<• Rapunzel's POV •>
----Three days later----
These past three days have been nothing but work. work spent on Hiccup's foot. but to tell you the truth, I felt like it was well spent.
On our break times, we would go and talk with hiccup. he was stuck in bed, apart from his flying time with toothless. I felt bad that the production of his new prosthetic foot wasn't so quick.
But we passed the time by telling stories. Jack told us about his past human life, his first fight with pitch, and all the plentiful adventures he's had throughout his life of being a guardian. an eternity with him and the guardians seemed so much fun, I honestly couldn't wait.
Merida also told us her story about her time struggling to be a princess like her mother wanted her to be. but then she told me the process of how she changed her fate and it was so hard to believe. but after the things I've been through, I think a witch turning a queen into a bear is more reliable than I thought.
And finally hiccup, he told us about his hardships as a Viking. and how he tried so hard to prove that he was strong enough to 'kill' a dragon. (of course I was confused at that point because he had a pet dragon). But when he went on with how he couldn't bring his heart to kill toothless, it made me feel a little warm. friendship comes in different shapes and sizes.
So when I looked at the three new friends in front of me I felt lucky. We might be different but we came together. we all made it through with doing something different in our lives.
Late one day, Merida scraped her arm on a nail that stuck out of the post of Hiccup's bed. I tugged on my long golden hair as I saw her wince.
"I'll be right back." she said, "I'm gonna go get a band aid or something."
Something triggered inside me right when she reached the door. "wait!" I called, my voice oddly even. "wait... I have a better idea."
Merida gave me a questioning glance. "okay?" She mumbled and sat down on the bed, next to hiccup.
"Alright... um." I looked up at everyone staring at me, all the guardians. "since you all told me your stories, I'll show you mine."
I could see the confusion on their faces, with their heads cocked to the side and their eyebrows either raised or furrowed together.
I wrap my hair around Merida's injured arm hesitantly. she did seem sort of cautious.
With one last look at everyone around me, I opened my mouth and began to sing:
Flower, gleam and glow
Let your power shine
Make the clock reverse
Bring back what once was mine
Heal what has been hurt
Change the fates' design
Save what has been lost
Bring back what once was mine
What once was mine
I removed my hair slowly and solemnly looked at everyone's faces. most of then were filled with shock. Merida was the only one who looked down-right weird. her pupils were small, her breathing was quick, and her shoulders were tensed up.
"Please don't freak out!" I yelp and put my hands up.
Merida examined where the scrap was. "how... how long?" she managed to squeak out.
"Uhh..." I looked down. "my whole life?"
There was a very long silence.
"I know there were many times I should've used it but the thing was... I was scared. and when I did feel like it was a good time, something would come up so that I didn't have time to heal anyone and-" I started to speak quickly but was interrupted by someone's hand touching my shoulder.
I turned around to see Jack smiling. "hey. it's alright. things did happen rather quickly. and you did the right thing, everything would've been too easy." his smile then grew into a toothy grin. "It definitely played out well for hiccup."
Everyone laughed, including Merida and hiccup, and I slowly joined in. This really was a family. a family way better than what I used to have.
<• third person POV •>
Understanding.
Loving.
Caring.
Team work.
Four of the many qualifications to being a guardian.
Fun, the ability to get through problems with a smile. the ability to protect with games and pranks. that is what defines Jack.
Logic, the ability to get through problems with knowledge. to get through life with your brain and your senses. to see every possible option to protect any amount of people. This is what defines Hiccup.
Creativity, the ability to get through problems using the arts. when you can't use entertainment of any kind to relax or excite anyone if the world. This is what defines Rapunzel.
And bravery, the ability to get through problems head on. where you care more about the people around you more than yourself. This is what defines Merida.
These are the guardians of the seasons: winter, fall, spring and summer.
And protectors to the kids of the world.
