Their conversation didn't end there.
"Yeri, can you run a few errands for me, please? I'm running late for a meeting." No response. Seriously, Chaeyoung needs her assisstant off the fucking phone for once. "Yeri?"
She sighed. Still not a response. Great. "For fuck's sake, I just want a damn cup of coffee!" She hisses under her breath as she continued to collect her presentations.
Glancing at her watch, Chaeyoung mumbled a few curses as she strolled out of her the building as fast as she could.
-
You had one job, Roseanne! One fucking job!
"My apologies for being late." Chaeyoung says the second she entered the restaurant's private room where the supposed meeting is currently being held at.
It's one thing for Chaeyoung to be in the same room as a bunch of high-ranking executives from different companies around the world, but being stared at like she'd just grown two fucking heads is a whole other story.
"I'm sorry, miss. I believe this is a private meeting." One of the CEOs, perhaps Berlin, or Sydney, (whatever,) sent the blonde a forced smile, while the remaining others just continued to stare at her weirdly.
Chaeyoung most certainly didn't ask for this.
Letting out a short sigh, she pulled her card out of her blazer pocket and showed it to Berlin, (or Sydney, or was it Tokyo?) "I'm CFO Roseanne Park, a respresentative of Yoo Industries. Unfortunately, Ms. Yoo couldn't join you in today's meeting so she sent me. Personally."
Oh, well. Sometimes the feisty just comes out whenever Chaeyoung is far too stressed out.
It seemed to work, though, Chaeyoung takes note, as Berlin (or Sydney, or Tokyo, or perhaps, Madrid?) was effectively left speechless at her sassy remark.
Fortunately for Chaeyoung, they were effectively interrupted before she gets into some serious trouble completey. "I apologize for the delay. Shall we start the presentations?"
It's as if on instinct that Chaeyoung turns her head towards the direction when the familiar voice rang against her ear, instantly meeting gazes with an equally surprised CEO Kim Jisoo standing in front.
Jisoo's lips slowly pulled to her eyes the longer they stare at each other, despite quite the surprise. Chaeyoung thought she saw Berlin (or Sydney, or Tokyo, or Madrid) attempt to greet the big bossman CEO Kim to try and kiss-ass, but he was rather beat to it by Jisoo herself, eyes still glued to the blonde,
"Good morning, Ms. Park."
Chaeyoung tried her best not to let her smile tear her face in half as she retorted a little bashfully, "Good morning, Ms. Kim."
Jisoo lets out a soft chuckle to herself before calling for the first presentor, while Chaeyoung was left smiling widely like an idiot in her seat next to an obviously pissed-off Berlin.
He can definitely kiss my ass, instead.
-
The meeting ended in a hitch, Chaeyoung just coming back from the washroom to find no one left inside the private expanse but Jisoo, who's currently packing up her things.
She looks up, gazes meeting with Chaeyoung, and then down towards Chaeyoung's scattered presentations. "A hand?"
The blonde thought keeping the creepy, wide smile to herself is, at this point, now utterly impossible. "I'm fine. Thank you." She retorts a bit shyly as she started gathering her stuff as well.
Jisoo hummed in response. "You did great today, by the way. Flawless report, smooth and easily presented. Jeongyeon needs to step up her game and promote you ASAP."
The statement effectively earned a hearty giggle from Chaeyoung, (and the angelic sound may or may not have caused Jisoo's smile to widen even more.)
"Why, thank you, Ms. Kim. What an honor it is to be commended by you." Chaeyoung returns playfully, making Jisoo let out a soft chuckle, as well. "Or perhaps, you're just playing favorites out there. See, this is the reason why Berlin stares at me like he just badly wants to throw me off the edge of a cliff."
This time, Jisoo's chuckle was lighter, more genuine. (And then, there are butterflies in Chaeyoung's stomach.)
"I'm pretty sure that's exactly what's running through his head that time," She finishes off gathering her stuff, glancing at Chaeyoung with a shrug. "Though, I'm also very much certain that was Rio wanting to throw you off a cliff, not Berlin."
"Really? Not even one of my guesses. My money was on Berlin or Sydney."
Jisoo scoffs playfully, "I can't believe you didn't get that. I thought you said you like your men properly hot and Brazillian?"
Chaeyoung blushed, suddenly remembering their elevator conversations the night they first met. How embarrassing!
"Shut up."
A chuckle escaped Jisoo's lips once again, tone turning a little more serious this time. "Kinda strange, no? How I never forgot about that."
Chaeyoung's smile was lighter, voice much much softer than before, "It's not, Chu." Gaze reassuring, "It's sweet, how you still remember the little things."
Chaeyoung wouldn't admit how badly she wants to just drag Jisoo closer towards her and just kiss her right then and there.
(She can't.)
"Yeah?" Jisoo sighs quietly, tone a little short of confidence. "Well, it is strange, talking to you about that again, right now. Right here."
"Yeah," Chaeyoung couldn't argue with that. "It is."
"A little bit." Jisoo smiles once again, glancing at Chaeyoung, who's now finishing off gathering her belongings. "You know, when I left Manhattan 6 months ago, I didn't exactly know what to think. Although, the thought that I'll never see you again was right there, stuck in my head. It never left, because I don't ever want to see you again and that's the truth."
She paused when Chaeyoung paused, looking up at her, gaze filled with guilt. Jisoo didn't like it, so she sent her a light-hearted grin.
"Full disclosure, I only ever imagined us one day, maybe after three, four years, bumping into each other once again. Perhaps, at a fancy theatre concert, with business partners, or in some cheap grocery store, with a bunch of cheap grocery bags in hand. I'll probably be alone, or with Dalgom; and you'll be with your gorgeous snowboarder son or that hot, Brazillian husband you always have this strange marriage fantasy over." Jisoo lets out a chuckle, which caused Chaeyoung to force herself to do so, too. "And when we speak to each other again, we'll just hang out, casually, catch up with each other over some wine and just laugh about... all of this."
Maybe it hurt a little, how Jisoo jumped into that kind of conclusion — that kind of future — for the two of them, after all they've been through; All the history together.
Chaeyoung knew she can't blame her, though.
She can never put any blame on Jisoo. No, Chaeyoung will never have the rights to do that.
"It's crazy— how things didn't exactly turn out like that." Jisoo's voice pulled her out of her thoughts, in which Chaeyoung had to blink at several times.
It's crazy. It really is. How they didn't end up not seeing each other for the next three or four years; with Brazillian husbands and Maltese-filled grocery bags. It's crazy how they were brought together again after several (painful) months, the least thing Jisoo expected while she spent some time away.
Or maybe it's not really that crazy. It's just that, "Not all things turn out the way you want it to, Chu." Chaeyoung mumbles softly, gaze remaining glued with the brunette's, open and honest, "Or the way you planned it to."
It took a few short (long, painful) seconds before Jisoo brushes it off with another chuckle and a shook of her head, tearing her gaze away from the blonde's.
"You would know, wouldn't you?"
Chaeyoung gulps, smiling a little forcedly to herself as she mumbled back in return, "Certainly."
She didn't tell Jisoo about the light sting in her chest, or the stupid butterflies that were still impossibly growing wild inside her stomach.
Not yet, at least.
Not now.
