I Know That Guy

-

The sound of Nayeon's glitter rhinestone platform stiletto echoed the quiet lobby of the hotel as she headed for the exit where she was instantly met by the sight of a familiar white limo belonging to the Kim heirs.

Mostly it's all to Jisoo now, since both of her two older siblings have made it quite clear that they didn't want to be of any part of their family dynasty long ago, anyway. (It's quite interesting having two black sheeps in the family sometimes, too.)

One of Jisoo's bodyguards was already holding the door open for her when she neared the spot, giving Nayeon a polite nod while the latter only sent him a thankful smile.

When she got in, Jisoo was sitting at the far edge of the luxurious sedan, a scotch-filled rock glass in hand, staring out the window. Her head immediately turned to the opposite side when she heard Nayeon settle in next to her, a small smile painted on her lips. "Hey," She greeted, reaching a free hand over to hold the raven-haired girl at the small of her back as she kissed her on the cheek. Nayeon, on the other hand, just smiled back.

Jisoo sensed the way her ex was still contemplating about the whole idea of coming to a gala hosted by her ex, and she felt the need to maybe just say, "I'm sorry about this, Nadong."

She sighed when Nayeon turned to face her again, a questioning eyebrow raised. Jisoo just shrugged. "Look, I know you and Momo didn't really have a proper closure, either, and I want you to know that I genuinely feel bad dragging you into this tonight." Letting out a sigh, she added, "You know what? Forget it. Let's just ditch this stupid gala—"

"Jichu, no." Nayeon cuts her off, however, a comforting hand landing on the brunette's. Jisoo looked at her as if she just grew a second head, so Nayeon chuckled lightly, "You've been stuck in the worst place with your dad for the past 6 months, and you, not showing up to an event as important as this to him, wouldn't help with your situation at all. You have to be there." Her lips slowly pulled to her eyes, leaning over to press a soft kiss on Jisoo's cheek as well. "And I'll be there, with you. I know how much you need it." She rolled her eyes playfully, thumb wiping off the lipstick stain she's just marked on the older girl's cheek. "Some friend would I be if I don't stick by your side as you get your ass hounded by the starving press."

"You didn't have to use that term."

Nayeon scoffed, "Oh, come on. I can already see the headlines: Oil tycoon lands, exposing to the public after months of MIA. There's just no way they'd leave you alone, would they?"

Jisoo forced out a chuckle, "When I was officially co-opted CEO, I had no idea this is what I'm getting myself into." Swallowing a growing lump in her throat, she tore her gaze from the now worried Nayeon next to her and looked down. "I should've known better."

"Than accepting the generous opportunity of taking over your family business?" Nayeon questioned, voice soft as she continued to rub small circles at the back of the brunette's hand.

Jisoo sighed before looking back up at the raven-haired girl.

"Than letting her take over all of me." She bit her lip, hand clutching Nayeon's tighter all of a sudden in a poor attempt to relieve its involuntary shaking. "If it wasn't for those scandals, our family reputation wouldn't have been damaged the way it is right now. It's all my fault. I'm such an idiot."

"No, you're not, Jichu." Nayeon retorts quickly. The hand that wasn't holding Jisoo's reached over to grab the latter's cheek, turning it to the side in order to make the brunette meet gazes with her again. "You were in the wrong, but you can still make it right."

Jisoo shook her head, but she didn't dare tearing her gaze away from the raven-haired girl's anymore. "Are we currently talking about my lack of competence and effectiveness as business head or my very unfortunate fate in romance?"

The statement emitted a chuckle from the younger girl, as well.

"I'm leaving that up to you, now, to figure out." Nayeon said as she lets her thumb caress Jisoo's cheek comfortingly. She sent a sweet smile her way, which didn't take long enough for Jisoo to mirror easily. "Lighten up, hotshot. We have a gala to attend."

Chaeyoung had never really liked fancy parties before.

Or ever.

What is it with Momo and the Kim's throwing such an extravagant gala? Not that she minds (she does,) it just seemed a little too overwhelming for some (for her.)

Of course, Chaeyoung wouldn't just admit the fact that the vibe of the whole place screamed nothing but Kim Jisoo to her. And she wishes she was kidding, but from the fancy chandeliers to the neatly carpeted floors, Chaeyoung doesn't think this is just about her, being overly-dramatic.

The damn place reeks of Kim Jisoo.

Or maybe, it's really just the way all Kim's are.

(She just silently hoped it was really Kai and Jennie who's hosting this gala alongside Momo.)

"Is all this even necessary?" She exclaims to Lisa the moment they stepped foot inside the enormous venue, where everything looks too fragile and expensive to even just be stared at for longer than five seconds.

Lisa chuckled.

"The charity gala is part of the celebration of HM Industries' 50th anniversary. Of course, Momo would put out such budget for it." She says, taking two glasses of champagne from the waiter that passed by her and handing one out to the blonde.

Chaeyoung accepted it with a bit too much enthusiasm, causing the Thai lift an eyebrow at her. "Jesus, Ro, easy on the champagne. The night's barely started."

However, the blonde just continued to down the remaining contents of her glass before placing it down on the table and grabbing two more glasses from the waiter that passed by them again.

"Don't pretend you weren't the one to cradle me to comfort, yourself, just a few hours ago, Lisa."

The statement effectively earned a chuckle from the Thai. Well, she's got a point. It was obvious from the blonde's extra puffy cheeks and a poor excuse of an eyeliner (an attempt to cover up the traces of Chaeyoung's previous, unfortunate office breakdown,) that she, indeed, needed a glass.

Or maybe two.

Or three.

Especially after a familiar face suddenly came waltzing in to Chaeyoung's clear view, standing right by the entrance of the venue located just behind Lisa.

"Oh my god," Chaeyoung lets out, utter disbelief laced with her tone as she pointed a finger towards the spot a few meters behind the now confused Thai, "I know that guy."

Lisa raised an eyebrow, turning around to see what – or where – or who exactly the blonde was currently pointing her finger at. Both of her eyebrows raised when she saw Kai and Jennie enter the place, with another man in a formal gold and black suit following right after.

Turning to face Chaeyoung once again, she asked.

"You mean, Kai's plus one?" She supposes, watching Chaeyoung squint her eyes towards the three at the entrance just to make sure she was seeing everything right. "That Chanwoo dude that was supposed to be your date?"

"Chanyeol." A still stunned Chaeyoung unconsciously corrected, causing Lisa's gaze to turn rather amused.

"Oh, okay?" She shrugged as she lifted her glass up to her mouth, which was currently pressed in a thin line in order to prevent a knowing grin from visibly forming. "You know him, alright."
