006 Alone

June 23 (couple weeks after school ended)

Theodosia POV

I'm moving. I'm going to California. My mom says it's for work, but she barely works. She's almost never at work. She isn't always home either. That's why I hang out with Philip so much.

Speaking of, I don't want to move. I want to stay here with Philip. He's my best friend. It's hard for me to make friends. Philip was some kind of magic. Like a fairy.

Today I went to his house to tell him. It's the most important thing in my life right now (because you're eight but ok) because I have nothing else to do. I don't do sports or afterschool activities. I don't have any other friends.

When he opened the door, he immediately exclaimed, "Theo!" Then he hugged me and welcomed me into his house.

"Hey Pip!"

"How's your summer?"

"Not very good," I said. He tilted his head to the side, so I continued, "I'm moving to California. My mom says it's for her work, but I don't think so."

"Oh." He frowned slightly. "California? That's all the way on the other side of the country! The other shining sea!"

"I know. I got an A+ on the geography quiz."

"Aw. I got an A- on that."

"Well I don't want to move. I want to stay here with you. You're my best friend."

"Really?"

"Yeah."

Philip POV

I'm Theo's best friend! She's mine too. But she's moving. How can we be best friends if she leaves and goes all the way to California?

"You're my best friend too," I said.

"Really?"

"Of course."

I hugged her and reared up. She did the same. This is one of the most important thins going on in my life right now. Theo's my only actual friend.

She left the next day in the morning. I think. I walked to her house in the afternoon and didn't see her car so I figured.

I'm upset. This makes me really sad. I miss my friend. What am I going to do at school now?

"Hey Phil, are they gone?"

"Yeah."

"Oh." Dad sat next to me on my bed. "You okay? I know you guys were really close."

"I guess so."

"Okay."
