Chapter 2

Soft, ambient city lights were the only source of light for the dark balcony. Yoongi didn't mind it as he sat alone on the floor in the right corner with his head leant against the cool glass panel. In one hand was an open bottle of Soju, and, hanging loosely in the other was a half-smoked cigarette. The cool breeze soothed the flush he felt on his cheeks from amount of alcohol he'd consumed.

The young man softly hummed to himself as his glazed over eyes stared down at the city street below. He hummed the tune he had created earlier that day as he brought the rim of the bottle to his lips. The stinging sensation of the alcoholic beverage ran down his throat, yet he didn't flinch. Rather, he embraced the feeling like a comforting hug from an old friend.

"Baby baby, you're a caramel macchiato. Your scent is still sweet on my lips," Yoongi softly sung the lyrics to himself with a lopsided smile upon his face. "Baby baby tonight. Yeah yeah yeah. Baby baby, you were warmer than the scent of a café latte. Do you remember that feeling? Baby baby tonight. Yeah."

A carefree giggle left Yoongi as he brought the cigarette to his lips and took a long drag from it. He closed his eyes as the air entered his lungs and tilted his head back against the wall. As he slowly exhaled, he opened his eyes to watch the white smoke float up high into the night sky. He chuckled as it disappeared into thin air, swept away by the breeze.

The sudden sound of keys unlocking the front door made its way to Yoongi's ears. His brown eyes immediately widen and a sparkle ignited within them. Sloppily, he heaved himself up off the ground and quickly stubbed out the tip of the cigarette before he flicked it off the edge of the balcony without a second thought. He stumbled to the open glass door and smiled even wider as his eyes laid upon his boyfriend.

"Seokie!" happily called out Yoongi as he continued to stagger his way into the apartment and up to Hoseok. "Seokie-ah, I missed you!"

"Hey Yoongi," sighed Hoseok as his tired brown eyes roamed over the messy appearance of the older. "Drinking again are we?"

"Of course," Yoongi laughed as he threw his arms around the younger.

Yoongi squeezed his arms tightly around the waist of Hoseok and inhaled the soothing rose scent as he buried his head into the younger's neck. He couldn't get enough of that smell. That intoxicating aroma. Under the influence, it drew him in even more. His body wanted to melt into the other's forever as he felt the hold be returned, just not as tightly. He never wanted to let such beauty go.

Hoseok groaned lowly as strong arms wrapped around him and grimaced as that putrid smell filled his nostrils. He could tell that Yoongi had been smoking once more. Nausea hit his stomach the longer they stood in the embrace. With his tired, aching arms, he pushed Yoongi away from him softly.

"How was your day, Hobi?" Yoongi smiled up at Hoseok, leaning in unconsciously, adoration bright in his eyes.

"Long," Hoseok sighed as he stepped around the other and took his backpack off.

"Was it busy?" he asked as he followed his boyfriend into the kitchen like a lost puppy.

"Yeah, same as it always is," he replied tiredly as he placed the bag on the bench top and opened up the fridge to grab himself a cup of orange juice. "Did you go shopping?"

"Yep!" Yoongi beamed brightly as he took another long swig of his drink while Hoseok stared at him with an unimpressed eyebrow raised. "I went down to the shops today. And I got some groceries. Oh, I had a coffee at that old coffee shop we used to go to. We should go there again soon, Seokie. I miss going on dates with you. And then on the way back I brought something nice. Wait! I brought something for you! Go sit down on the couch while I go grab it."

Yoongi haphazardly turned on the spot and collided with the corner of the bench top. He grunted before moving around it, the pain barely registered in his drunken mind. He rushed to the bedroom and pulled out the top drawer of their dresser where he had hidden the two gifts under a pile of socks. He held the wrapped rose and bar of chocolate behind his back in one hand, while, his other continued to loosely grasp the neck of the Soju bottle.

Hoseok sighed in slight frustration as he looked around the living room from his position in the kitchen. Opened cans and bottles were sprawled all over the place. Empty and half-eaten packets of snacks laid on the coffee table. He could see pages of the notepad ripped out, some scrunched into balls, all around the floor. The place was an absolute mess.

As much as Hoseok loved Yoongi, he hated this. He hated the place looking so sloppy. He hated the constant drinking. He hated the fact he would come home to this exact scenario almost every night. He hated how he would always be the one to clean it up. No matter how much he wished things would be different as he walked in the door, it never changed.

Groaning, Hoseok ignored the older's request to sit down as he simply placed his half-drunken cup of juice down and begun to clean up. He picked up the cans, bottles and packets first before he dumped them into the garbage bin beside the cupboard. He then gathered all of the scattered pieces of paper and neatly complied them onto the coffee table. Instead of discarding the scrunched up paper, he merely placed them alongside the pile on the coffee table in case Yoongi needed them after a night of drinking.

"Seokie-ah!" loudly pouted Yoongi as he stood at the edge of the living room. "Hobi, I told you to sit down on the couch."

"I was just cleaning up, Hyung," Hoseok sighed tiredly as he finally listened and sat down on the couch. He ran a hand down his face to hide his slight irritation. All he wanted to do was shower and go to bed in that moment. "What's up, Yoongi?"

"Like I said, I went out today. And as I was coming home," Yoongi smiled shyly as he slowly walked up to the younger and came to stop in front of him, stood in between his opened legs. "Well, I thought I'd surprise you with these!"

Yoongi held out the two presents for his boyfriend, a proud smile on his own face. He leant down and placed the items in his lap when Hoseok didn't move. A chuckle left his lips as he stepped over the other's legs and flopped down onto the couch, some of the Soju spilt onto his shirt.

"Do you like it?" he asked with hopefulness.

"Yes I do. Thank you, Yoongi," Hoseok forced a tired smile onto his face as he picked up the rose and inhaled the scent. "That was very thoughtful of you."

"I thought of you the moment I saw them," he blushed shyly before he took another sip. "You've been working so hard lately. I just wanted to surprise you."

"Thank you," he nodded and leant forward to place the two items on the coffee table for the time being.

As Hoseok leant back and allowed his head to fall backwards onto the soft material of the sofa, Yoongi brought both his legs up and gently placed his feet in the younger's lap. Hoseok brought his hands over to them, resting them on top of them, and occasionally caressed the delicate skin.

"Hey Hyung?" tiredly asked Hoseok after a  few minutes of silence had elapsed.

"Yes Seok?" Yoongi replied as he looked over at the tired male before him with a softness in his eyes.

"Before I go to work tomorrow, can we talk?" he asked tentatively, a worried frown upon his face as his head rolled to the side. He stared at his drunk boyfriend with sadness in his eyes.

"O-Oh, of course we can," Yoongi sat himself up on his elbows and tilted his head in confusion. "Is everything okay? Do you want to talk about it now?"

"No. Don't worry about it. You're probably too intoxicated to remember it anyway," sighed Hoseok as he gave the older a reassuring smile.

"Ah okay," he smiled warmly, took a sip of his drink, and flopped his head backwards onto the armrest. A soft sigh left his lips while he closed his eyes, enjoying the caressing that came from Hoseok's hands. He jolted up after a second of silence which startled the younger. "Can I share my new song with you?"

"I don't know, Yoongles," sighed Hoseok as a sudden yawn overtook him.

"Please," he begged as he rearranged himself on the couch so he sat on his knees. He shuffled closer and rested both this hands on Hoseok's forearm. "Please? I made it today. Like I did it really quickly. And that was before I had even taken a sip of alcohol. So I'm extra proud of it. Please?"

"Yoongi, I don't know. I'm really tired," Hoseok looked at the disappointment that begun to show on his boyfriend's face. Part of him felt bad. But another part of him didn't know if he could give it the full attention his talented boyfriend deserved. "Alright, be quick."

"Really?" happiness engulfed Yoongi's entire face as Hoseok reconfirmed with a nod.

Seeing his boyfriend stumble towards their bedroom did cause Hoseok to chuckle. As much as he was exhausted from the day, seeing the other happy to share any of his hard work always brought him some amount of joy no matter what mood he was in. He closed his eyes as he patiently waited, craving to be in bed for the night. He still needed to shower to get all of the built-up sweat off of him from a long day at work.

"Alright, so," excitedly said Yoongi as he reappeared with his laptop in hand. "I was at our old coffee shop and suddenly this song came to me. You have to tell me what you think of it honestly, promise?"

"I promise," nodded Hoseok while Yoongi sat down beside him.

The pair sat in silence as Yoongi brought up the exported file that contained the rough demo track. His heart pounded heavily as he placed the laptop on tired boy's lap, nervous to share his work. Yoongi pressed play and shuffled back so he could observe the reaction from his boyfriend. His eyes scanned the beautiful face and for a moment he was caught up in the beauty that was Jung Hoseok, completely forgetting about his song until the soft notes filled the quiet room.

"Baby tonight, have a good night. Our first text and phone call that was filled with awkward moments. Our highly anticipated first date, why did I bite my nails? Why was I so nervous? As time went by, we naturally developed into lovers. With those kinds of words, we checked each other's feelings," Yoongi's pre-recorded voice filled the room, Hoseok smiled unconsciously at the talent his boyfriend had.

"Our first date was sweet like a caramel macchiato. Wherever we went, we wanted to go together. But as time went by, those feelings went down like, uh, my insides ache for no reason, uh we used to be so good. Breaking up was like a bitter americano. My memories still go to that cafe," the verse ended and transferred into the chorus once more.

The song was rough, Hoseok could tell, but he was in all honesty surprised how well it had been put together in only a day. As the last few beats played, his soft brown eyes turned towards Yoongi. He could practically feel the anticipation that rolled off of the older. Silence continued to swallow the room as Hoseok was stuck in a state of admiration and shock.

"Shit Yoongi. That was really good," Hoseok's face was lit with a genuine smile, reminiscing on the song he'd just heard for the first time. "It's really catchy. And I love the track. You've done an amazing job to make such a clean demo, in what? Less than twelve hours?"

Yoongi's nervous heartbeat continued to pump fast as he allowed the praise to wash over him like a warm ray of sunshine on a cold day. A bright smile took over his face, mirroring the same expression from the younger. Sparkles took over his own eyes while he searched the brown eyes before him for any sign of insincerity. But none could be found. He would have known if Hoseok was playing up the praise. But he knew his boyfriend well enough to know that he genuinely meant every word he had said.

"Really? You really liked it that much Seok-ah?" he couldn't help but ask as he leant forward and came to a stop not far from Hoseok's face.

"Really, Hyung, I liked it a lot," he smiled warmly as he closed the gap and captured the older's soft lips in gentle kiss. He tried his hardest not to cringe or pull away in disgust as all he could taste and smell was cigarette. "Have you thought of a title for it yet?"

"Mmhmm, I'm thinking of calling it Coffee," Yoongi hummed distractedly as he couldn't help stare anywhere but at the lips right in front of him.

"Coffee? Wow, very good Hyung," Hoseok smiled, tiredness slowly creeping in again as he flopped his head back on the couch yet again and closed his eyes.

"Yah, don't fall asleep here!" Yoongi pouted sadly and leant forward to grip Hoseok's chin in his hand. He turned the face towards him and started to plant kisses all over the younger's cheeks.

"Yoongi-ah, stop," chuckled Hoseok as he flickered his eyes open.

"So cute," Yoongi continued to assualt the other with soft kisses, his grip firm on the sharp jawline to keep him in place. "I love you so much."

"I love you too, Yoongi. Now stop," a small smile graced his lips even though he wanted to cringe away from the disgusting cigarette scent that filled the air around him.

"Wish I could keep you here on this couch forever," Yoongi sighed as he flung his right arm and leg over Hoseok's well built frame, before he then snuggled his head into the warm nook that was Hoseok's neck. "So comfy."

"I said stop, I mean it. I've got to get ready for bed," Hoseok said with a slight annoyed tone as he tried to push the heavy weight off of him. "Yoongi."

"No. Too comfortable," he snuggled in further, placing soft kisses along the angular jawline and toned neck. "I've missed you."

"I mean it, enough," stated Hoseok firmly as he used the last of his fleeting energy to finally push Yoongi off of him and stood up from the couch. He collected the chocolates and rose from the coffee table before he turned to look down at the older.

"Sorry," Yoongi whispered with a frown, refusing to make eye contact. "You must be exhausted. I'm sorry. Good night."

"It's okay. Try not to stay up too much longer. Good night Yoongi," Hoseok said a lot softer as he realised he'd upset Yoongi. He placed a tender kiss on the messy mop of hair before silently walking off to their bathroom for a warm shower.

The silence in the living room grew distressing the longer Yoongi stayed sat on the couch. That was not how he had wanted the night to end; with Hoseok annoyed at him. All he wanted was to share some quality one-on-one time with his boyfriend before they went to bed. But somehow, he had done something wrong. He didn't know what. All he had done was try and cuddle with Hoseok. His mind tried to recall if it was something he'd said or done. Perhaps the younger just wasn't in the mood for affection.

With a sigh, Yoongi pushed himself up off of the couch and stumbled his way back to the balcony. He closed the glass door behind him to prevent the cigarette smoke from entering the apartment and sat back down in his previous spot. His glossy eyes stared up into the calm night sky as he took sip after sip of his drink until it was all gone. He discarded the bottle off to the side as he fetched his lighter and cigarette packet from his pocket.

Dejected brown eyes watched the orange flicker of the lighter as he lit up the only thing that could bring him some form of comfort in that moment. The second the sharp sting hit his lungs, he felt his emotions start to ease. But of course it wasn't enough to stop the sudden rush of intrusive thoughts that plagued his mind.

Why was he such a horrible boyfriend to the sweetest human to ever exist? Why didn't he see earlier that Hoseok was exhausted after working all day? If only he had just saved the song for another time and allowed the younger to rest. He was of course the one working day after day to make ends meet for them. And Yoongi had been so selfish, so self-centred, that he couldn't put the needs of his wonderful boyfriend before his own.

Yoongi lent his forehead against the cool glass panel as a heavy sigh left his trembling lips. He didn't realise he had started to cry until a single tear splashed on the back of his right hand that loosely held the cigarette to his lips. How pathetic. Hoseok deserved so much better than what he had to offer. Hoseok deserved the world. He deserved to be treated like a king. Yet his sorry ass couldn't do that. He was absolutely pathetic. He knew deep down that he didn't deserve Hoseok one bit.
