Philip POV

Hi! I'm Philip. I'm a new character in the story, so I'll introduce myself.

(hehe)

I just turned nine years old a couple months ago. I like to write, just like my dad, especially poetry. I like animals like my other dad. I'm starting fourth grade today and I'm kind of nervous. Elementary school has so many grades and people of different ages. One way you look, there are a bunch of kindergarteners and the other way, you see fifth and sixth graders who are so much bigger than you. It's nerve wracking.

I'm scared because some of my friends moved away so now I'm kind of alone. Now I need to make new ones. Plus, I heard a lot of new kids moved here this year which is scary. I don't know them, no one else does either. What if they kill us all?

What if my teacher is super mean? What if the lessons are hard? Will people like me?

"Phil, don't worry. You'll be fine. School's fun," said my dad. (Dad=John)

"Your school experience won't be nearly as bad as mine.." said Pa, my other dad. (Pa=Alex heh)

Dad elbowed Pa under the table so I wouldn't see. He failed. Hahhahahahhhahha.

"Why? What happened?" I asked.

"Never mind."

Great. There are no open seats on the bus. Mostly just one person sitting in their own seat with their backpack where someone else should be. I guess I'll sit here. This girl seems nice.

"Can I sit with you? No one else is, um-"

"Sure." She smiled, then looked out the window.

"What's your name?"

"I'm Theodosia. You can call me Theo."

"I like your name. I'm Philip. You can call me anything."

"Thanks. And alright then, Pip."

"Pip, huh."

"Yeah." She smiled again.

Theodosia is eight years old. She's one of the kids who just moved here. She skipped third grade because she's really smart. That's why she's a year younger than most of the other fourth graders.

It turns out we're in the same class. And we're table partners. And I made a friend!
