"Do you... Recognise it yet?" Thankfully, the shorter man gently nodded as a brief gust of wind swept through them, carelessly rousing the billions of bushes and other leafy plants resting in the area.
"I think so. This is that park that we used to play in, right?" Edgeworth cast a warm, reminiscent, smile.
"Yes. It is."
"It hasn't changed one bit," The taller man subtly indicated to a plainer section of the park, upon an uphill slope, using a curt nod, both men then languidly strolling down the pebbled path, unable to make out much more than the dark silhouettes of trees, crowded, in the far distance.
"We used to spend so much time here." Another remark from the silvery-haired man as they walked out onto the vast expanse of grass before them thoughtlessly, the sea of an inconceivably dark shade of navy's glistening embellishments twinkling at them from an enticing realm. They stopped to admire.
"Do you remember when all that drama between you and Larry had started, so you took me here to rant about it to me?" Phoenix couldn't stifle his incessant guffawing - for it really, really, couldn't be classified as laughter, as humorous as it was -, causing blemishes of bright crimson to appear upon Edgeworth's pale flesh;
"How about we recall something more... Wholesome. Such as when we used to play house and you would do the cooking." The defence attorney spluttered at that;
"Right! Like, when we had to evacuate the 'house' because the toast caught fire!" Even the silvery-haired man smiled at that. The faces upon the unsuspecting members of public as two screeching children, for some unknown reason, frantically sprinted away from the bustling park simultaneously had been priceless.
"Or, perhaps, when we used to sneak out of our houses late at night in order to gaze at the stars upon this very hill," Wary glances at the shorter man were stolen by a pair of sleek grey eyes after their taller owner's incredibly risky addition to the conversation...

Which, of course, his companion was - or, at least, pretended to be - oblivious to.

"Yeah, that used to be so fun. Just us," Phoenix displayed a small smile to Edgeworth as their methods of vision locked, all that they could see quickly morphing into the way that the meagre light illuminated the other's dazzling assets.
"Phoenix..." The taller man faintly whispered as his paler, slimmer hand reached out for its almost-antithesis; a slightly more tanned and slightly larger hand - which, to his pleasant surprise, was not immediately pulled away (in fact, it willingly allowed itself to be welcomed into a warm, tangled embrace of fingers). Phoenix continued to lock eyes with Edgeworth.
"Phoenix, I..." The prosecutor swallowed whatever meagre amount of saliva seemed to have accumulated within the unusually moisture-less orifice that was his mouth - seriously, when had his throat gotten so dry? It was at this distinct moment that the defence attorney's ocean blue, glistening eyes - more promising, more gorgeous than any stars emitting welcoming glows in the awe-inspiring stratosphere - glassed over and that comfortable heat being shared in that friendly embrace was lost, one part of the whole pulling away.
"We shouldn't be holding hands. We're not a couple," Rosy lips apologetically whispered, dulling blue eyes stopped reaching out and the silver ones followed suit.
"When I first defended you in that class trial, I knew you were innocent."
"Huh?"
"I trusted you. I could tell you were telling the truth before I'd ever even held a conversation with you," The defence attorney fell silent, glancing at his companion - who appeared to be focused on the constellations watching over them, emphatically blinking.
"You were my first proper friend. The first person I'd met who I knew I could trust." Edgeworth turned to the shorter man;
"Why do you think that is?"
"W-What?"
"Why do you think I instinctively trusted you?" Blinking blue eyes.
"I-uh... Because there was no proof that I'd stolen your lunch money?"
"That... Is a very diplomatic answer, but an incorrect one, nonetheless. It was because you were the first to listen to me, to open yourself up to me," Edgeworth turned back to the stars.
"You understood me, Phoenix, when no one else could."
"You're giving me too much credit," The defence attorney produced a minuscule smile, chuckling softly as the prosecutor curtly shook his head with a stern response;
"No, I'm not. You sympathised with me, trusted me with your own secrets. Nobody else ever did that for me."
"Larry was a good friend, too,"
"Yes, but he was different to you; everyone was different to you. Larry didn't understand me like you did."

Blue eyes caught silver ones for a few stagnant seconds, promptly losing height as their owner progressed downwards until they were submerged within the rugged, natural forestry of the uneven grass, gazing up above the makeshift canopies at the twinkling array of lights above them.
"You changed your entire career for me... And, even when I didn't reciprocate any friendly behaviour, you continued to shower me with your kindness," The taller man joined the other upon the grass.
"You let me discover my purpose. Why I'm a prosecutor, what it means to be... Here. And what did I do for you in return?" Edgeworth openly stared at his companion now, his eyes reflecting so many specks of light that his look could only be described by the adjective of admiration.
"You made me happy." Rosebud lips tentatively opened in order to pollinate the air with one of the many thoughts concealed within.
"No, I didn't,"
"You did!" The prosecutor sighed, hugging his knees closer to his chest;
"I let you think I was dead because of... How I felt about you. I left you all alone. I betrayed you, Phoenix. After everything you did for me, I betrayed you." The shorter man's cheeks reddened, emitting a warm pink glow that could only be translated by the human eye to be some form of intense blush.
"I-I know you did that. But you came back for me!"
"Hm?"
"When I fell off of that bridge... You came back for me."
"But I left you all alone again after that, didn't I?" Edgeworth blinked, realising exactly how negative an image of himself he'd been painting..

.. And how that didn't exactly work in his favour.

"But you made me happy, Miles! You changed for the better, and you cared. You cared about me. That made me-"

Phoenix also blinked, abruptly freezing mid-sentence as his catastrophic mistakes swung a hefty blow straight to his heart.
