as them.

"Yes, it had its difficulty. I had to hide who I truly was for so long. I envied you." Adamarius confessed.

Marcus didn't say anything.

"My father left me. I had no mother. I had to survive. I had to survive in this world where hatred for lycans was in everyone's blood. It is instinct to hate my kind."

Marcus knew the start of the hatred was due to his father. The massacre was a product of the lycans' extinction.

"Did you ever try going to another kingdom?" Lycans were rare but Marcus knew some still lived in the other kingdoms.

Adamarius shook his head. "What would be the point? Lycans are treated like filth. They are slaves to vampires. What kind of life would that have been? It is better and wiser to just hide it from the rest of the world. This is no world for lycans."

In that moment Marcus found a new respect for his half-brother. He had to survive in this harsh world to live. It was something Marcus would probably never have to go through. Marcus was just privileged and never really had to fight for his life.

"I stayed in this world for centuries before I figured out about the portal. I have royal blood in my veins, due to our mother's blood. I didn't know how to use it till much later in my life. I found my solace and peace in the human world."

Marcus was confused. "Then why come back?"

"Curiosity. I wanted to know my mother. I was tired of hiding because even in the human world I had to. Besides it was getting harder to suppress. Our lycan gene wants to claim dominance. If you don't let it out sometime it likes to take over the reins."

"You knew my father was the one who lead the extinction of your people and yet you still risked your life coming here?" It just made more sense to Marcus if Adamarius took his chances in the human world.

Adamarius' green eyes glowed in the dark. "Death is one thing that does not scare me anymore."
