Chapter 15

It was like flowers and music and chocolate and bunnies and all the good things of the world mixed up into one kiss. Patton pulled away and smiled at Logan, who was blushing so hard his hair had started to smolder.

"How about tomorrow?" He asked when Logan failed to say anything. The son of Hades just nodded slowly, still in shock. Patton chuckled, "See you then." and he shut the door softly.

He turned around silently and grinned at Ali, who'd been sitting in the corner of their room listening to the whole thing. His roommate sighed. "Just... please let me put on my headphones first."

Patton waited, and as soon as Ali's ears were secure he let out a world-ending squeal. It lasted a good seventeen seconds.

"I'm going on a date with Logan!!"

"Yeah, I heard."

"We kissed!!!"

"I saw."

The smile was starting to hurt his face, but Patton couldn't care less. He'd just been asked out by the most beautiful boy in the universe, and they were going on a date tomorrow! Nothing could bring him down!

"So, where are you taking him?"

Patton froze. He turned to Ali again, panic setting into his expression. His roommate immediately regretted saying anything.

"Oh my goodness, you're right. Where do I take a guy on a date? Where do I take Logan on a date??"

His first date. Well, first date with a guy anyway. In the past, his parents had set him up with the daughters of family friends. They didn't really get that he wasn't looking for a princess... but it all turned out okay! He actually made friends with a lot of the girls they introduced him to. But this... this was different.

He'd thought Logan was cute the first time they'd met. That nerdy vibe he gave off was adorable. Then, Patton started to see how interesting he is. While most people saw him as this expressionless, emotionless robot, Patton spent enough time with him to notice his little quirks. Logan loves learning new things, and he always gets this excited look in his eyes when he gets to explain them to others. Not only that, but he's a really dependable friend, treating Virgil like a brother. He cringes at Patton's puns, but Patton knows he secretly likes them. Or maybe Logan just likes him enough to overlook them. Either way, this had to be the man of his dreams.

That meant this absolutely had to be a dream date!

Ali, completely out of his depth, awkwardly patted Patton's shoulder. "Um... do you need me to call Riley, or are you good?"

---

Logan had barely slept last night. Usually, that was Virgil's problem. They'd even made awkward eye contact when they were both still awake at 2 a.m. Logan had really needed to study for this date, though. Romance was one subject he'd never cared enough to learn about, and now he was paying for it. So, he spent all night researching online, hoping that would be good enough.

He stopped by Patton's room at about 3 p.m. the next day, and knocked as he went over the plan in his head.

Step one: Woo date with compliments, gifts, etc.

Step two: Go to places to eat food and talk about things.

Step three: Physical contact... or, wait, was that later?

Before he could remember, the door opened, and his plan shattered.

Patton was standing there wearing a light blue skirt with suspenders. Logan thought he must be wearing makeup too, because he was already blushing pink.

After a minute it occurred to him that he should probably say something and not just stand there slack-jawed.

"You look very good." He blurted out, mentally chiding himself. 'Very Shakespearean, Logan.'

"Thanks." Patton replied bashfully, "Is the skirt too much? Riley said it looked nice, but-"

"It suits you." Logan said quickly. It really did.

Patton grinned and the two of them set off.

"I- um," Logan began as they made their way out of the dorms, "I made a list of possible courtship destinations last night. So, er, would you like to eat food?"

Patton giggled. "I'm way ahead of you."

A shortcut through the park brought them to town quickly, and from there it was only a few blocks away. Tiana's Beignet and Coffeehouse was situated on Main Ave, and Patton took Logan's hand and led him inside. It was fairly busy, filled with other teens, some of which Logan recognized from their school.

"The usual, Prince Patton?" A young man greeted them as he brought a plate of beignets to the window display. He winked at Patton, and Logan strangely felt bothered by this.

"Actually, Tate, I'm on a very special date today." Patton replied, causing Logan to turn a deep shade of red, "I'd like to treat him to your finest sweets."

"You got it!" Tate said, and walked to the kitchen. Logan felt triumphant, for no logical reason he could discern. It seemed he felt a lot of things around Patton for no reason.

They took a seat in a comfortable booth together. A moment later, Tate came back with a plate of assorted pastries. Logan turned to Patton, relatively concerned. "This can't be healthy."

"It's a special occasion!" Patton nudged him, "Besides, aren't you all about research and discovery? It's your responsibility to explore new tastes." He cheekily took a bite out of a cream-cheese filled chocolate cupcake, as if to emphasize his point.

Logan looked down at the plate, temptation entering his mind. "Well... I suppose since the Isle does not have such confections... I should at least try. For scientific reasons." Carefully, he selected a cookie with a bit of jam on it. The moment he took a bite, his eyes widened. Nothing he'd ever tasted before had been so perfect, so decadent. It was astounding,

"Is this the ambrosia of the gods?" He asked, dead serious.

Patton laughed. "Crofter's jam, actually, but good guess. We can order more?"

"You are a figurative angel."

Patton blushed, smile stretching across his face. Logan smiled back, taking another bite. Then he froze, feelings eyes on him. Glancing around, he saw them. They looked young, some of his peers perhaps. They were glaring at the two of them together, and whispering. Logan's mouth set into a hard line.

"Logan?"

"Hmm... what?"

"You set your napkin on fire."

"Oh!" Logan stamped out the tiny flame, then looked at Patton's worried face.

"Are you okay?"

"Yes. Why don't we take these to go? I want to see more of the city." Logan partially lied. He just didn't want Patton to fret about their judgmental audience. "Where to next?"

---

"That's a great place to get coffee! A lot of Auradon students frequent it. Oh, there's the local animal rescue! Those pets are the cutest!" Patton babbled on as they strolled along. Something seemed to have upset Logan for a moment back there, so he searched for something to alleviate his mood.

As music filled the air, the answer became clear. Patton grinned, spotting a small crowd surrounding a young boy performing with an accordion and a girl played a flute. Perfect! He took hold of Logan's arm and quickly pulled them closer to the scene, eliciting a small sound of surprise from his date. The tune was a romantic kind of song, meandering and intense. It made Patton's heart swell with each note as he swayed along.

The two finished playing and applause rattled out around him. As Patton clapped, he looked at Logan, curious to see what he'd thought of the performance. He was taken by surprise when Logan's eyes were already fixed on him. Logan looked away as soon as he'd been caught, but Patton had a funny feeling he'd been looking his way for a while.

Then Logan's eyes seemed to land on something else, and Patton followed his gaze to an old bookshop. Lighting up, Patton gestured towards it. "Ooh, let's check it out!"

Logan's eyes snapped back to him. "Oh, are you sure? If there's something else you'd rather do-"

"Come on!" Patton wouldn't take no for an answer. He knew Logan was secretly dying to go in. The moment they entered, Logan's eyes darted everywhere a mile a minute, as if trying to memorize every detail. He seemed to be drawn to the old, musty shelves in the back, and Patton followed.

"Look at these archives.." Logan breathed, "And this is a catalogue of all known astronomical events!" He was soon completely absorbed in his reading. Patton giggled, and wandered around, browsing the shelves. He gasped when he saw a familiar cover.

"Oh my goodness! I remember this story!!" He exclaimed excitedly.

Logan walked over and Patton showed him a colorful storybook. "This was my favorite when I was a kid. It's about a prince who gets cursed by a witch to be invisible. All the girls who wanted to marry him before left because he didn't look handsome anymore. He didn't look like anything. No one paid him any attention, and he was left all alone in the world."

"Hm." Logan replied, "They sound shallow. Who would want to be with someone who only loved them for their looks?"

"Yeah, but here comes the good part!" Patton exclaimed as he flipped to the end, "The prince starts singing to himself, pouring out all his emotions. Then another voice joins his, another invisible soul. They start to talk, and sing together, and finally they fall in love. When they get married, they reappear, the spell broken."

"Is this a factual account? Check the citations."

He laughed, face reddening a little. "No, it's all made up. Didn't you ever read any fairytales?"

Logan shook his head. "I don't see the point. If it isn't real, what value does it have?"

"I guess it has the value we ascribe to it." Patton replied thoughtfully. "Like, maybe there was never an invisible prince in the real world, but there was a little boy who learned that there was more to him than what others saw, and that one day he may find the right kind of love."

Patton sighed nostalgically and closed the book, setting it back on the shelf with care. Then he turned back to his date. "Did you find anything you like?"

"Yes.." Logan says softly, staring at him. Then he coughed and looked away. "Ahem, I mean, yes, I did! This tome looks especially intriguing."

The title read 'Ancient Alchemy and Sciences,' and Patton smirked. Of course.

"If only the school had this available in their current library stock." Logan continued, flipping through it, "Information like this could better prepare me for the Academic Decathlon later in the semester."

"Let's get it then!"

"What, no, no, that's really too much!" Logan protested.

Patton smiled and took the book from his hands. "I insist."

Logan wasn't able to resist Patton for long, so they ended up leaving the shop with a souvenir. "I'll carry it though." Logan compromised, slinging the complimentary tote bag over his shoulder.

Everything was going so well! All Patton needed now was the perfect end to their date. Though, he wasn't sure what that could be. He thought about what his friends would do. Roman would probably suggest something very romantic, like a carriage ride by the seaside. Riley would suggest... well, some not very PG activities. But what would Logan choose?

'Oh! That's it!' Patton hooked his arm around Logan's and grinned. "Want to take a trip to the museum?"

---

Auradon's Museum of National History. Logan had only ever read about it, only dreamed of one day visiting it. It was filled with countless ancient relics, writings, even some magical objects of import. Years of knowledge assembled in one building. Climbing the marble steps up to the entrance was the closest he'd ever come to weeping for joy.

"What exhibits do you want to check out?" Patton asked, "Maybe famous animals and familiars? Ooh! There's a portrait gallery featuring famous women in history! That looks cool."

Logan just nodded. There was nothing he wouldn't want to see, and having Patton there with him made it all the more special. He couldn't believe he was on a date with him, here, like some dream or fantasy.

They walked around for a good hour, staying in each exhibit long enough for Logan to inspect everything and read every plaque. They spent extra long in the room showing off the technological advancements throughout time, from early horse-drawn carriages to Atlantean crystal tech. Logan admired one such model of an Atlantean vehicle while Patton giggled over how it looked like a glowing lobster.

"That one's a dolphin!!" Patton exclaimed in delight as he ran towards the other model, and Logan made to follow him when something caught his eye. Through the adjoining hall, a golden plaque marked a different room.

'The Council of Crowns.'

Frowning, he walked over and peered inside. The room was circular, large, and bright. Portraits of the various rulers of the Council lined the walls, all surrounding a podium in the center of the room. Logan approached it, reading.

'After years of being threatened by evil forces, all kingdoms banded together and became the United States of Auradon. The Council of Crowns, formed thereafter, made a promise to protect their people from all harm.'

Logan paused, then looked all around him. The kings and queens, princesses and princes stared back at him with unchanging smiles.

"Logan?" He heard Patton calling. After a moment, he turned and left the room.

"There you are!" Patton exclaimed when he returned. "I thought it was kinda fishy when you disappeared." Patton leaned heavily next to the dolphin vehicle and grinned.

Groaning, Logan shook his head. "Dolphins are mammals. If you're going to make puns, please make them factual."

"So I'm allowed to make puns, then?"

"I didn't say-"

"Anyways!" Patton cut him off, "What are we looking at next?"

Logan looked at the map, and he raised his eyebrows in interest. "There's an exhibit on famous villains.." As he looked back at Patton, he got the feeling that he'd made the situation uncomfortable. "We don't have to see it." Logan added.

Patton's eyes widened. "Oh no! I mean, we can totally go see it if you want to!"

"Okay, then.. let's go." Logan replied, unsure if Patton was being honest. A troubled thought crossed his mind. What if Patton was actually really put off by the villain exhibit?

'What if he's put off by my father? Or me?'

But he'd already committed, and now they were on their way in. Unable to find a way to explain his uneasy feelings, Logan instead pushed them away as they stepped through the dark curtains.

---

Patton had to blink a few times for his eyes to adjust. Unlike the rest of the museum, the tone of this exhibit was a little ominous. Low-lighting cast beneath portraits, making the villains portrayed look even scarier. He gripped Logan's arm a bit tighter, he hadn't expected the room to be this spooky.

Was Logan okay, though? He glanced at him as discreetly as he could, but Logan was facing away. Patton bit his lip nervously.

'He's probably fine, I'm just making this weird. This is fine.'

Then he saw her portrait, and pulled away to get a better look. She had a severe face, cold eyes... and an apple.

'The Evil Queen.'

Patton wasn't sure how to feel about her. He didn't believe anyone could be pure evil, and that should include her. Still, it was difficult to look at her after all the stories his mom had told him and forgive her. The hardest part is that he couldn't understand how someone could do such terrible things to their family. Years of abuse, imprisonment, and then... his grandma tried to kill his mom.

He sighed, knowing why the Isle Act happened. It was because people were afraid, yes, but also because they were hurt. But revenge isn't justice, and Patton just needed to show the Council - his mom - that.

'People like Logan don't deserve to be punished for this.' Patton reaffirmed, then looked around for his date. It seemed like he'd wandered off again.

"I haven't done anything."

Patton frowned, hearing Logan somewhere. He went around the corner and saw him with two security guards.

"Sir, leave the museum now. This is your final warning." One of the guards said, putting a firm hand on Logan's shoulder. Patton's insides twisted when he saw this, and he quickly made his way over.

"Excuse me? What's going on?" He demanded and looked at Logan, whose lips made a tight line across his face.

"Nothing to worry about, we're just removing this man from the premises-"

"He's with me!" Patton exclaimed, pulling Logan out of the first one's grip. The guards just looked at each other in confusion. Patton waited, then continued when they didn't answer. "So, why are you trying to kick him out?"

"Well, we've received a tip that he's from the Isle of the Lost." The second guard said awkwardly.

Patton's jaw nearly dropped. He looked around, realizing people were staring at Logan, whispering to each other nervously. It made his stomach drop.

"So what? He's not doing anything wrong!" He felt tugging on his sleeve, and Logan muttering. "Patton, let's just leave."

The first guard stepped closer. "Listen, we have sensitive materials in the building, especially in this exhibit. It'd be best if he left now, or else we'll have to escort him."

It was a very rare occasion when Patton got angry. Most of the time, he tried to keep calm and deescalate whatever situation got too heated. But in this moment, he was furious, and about to unleash some clean but non-polite remarks at these two.

"It's okay. I'm leaving." Patton's eyes widened when Logan said this, and he turned around in time to see him quickly walking away.

"But- Logan!" Patton cried as he ran after him, leaving the exhibit behind. Logan was fast though, and Patton kept getting caught in the crowd as he tried to pursue. A little ways ahead, he saw Logan slip through the museum exit. He teared up a bit as he followed.

'I was trying to help, but... did I just make it worse? What if I embarrassed him?'

He tried to wipe away his tears with his arm as he got outside. It was almost evening, and the area wasn't as populated as earlier, but Logan was still nowhere to be seen. As he looked around, his heart sank. This was supposed to be an amazing day, and he was supposed to be an amazing date. Now, he may have ruined things between them forever.

Finally, he saw him. The blue flames were unmistakable. Hesitating, he began to walk over.

--

Sitting on a bench overlooking the pier, Logan put his head in his hands. His hair was flaming blue, which he despised, but he was past being able to stop it. He was just so angry. Angry at the security guards, at everyone who'd stopped and stared at him today, but mostly? Angry at himself. It would be so much easier if he wasn't from the Isle of the Lost.

He could see it from here. It was just a little speck on the horizon, with the sun slowly descending upon it. But as hard as it was to see, it was always there. And it would always be in him.

Maybe this whole thing was a bad idea. Not because he got kicked out of the Museum, or because people were rude to him. Logan couldn't care less what people thought about him, it was annoying but he could brush it off. But Patton deserved to go wherever he wants on his dates, not be whispered about or judged for being with some villain's kid. If Patton had gone on this date with any other prince, maybe he would be better off.

"Logan?"

He heard him standing there, but he couldn't look up at Patton yet. He must look disturbed, his hair ablaze like this. The silence carried on between them as he tried to formulate a response.

"Logan, I just wanted to say.. I'm so sorry about all of this."

Hearing Patton's voice crack, he finally looked up and saw the tears flowing from his date's eyes. Sitting up, he replied with worry and confusion. "Why are you apologizing?"

Patton wiped his eyes. "I'm sorry if I embarrassed you, or made you feel weird, I'm sorry about this whole date! I tried so hard to make it perfect.."

"It's not your fault, it's mine." Logan answered, shaking his head, "I'm not... I'm not good enough for you, Patton."

"That's not true at all! If I ever made you feel that way-!"

"No, of course not. You make me feel amazing! But all these people who hate me, I can't let them hate you because I love you!"

Logan stopped, realizing what he'd said.

"You.." Patton sat next to him, "You love me?"

"Well, I, uh," Logan stammered, "Yes. I think I do."

Patton smiled slowly, and took Logan's hand. "I think I love you, too."

They looked into each other's eyes, then closed the distance between their faces. Logan, not caught off guard this time, could enjoy every moment of this kiss, beginning to end. When they, reluctantly, pulled apart, Logan sighed.

"I was trying so hard to do this whole date thing." He admitted, "I wanted it to go well, for you. I didn't want to let you down."

Patton giggled. "That's what I was trying to do, impress you! I've been stressing out over this since last night!"

"Me too! I couldn't sleep!"

"Me neither!"

They laughed, leaning against one another.

"About the Museum.." Patton said quietly, and Logan looked down again, "It's not your fault. They were out of line."

"Yes, well," Logan said sadly, "It's simply how things are."

"It shouldn't be."

"But it is." Logan sighed, "This is something that will keep happening, at least for awhile. If your proposal doesn't work, then it'll be even longer. Maybe forever."

"It'll work. And I'm going to be right there with you no matter what." Patton replied, "I'm always going to defend you, Logan. I'll be your knight in shining armor."

Logan shook his head. "No. We'll be each other's."

Patton chuckled. "Well, now that you've cooled off," he said, ruffling his hair, "..what do you want to do?"

He didn't even mind the dad joke this time. "I don't know. Is there any specific way to end a date?"

"Who knows?" Patton laughed, "Do you just want to sit here and watch the sun set?"

Logan looked ahead, over the cool ocean waves that carried his faraway home. The sun was sinking behind the Isle, making it a black silhouette against a rainbow sky. Suddenly, it didn't look so bad anymore.

"Perfect."

A/N: Hey guys, sorry I'm late, I was stuck in the chaos void for months. What did I miss?

Seriously, I'm sorry about being afk all this time, it was just writer's block mixed with school stress and covid and motivation issues, plus I got wrapped up in another fanfic for a while - I didn't mean for it to take this long. But, finally, here is this chapter! Just some nice Logicality biz! I hope it's enough to appease you demons.

Full disclosure, this chapter was an amendment to my original story plan. I just felt like, after last chapter, this had to be a chapter devoted to their date. I'm sorry to my Roman and Virgil fans, but this is what made sense to me. I'll have more Prinxiety content in the future, I promise!

Speaking of Virgil fans, someone asked me when I'll dive into more of his backstory. Good question! I'm planning on touching on that next chapter, so hopefully that will give you more of what you want. Sorry if this story is too slow burn, I'm just kind of doing this whole thing chapter by chapter, and along the line I come up with new things I want to include, making the whole story a lot longer than I initially planned, haha. But, yes, I'll write more about Virgil soon, I promise.

Thank you to anyone who's stuck by me all this time. You're incredibly special. Keep being a star. And let me know if you have any questions/critiques/concerns/ideas, I appreciate it!

Until next time! <3
