Silent Company

Ross' POV

( little update, I will be referring to Robert as they/he from now on, so I'm sorry if that gets confusing at times )

I closed my door shut quietly, not wanting any more loud noise or even noise at all, I dropped my backpack on the floor as soon as I entered my room, sighing in relief. Today was so stressful, and I've never been too much of a person to stress, but today was different. I flopped onto my bed and got under the covers quickly without bothering to change into some comfortable clothes, I stared at the ceiling and started to think about what happened. Robert wasn't at school at all today because he had a dentist appointment, and his mom said it would just be better if they didn't go at all today, especially since his dad wasn't home so them and their mom could spend some time together, Roy was at school but most of the day he was in the office for bullying a younger kid. I have bad stuttering problems when I talk to people I don't really hang out with, and I was paired with a big group of people in science class, we had to discuss stuff and everyone kept ignoring me because of the stutter problem, which I didn't really care about but at the end of the day, it kinda hurt because I really did have some important things to say. And at English, I had to share a project publicly, and same issue again, my stutter problem. Not only that but I have a big fear of performing and talking in front of people, and the whole class was a little too much for me to bare. And with every tiny mistake, I made everything so much worse for myself, after I was done performing I tried my best to calm myself down and Roy even noticed how I was and tried to cheer me up, it helped but I still can't help but feel like pure shit. And the noise, god the noise. For some reason everything was so loud today, the people, the music, the sound of my own walking, and of course as soon as I come through the door my mom is blasting music. But she greeted me with a big hug and kiss, so I could never be mad at her. I could feel my eyes water and I quickly closed them shut and turned to my side, I didn't feel like talking or doing anything, I had homework I needed to do but my body really needed the rest, and just the time alone.

The sound of small clanks hitting glass slowly started to wake me up, I sat up on my bed and looked around my room, still feeling a little shitty. I turned to my clock that read 6:24 PM, damn, I really slept for a while. The clanking noise made me jump a little, and a tiny pebble hit my window. I got up out of my bed and walked towards my window, looking out it before opening it. Robert was down with a worried but happy look on their face, "Ross! Where have you been? Are you alright? Can I come in?" I looked down at Robert and then quickly turn into my room, looking around for a split second before looking back at him and nodding. I grabbed the ladder I kept in my closet for Robert to climb up since him and Roy would sometimes sneak into my place and slowly slid it down my window, Robert set it up and started to climb up it. While they were climbing he spoke, "You didn't answer any of my texts, I just got worried and figured I should come to see you." I grabbed Robert's hand and they came in through my window before finishing their sentence. "Plus, I didn't see you today so.. I just wanted to see you." They gave me a soft gentle smile and I smiled tiredly back. "Why didn't you answer my texts anyway? Even Roy said you weren't responding to you." I looked nervous for a second before signing "Sleep" in sign language. Whenever I was non-verbal or just didn't feel like talking I learned some basic sign language to help me whenever I don't have my notebook or phone to write and say stuff. Robert gave me a surprised look before they spoke again "Not in the mood to talk?" He asked, their head slightly tilting to the right. I nodded and then frowned, Robert knew the only time I didn't feel like talking was when something bad happened. "Rough day?" He asked with a soft small tone, I slowly nod and he frowns. They open their arms and offer a hug, my frown grows bigger and I slowly walk into him, his arms wrapping around me. I bury my face into his neck while we hug, feeling the comfort and care that come from it.

After a minute's hug, we pull away from each other and I smile I grab their hand and bring them over to my bed, they sit and look at me confused as I run to my backpack and pull out my notebook, sitting beside him and then opening it with a pencil in hand.

Robert's POV

I stare at Ross confused, he begins to write something in his notebook and shows me after he's done, handing me the notebook as I take it into my hands. I read what Ross had written in his notebook. "How was your day?" his handwriting neat as always, but still a little shakey. I turn to Ross and he quickly nods his head, wanting to hear about how my day was. I smile and start rambling about how my day was, it was pretty good, my dad wasn't here all day so me and my moms spent the day together. We went out for breakfast, went shopping, and then after I went to my dentist's appointment. They patched up this crack in one of my back teeth and said I was good to go, and then when we hit the road again she took me out to get some snacks for behaving well, after that we went home and enjoyed watching some TV together. And then I noticed the time and tried texting Ross but he didn't answer, so here I am now. I finished rambling about how my day was and looked at Ross who was smiling and staring at me, he grabbed his notebook from my lap and started to write in it, he handed it back to me afterwards so I could read it. "That's good, I'm glad you had a nice day. I missed your voice." I read out loud and almost cut myself off at the last second because I got flustered. "Daaaww! You sweet dork!" I said as I gave him a nudge on his arm and he let out a tired soft chuckle. "So how was your day?" I asked, and I watched as his smile slowly turned into a frown, he grabbed his notebook and began to write, a little longer this time. He gave me his notebook again and I began to read. "A little rough, super loud and had to do a bunch of talking today. Really stressful overall, but I'm glad you're here." The smile on my face faded away as I read what he wrote, I had a worried look on my face and looked over at Ross who was smiling tiredly.

"Aw, Ross.. I'm sorry you're day didn't go well." His face turned into a worried shaken expression for a second before writing in his notebook once more. He handed his notebook to me again and I looked at him before reading what he wrote. "No, no! Don't be sorry! I'm just really happy you're here, that's all I need." I looked up at him "AWWWW...ROSSSSSSS.." I opened my arms and wrapped them around him before he laughed and hugged me back, I started to slowly sway ourselves around in the hug and Ross started to laugh a bit. I gave him multiple kisses on the cheek, he let out a bunch of giggles along with a small "Hey!" before we pulled away. "Now what?" I asked, Ross looked down at his notebook but instead he just closed it and threw it on his floor, I looked at him confused as he began to lay down in his bed and then reach his arms out for me, giving me a sign to lay down with him. I smiled and curled up next to him, my head resting on his chest and his hand running through my hair. He let out a tired sigh and snuggled more into my hair. I smiled and grabbed the TV remove, turning down the volume before deciding on a show for Ross because he said today was a really loud day for him. "Any show or movie suggestions? I looked up at him and asked, he looked down at me for a split second before giving me a small shrug in response. "Hmmmm.. South Park? Season 4?" I asked, looking up at him once again. Ross spoke which caught my surprise, "Whatever you want is fine Rob." I smiled, whenever he started talking again he was normally in a better mood, so knowing that me being around him genuinely changed his mood made me really happy. I turned on South Park and we watched it together for a while.

To my surprise, Ross fell asleep while we were watching the show, but Ross is usually such a sensitive sleeper, he can't really sleep with noise or sound, which is funny cause sometimes he even sleeps with his beanie fully on covering his face due to that issue to prevent light and sound. He must have been really tired, his bags under his eyes were more visible today than ever, today really wasn't his day, at all. I slowly got up from his bed, gently removing his hand from my head and placing it down on his chest softly, I smiled and made my way downstairs into Ross' living room where Jaune was sitting on the couch watching TV "Hey Ros- Oh! Robert! What are you doing here? I don't think I saw you come in." Yeaaahhh.. Jaune knows I come through the window sometimes but I'm pretty sure she's very forgetful when it comes to me and Roy. "Oh, Ross has been asleep all day and I was worried so I just stopped by, I hope that's okay." Jaune got up from the couch to give me a hug before she realized something and pulled me away "Oh! Robert! Please bring up Ross some food, he hasn't eaten at all today, that boy didn't even bring his lunch to school. I'll heat up his food real quick, want some too?" She asked before opening the fridge. "Ah, no, that's okay. Thank you for the offer though." While Jaune heated up his food I poured him a glass of ice cold water and set it on the table while I patiently waited for his food to be done. After it was done Jaune handed it to me and I brought it upstairs to Ross' room.

I opened the door and pushed it open with my back as quietly as I could, but when I turned around Ross was in his bed awake, watching the very quiet South Park that I left on. He turned to me and smiled before speaking "Hey." "Hey." I sat beside him and gave him his plate and put his water on the nightstand. "Here's some food and water, you need to eat." He smiled before picking up his fork. "Thanks Rob." He ate his food and drank his water in a fairly quick amount of time before putting his plate on his night stand. "Enjoy your food?" I asked, slightly leaned closer to him, "Yeah, it's really nice to eat after a stressful day like this." Ross didn't look so tired anymore, and now he actually had the energy and motivation to talk, and was also sitting up straight in his bed. I stared at him smiling, I was dozing off and didn't notice that Ross was staring at me back before he spoke, "You make everything so much better, y'know that?" I stoped dozing off and I could feel my face slightly flush red from his small compliment. "Daaawwww! You're just saying that!" I teased, giving him a small bump and he chuckled in response. "Really, you do." He said smiling at me, we made eye contact, his face a light shade of pink while I could clearly tell that most of my blood was being rushed up to my face. "Wow Ross, it's almost like you're gay for me or something, you got something you wanna tell me?" I teased again, he leaned in closer before asking "Wanna find out?" I didn't even have to look in a mirror to know my face was burning hot right now, I could TELL. I was trying to come up with something to say but stumbled at my words, Ross laughed and put his hands on my face, giving me a soft quick kiss before pulling away. "Thanks, for checking on me." I smiled "Anything for the boy I love the most.

We were about to kiss again but my phone alarm rang, 9PM already? Jeez, "Crap, Ross I have to go home." "Bummer, will you be at school tomorrow?" He asked, his head slightly tilting to the side. I gave him fingerguns and made a cha-ching noise, I went over to his window and opened it, but before I hopped out I quickly turned to Ross and gave him a kiss. "I love you goofus." He laughed, "I love you too ya dork, see you tomorrow." I gave him a small wave before hopping out his window and climbing down his ladder.
