In which two teenagers discover the existence of more than one Spider-Man after accidentally being in the wrong place at the right time.

OR

Melody "Mel" Smith is a genius. At least, that's what she should be. In all honesty, who would want to be if they had life troubles consisting of a missing father, an older sister who couldn't care less about them, and a slightly troubled mother? Mel has her father's smart mind, but instead of using it for studying engineering or chemistry, she uses it for creative writing. From ranting about her life to scribbling pages about super powered characters inspired by New York's very own Spider-Man, (who is one of her personal heroes), Mel's writing is one of the few things she has that brings her comfort.

Of course, the fact that she wants to making a living out of her writing isn't well-received in her home. Her sister claims it's a stupid job, while her mother is repelled by the very thought of it, saying it would be a dishonor to her name. The only person in her family who would have encouraged the girl in pursuing a career as an author is her father, and he's gone.

While attending Brooklyn Visions Academy, she is surprised to bump into her best friend, Miles Morales. And things only get weirder from there when he tells her that he may have gotten powers from being bitten by a spider. At first Mel doesn't believe him, but her mind is quickly changed when they stumble upon something that shouldn't have been found... and witness something that they shouldn't have had to see.

As things become more and more complicated with the arrival of some displaced Spider-people, Mel and Miles are faced with a daunting task: they have to get them back to their homes before destroying the machine that brought them.

But it's easier said than done, and as their mission becomes more and more dangerous with every turn, Mel discovers something about herself that she's certain wasn't there before, and that's before she learns that maybe she didn't know her father quite as well as she thought she did.

A/N: Another plot I'm totally in love with and am tempted to write and keep for myself, but I know others can do it better. But this plot is amazing and I'm happy with the way it turned out. The description is enough to get the plot across while keeping it spoiler-free for the folks who haven't seen Into The Spider-Verse yet. If you can find a good faceclaim for Melody, PM me with who you've found.

NOTES:

- Since Melody likes to write, she dreams of publishing a book, with Miles as the illustrator. She often goes over to Miles's home to talk over her stories or show him new stuff she's written. Miles is one of the few people who supports her in becoming an author. They have a sort of brother-sister friendship, and there should be moments showing this.

- Melody gets the power of teleportation from the blast the collider sends out during her first time there. It effects her similar to how the particle accelerator effected people in The Flash. She disappears and reappears surrounded by purple mist. Side effects include dizziness and blurry vision if she teleports one too many times.

- Aliases for Melody are Phaseshifter (her super-heroine name) and The Storyteller. You can give her others if you want to.

- Melody forms a bond with the Spider-gang, enough that she considers them friends by the end of the book.

- Surprise plot twist: Melody's father worked on the collider during its early stages of testing, and during one of the tests, he accidentally got pulled into the collider and sent to another dimension. You can expand on this idea if you want, and could set this up as an idea for the sequel.

- Melody's tough and a bit standoffish, since she hasn't gotten much respect from her family or anyone after her father disappeared, and she's had to fend for herself mostly because of this. She can be sarcastic around people she doesn't like or who annoy her and become almost aggressive if pushed too far. She's also a bit closed off in terms of sharing her writing with others for fear of being mocked or shut down (this fear originated from her sister and few other "friends" who turned out to be real jerks). The only person she's truly comfortable around is Miles. Another part of her personality is based on the fact that she misses her dad a lot, and she secretly wants to have a father figure to look up to. She eventually comes to find one in Peter B. Parker.

- At one point, the team should visit her apartment and she gets flustered when they find her writing, thinking they'll just mock her work or find it stupid like her sister and everyone else. To her surprise, they don't, and what's more, they like it and encourage her to keep going. This is a key moment where she learns not everyone is going to criticize her for wanting to be an author. They also find a picture of her father as well, and she tells them what she believes happened to him.

- Melody's super suit looks something like this, only with a hood. The suit color is black and purple with a purple mask and black boots:
