Title: Tears in Rain
Mature: yes, mature themes
Cover and Title: 4/5
The cover was pretty, reminding me of a sort of poetry book. The title fits well, but it doesn't necessarily pop. But it's all very aesthetic.
Blurb: 3/5
Nice, but too wordy. There was nothing that grabbed my attention, no sense of urgency. It felt like a prologue, which is fine, but that isn't the role of the blurb.
First Impressions: 3/5
I say this a lot, but I don't ever like all the stuff I have to scroll through before I get to the story, like authors notes or casts and aesthetic etc. Most people don't actually ever read them and while they're interesting, to the majority of reader, it's just busy work—precious time wasted when every second is precious to gain a reader's attention.
Characters: 4/5
The characters are all nice. I really like Ari's inner monologue, something a lot of us can—unfortunately—relate to.
I did find it note worthy that the first three real characters we're introduced to all have names that start with A. This can get a bit confusing to a less careful reader because it's too soon to base the characters on much besides their names, so it might be a good idea to vary it. But that's just a little suggestion.
Grammar: 5/5
I saw no issues.
Plot: 4/5
Now, realistic fiction isn't my forte. It always comes off a bit slow to me, so everything I say here should be taken with a grain of salt. But I kept feeling like something needed to happen. And yes, things did happen, but like in the first chapter, I wanted something more than made me need to see what comes next.
Overall: 3.8/5 or 23/30
