The Football Game - Chapter 39

- Wednesday  Morning -

I had woken up about 25 minutes ago. I already got ready for the day and ate my breakfast. For breakfast, I stuck to the basic cereal. Today, I'm wearing a coral-colored tank top with my ripped jean shorts.

Right now, Sarah and I are walking to the bus stop.

"Well, today is going to be the first day of school without Blake or Josh," I said. "Yeah. By the way, how are you feeling?" Sarah asked she looked at me with a concerned look. "I mean, besides the fact that the one person I actually really liked since Josh turned out to be a crazy psychopath. So now he's my physco ex-boyfriend. Yeah,  I'm doing  just great." I said sarcastically.

Sarah could tell I was being sarcastic. She understood and nodded her head. We finally got to the bus stop right on time, as the bus pulled up. Sarah and I sat in our usual seats towards the middle of the bus.

We arrived at Oakwood High school, ten minutes later.

We greeted Jake and Ashton. We all walked to our lockers, grabbed our textbooks and supplies and went to our classes.

The entire day I had to tell myself not to think about Josh or Blake. Because, I'm already hurt and broken. And I can't let that happen again. But, the truth is I really like Nate Cross. He's super hot, and he's nice. I don't know if I can just fall for another guy that easily. Can I?  It's at times like this when I want help from Cupid.

I think I should tell Sarah that I like Nate.

At lunch, I told her. She was excited she said that I shouldn't worry, and that I should give him a chance. After all, he is the one who saved me from Blake...twice!

Soon enough, school was over. I had just remembered that yesterday, Nate asked me to go to the football game and I said yes. Sarah, Ashton, and Jake wanted to come with so we all walked to the football field towards the back of the school.

But, I didn't see Nate anywhere. Weird.

We sat down in the middle of the bleachers to get a good view. On my right, Sarah and Ashton were sitting together, they were holding hands. Sarah was sitting next to me, and Ashton was next to her. On my left, Jake was sitting next to me.

Cheerleaders were cheering for our football players to come out to the field. A few moments later, they ran out of the doors and the quarterback ran through a banner. Our school mascot was dancing. It was pretty funny actually.

The game had just started. "Nate where are you?" I whispered to myself.

An hour later, and still Nate isn't here. The game was now over, and our school won. The quarterback motioned a hand for me to come over to him. He still had his helmet on so I couldn't see who it is. Who is he? Why do they want to see me?

"Hey, Sarah I'll be back," I said. "Wait, where are you going?" She asked. "The quarterback wants to talk to me, I don't know why," I said. "Okay, just be careful," Sarah said. "Don't worry, I will," I said. Then, I walked down the bleacher stairs. Now, I was standing face to face with the quarterback.

It started to rain. Oh, no! I don't like standing in puddles. I like standing in the rain, but not in puddles. Because then my shoes will get all spongy and I jus don't like it.

Then, he took his helmet off. My jaw dropped. "Nate?" I asked. "Yep, it's me." He said. "Why didn't you tell me you were the quarterback?" I asked him. "Well, I didn't tell you because I was scared you wouldn't like me," he said. "I like you, Grace, I like you a lot." Nate said.

"Really?" I asked. "Yes really," He continued. "Well, I really like you too," I said. "Do I have permission to kiss you?" He asked. "Most definitely," I said. He cupped my face in his hands and leaned in. I leaned in as well. Our faces were inches apart until our lips touched. People were left in awe. I could even hear Sarah squealing. It was so funny and adorable at the same time.

And there we were, Nate Cross and Grace Walker kissing in the rain.

It was pretty romantic.

What seemed like forever, we finally pulled away. We smiled at each other.

"Grace, will you go out with me?" Nate asked. "Yes!" I said. He smiled, and we kissed again.

"When?" I asked. "Does Friday after school work for you?"

"Sure," I said.
