Married Life, Perfect Life

65 to 67

A whirlwind of travel, studio sessions and another movie release sped us through our first year of marriage so quickly, it seemed like:

You blink, it's gone.

We settled into living together, worked around schedules and conflicting appointments. Media was abysmal, I was invisible before but now I was a Beatle wife, fair game for the paparazzi's flash bulbs morning, noon and night.

Marrying on the 30th March 1965 shortly after Richie and Mo, we- groomsman and bridesmaid for them and they- groomsman and bridesmaid for us.

Paul was best man, his speech was wonderful and I kept his page of notes and tidbits after I discovered them discarded on the table that night. John catching me tuck them into my bra.

"Just married and I catch her shoving love letters from Paulie in her bra. Mrs Lennon, I may have to attack you to peel those pages from your bosom!" John chased me round the room, it's hard to run in the wedding dress, so soft and full, daring lines at my chest, I felt a princess at her ball, lovely, alive and sparkling with Joie de vivre.

John caught me and I was swung around and around, the dress and I travelling thought the air around him like a carousel in full flight we spun til he became dizzy, then fell in a heap on the floor, John recovered quickly scooping me up to his chest, kissing me silly. Family and friends surrounding us in the middle of the dance floor as we sat, well he sat I was wiggling and laughing but we were happy, enjoying each other.

A few months later at the end of July I took his arm again, another beautiful dress, this time fitted fabric of gold and pink making him call me his princess as I descended the stairs to be taken to the cinema. A special night, of course, the world premiere of the boys second movie 'Help!'.

John in turn, suave and just marvellous, in a suit and bow tie, which I had to rescue from the floor in the closet after he tossed it. After too many goes at trying to make a neat bow, he had discarded the fabric to the shag carpet floor only a few minutes before.

"Stand still, Winks" I spun John round from the vanity, his hair could wait a moment or two.

"NO, I'm not wearing that thing, it's hideous. Makes me look like a right prat"

Arrr but you're my prat so you must wear it, son!"

"But Ma" John snuck a kiss and I turned him straight on so I could reach round his neck with the ties ends, my hands hugging his neck gave him opportunity for a hug and kiss and he took it greedily.

"Quit your snogging, stand tall. Not that tall! Now stand still so I can tie this without using it as a noose!"

"I love you Syd" A snuggle in the bathroom turned into me trying to bow the damn tie while under the weight of John on our bed, he had backed me out of the bathroon, softly shoving me down backwards, then laid upon me fully clothed and we only had minutes til the car arrived!

"I love you too, you big bear, come on look up. There, your ties done, do your hair quick winks I'll fix what you wrecked of mine in here at the dresser" I smiled into a long kiss and we broke apart.

"Here I got you something, Rox" I smiled as he handed me a small box, black with a red ribbon. Openning it as John kissed my cheek I found a lovely opal pendant necklace and earrings to match inside, John clipped a small orchid to my dress too, a tiny flower of pink and white.

"Oh I am so spoilt by you, I love you so much. I only wish I could make you as happy as I am"

"I love you too Rox. You're my gift from heaven, you are my moonlight, my roses, my love. I'm deliriously desired and definitely devotedly happy with a sexy chick like you"

I giggled, kissing his nose and he picked me up, careful to avoid knocking the orchid and my hair.

"You don't mind me calling you Syd do you? You and I, Sydney Harbour, that's where you had me, right there was when I knew we were forever luv"

"How could I forget. Syd to you, is my Winks to me. I love it, I love you so very, very much" I smiled at the memory, special and so precious and ours.

We made the crowded streets of London. Ten thousand or more of the Beatles 'best friends' screaming. My ears were ringing even before we arrived. The black Rolls Royce slid silently towards the entrance, close enough for us to hopefully enter the cinema in one piece.. we would go to the Dorchester Hotel afterwards and the lads were expected to meet Princess Margaret.

This year was turning out to be the best.

Office Space

"Congratulations you are now a fully-fledged solicitor again" Brian beamed holding up the flute of champagne "Speech?!"

"Hang on, congratulate me too for holding 'er hand to coming back to be a solicitor person" John dashed in like a man possessed and hugged me tight. Paul, Richard and George all filing in slowly grabbing glasses pouring champagne messily. "We made it. I. paid the driver to speed. It was crazy eh lads"

"John Winston Lennon you're talking to a solicitor you ninny I can't represent you now if the long arm of the law comes for you over a speeding charge!" I pushed him away gently to collect the flute of champagne held out by Paul. I hopped up and stood on a chair, holding Johns shoulder on his return to my side. Freda, Neil, Derek Taylor, Mal, most everyone else in the office coming for a gander at the show and some liquid accompaniments "Oh ok. Thanks' Bri you were brilliant firstly to listen to John, wow that in its self is funny!"

"Yea I am always ignored" John pouted making us all laugh, he is so animated and witty, one of the reasons of thousands I love him so.

"Shush John my turn!" I got my own smattering of applause for shushing the great John Lennon "I love you all for helping me grow and discover London. Brian, again, you have been nothing but a help and so  encouraging. This new step, I can't believe it, an office of my own, open for business! It's so great. Thanks lads, it's been a train wreck and side-show all the way! Cheers!"

There was not a second between my being let back into the Bar and opening the office, a week later and I had 2 more solicitors in my employ all young and 'with it' as it were. They, and I, representing the cream of English celebrity, and I can hardly believe it!

Little ol me and a 'ted' from Liverpool making it in the brightest lights, the brightest city.
