It was pure chaos.

By the time that Natasha and Clint had found the cabin, the field was a giant fray of armed zombie soldiers.

They didn't even have time to breath as the horde descended upon them.

Nat aimed her gun, squeezing the trigger numerous times as each one of the Anwar soldiers fell down. They made no sound when they fell, their eyes glassy as they were in life.

"What the hell?!" Clint shouted.

"Mays's dad," Tony said over the comms. "Looks like someone has daddy issues."

"Not the time, Stark!" Cap said as he kicked one of the soldiers in the chest. Bucky wasn't too far behind him as he took on multiple assailants with guns.

They didn't want to admit it, but it felt as if they had been fighting one of Ultron's sentinels. Only this time they were human.

"Where's Maya?" Bucky asked. "Kid has a shit ton of explaining to do."

"No kidding."

********

I was on the heels of Miriam as she yelled out an order at the small legion of men. The Anwar soldiers stood guard as they looked at me with their glassy inhuman eyes.

Whatever my father did with my blood, this was the end result.

Miriam was past the clearing of the trees, disappearing into the woods without even looking back. I knew she had an escape plan in case things went south.

I wouldn't let her get away again.

A group of Anwar soldiers broke formation, coming at me with their guns. I didn't even give them time, I raised my hand crushing them both literally and metaphorically. Some might say that I just murdered these people. I have news for you, these aren't people anymore. They weren't dead but they weren't alive and whatever they were, I considered it as putting them out of their misery.

I felt a whoosh as the soldier who was gonna shoot me from behind was picked up into the air by a familiar set of wings.

"Glad to see you here!" I said to Sam.

"Couldn't let you have all the fun!"

"I'm in trouble, aren't I?" I asked sheepishly.

"No kidding." I grabbed one of the Anwar soldiers flipping her over onto her back. "I'm going after Miriam, she controls them. If I can stop her these guys will probably drop dead!"

It sucked ass that I didn't have a comm unit on me. It would've been more helpful if I didn't have to relay all my info to Sam as well as fight off a horde of Anwar Clan soldiers.

One tried to snap their teeth at me. I kicked them in the mouth.

"Maya, duck!"

I hit the ground as Sam's wings extended out swiping the soldiers surrounding us onto their asses. It passed over my hair with a mighty whoosh.

"Go!" Sam yelled as he pulled me up.

I silently thanked Sam as I ran jumping over the dead soldiers who littered the field like lifeless dolls.

There was one heartbeat that I could feel beating with mine. It was irregular and fast.

Miriam.

The woods were hard to navigate as I jumped over several logs and ducked multiple times underneath several branches before I came to a trail. The foot prints were still fresh in the mud meaning that she couldn't have gotten too far ahead of me.

I felt tired but I wasn't down yet. I knew I was skirting the edge of my powers but I just couldn't stop.

Moms face flashed before my eyes.

I couldn't put her in danger again. I've said it multiple times over and over but this ends. Amid is dead and my father is knocked out cold but if Miriam escapes then she'll never be safe.

I looked down at the blade in my chest. I wasn't shocked about the blade but rather who's hand held that blade.

"Loki....." I chocked out as my knees started giving out. "Why?"

He twisted the blade sharply in my chest and then pulling it out of me. I couldn't feel the blood gushing out but I could definitely see it in the pale light of the moon.
I was loosing way too much blood and I didn't have enough energy to even use my powers. I was bleeding out and I knew that if my healing factor didn't take effect that I would die in the next couple minutes.

As I fell forward I tonight thought, 'This is it. This is how I die.'

I looked up at Loki as he stared back at my crumpled form
without any hint of remorse in his eyes, only a vicious grin that bled into his unusual blue eyes.

My eyes drifted close and I felt cold as if death had gripped my heart in his hands.

------------

He saw Maya go down across the field , his name on her lips as she looked up. Then she fell, failing to move and Loki felt an unholy feeling of rage and darkness rising.

He was too late.

He had failed another person in his life once again.

"Maya!" Loki was the first to break the silence. "Get away from her!"

"So you're him?" Miriam said, wiping away the blood from the knife. She stood arrogantly in front of his, blocking his path. "The great master of lies and trickery. Well...it's an honor to meet you I suppose."

Loki knew that the others were lurking in the trees waiting for him to make his move. Battling whatever those things were had slowed him down yet he had broken through their ranks regardless. He had magic but it would be unwise to take on multiple assailants at once. Maya was dead at this point or at least close to it and if he had any chance of saving her he would have to kill this witch.

"You're Snow White." Loki said, keeping his eyes trained on Miriam as she stepped over Maya and walked toward him.

This wasn't the time for him to grieve but to fight. He could grieve when it was over and revenge had been taken.

Miriam stood out starkly against the blue light of the clearing in her white outfit. The blood stains on her face and coat gave a whole new meaning to Snow White.

Loki glanced down at Maya to see if her chest was moving but it was hard to see with all that blood.

"Stand down, Mortal. Compared to me you're nothing. I'm a god, you're just a freak of nature with so called powers." Loki scoffed, looking Miriam dead in the eye. "I can crush you like a boot crushes an ant."

"I can see why my sister likes you. Sorry, liked. I suppose we can use past tense now." Miriam said sarcastically as she smiled, showing off her pearly white teeth. "So how about it, pretty boy? Are we gonna fight or flirt? I have plans to attend to. Taking over the world isn't easy, you know. Daddy dearest is gone and  Big brother is finally out of the way thanks to you."

"I have better things to do than flirt with a two bit copy of me." Loki pulled out his twin daggers that were neatly hidden. "You're good but I'm better."

"Do you think I'm pretty?" Miriam asked as pointed the knife at him. "It's okay. I have that effect on everybody. You can flirt with me, it's fine."

"This is not the appropriate time. I'm trying to murder you." He said flatly.

"But you were flirting with me."

"I flirt with Maya too. I'm Loki, God of mischief and lies, I flirt with everyone!" Loki said exasperated rolling his eyes. "Less Flirt, more fight."

"Okay then," Miriam charged at Loki, her knife held high! She let out a mighty screech as she tried to stab him.

"Fight me, pretty boy!"

----------

By the shack, the battle raged between the Anwar Clan and the Avengers. Both sides equally matched but equally tired.

"Where's Maya?!" Natasha yelled over the fray.

"Busy over here!" Clint yelled back. "Bucky, Steve. Find her yet?"

"No." Steve said through the comms. "What about the others?"

"Found them!" Stark said. "Well.....two of them. No sign of the other girl."

"She's heading towards the helicopter," Loki's voice rang through the comms. "Maya is mint too far. Thor, her father is in the cabin. Make sure he doesn't leave."

"Gladly," Thor said summoning his hammer. "For Maya!" He yelled as he charged at the cabin summoning down a bolt of lightening to blow away the soldiers in his path.

----------

I felt the warmth creep back. It started in my finger tips slowly traveling through my arm until it reached my chest. Then it drifted through my veins to the rest of my body. I could feel the wound closing up as my heart steadily increased.

It hurt to breath and it hurt equally to move.

I could hear Loki faintly. Everything was too distorted and my visions took some time to return.

When the blurs focused, I saw Loki and Miriam locked in a duel. I could hear Miriam screech like an unholy demon as Loki easily countered her parries.

Miriam had taught me how to fight with weapons. I knew every move, even the dirty ones. The first day I had found the Anwar Clan, she told me I wouldn't survive with just my powers alone. I suppose she was right but.......

It didn't seem to matter at the moment.

Everything hurt.

I reached my arm our to feel her heartbeat. I could sense it, it fluttered like an angry humming bird but that was it. I couldn't still her heart if I wanted to. Whatever was coated on the blade made me unable to use my powers but it didn't stop my healing factor.

The wound in my chest healed slowly but I didn't have time. Miriam was mine and if anyone was going to kill her, it was going to me. Like hell I'll let Loki have all the glory.

I crawled over to get the knife that Loki had given me. I wrapped my fingers around the hilt. I dig the blade on the ground using it as a crutch go stand on my knees. Those two were still fighting each other, focusing on nothing but killing each other as I stood on my feet.

The world was slightly out of focus like a broken camera. There was a fuzzy black outline that made it hard to focus as I stumbled my way to them, the dagger in my hand. My vision went red as I felt blood trickle from the corner of my mouth.

Oh gods, give me strength. Just for a little while more.

---------------

"What's the matter, pretty boy?" Miriam asked Loki as she locked blades with him. "Getting tired yet?"

"Please," Loki firmly kicked her in chest satisfied with the crack he heard. "I should be asking you that."

Miriam fell to the ground, clutching her side. She seethed as she got up glaring at Loki so hard he thought her eyes were going to catch on fire. Her eyes turned white as she summoned her illusions.

Loki could see the dark creeping up around him. He simply waved his hand, sending them away as if they had been a rather annoying fly that buzzed around his head.

"What?" Miriam hissed as her eyes glowed brighter. "Why the--?"

"You may be a master of illusions," Loki said taking a step closer. "But as I said before, I am the God of Mischief."

Miriam bristled visibly at his remarks as he dismissed her.

She lunged at him with ferocity. For a second he could see Maya in the way she fought with a knife. So this was where she learned how to fight.

'No wonder her technique is lacking,' Loki thought. 'If Maya survives this, I'll teach her how to properly use a blade.'

Miriam had parried Loki's blades, digging her heels into the ground as she glared past him at the helicopter. She was like a caged and desperate animal. She just wanted to get away but she just murdered his partner and he wasn't going to give her the option of living a long life.

He pushed her off, bringing his blade down to slice her back. She hissed as she fell forward into the grass.

She laid still, her blade feet away from her. Miriam crawled over to grab it before Loki could grab her hair and slit her throat. She squirmed away from his grasp rolling in the grass.

Her fingers wrapped around the hilt as she got back up clutching her sides. She eyed the chopper behind Loki and wondered if she should've played her cards better. It couldn't end here, there's was so much to do!

She gambled on her last trick as she summoned her powers focusing on Loki. This was something more powerful that she had ever down and if it worked, she would live. Her eyes turned an unholy white as Loki saw the demon that rested underneath those pristine white clothes.

This being of darkness rushed toward him, threatening to engulf him in its massive jaws. He brought his blade up in a arc splitting its belly and letting the grass stain a brilliant red with its blood.

He turned back to Miriam realizing that she reeled her arm back to throw the blade that was aimed right towards him.

Before Loki could raise his hand to stop her, she went still and her arm went slack. Miriam's expression morphed into anger and then into shock as she saw the blood spill from the wound in her chest.

Maya stood behind her, weak and exhausted as she twisted the blade of and brought it back down to stab her sister again. She ignored the screams that Miriam let out as she fell. She wrenched the blade out and stabbed her again and again and again until Miriam's screams had ceased and her blood covered the grass turning it into an odd shade of brown.

"Maya!" Loki rushed to her, pulling her away from her sisters body.

He pulled the knife away from her hands as she collapsed in his arms. Tears dotted the corner of her eyes as she looked up at him with angry brown eyes.

It was over for her. It was finally over.

*********

Miriam was dead, I made sure this time. I could feel her heart beat, and it was as still as the wind.

I opened my eyes to see Loki, his eyes green instead of blue. My head rested on his lap as he placed both hands on the side of my head, I felt a lot more sleepier. I had lost some blood and the shock was starting to wear off.

"How bad?" I asked, my voice coming out a hoarse whisper.

"Shut up, Maya." Loki said through clenched teeth. He narrowed his eyes in concentration. "You've lost too much blood."

"I'll be okay." I lifted my head up to look at the damage.

"Don't speak," Loki gently pushed my head down. "Conserve your energy."

I would've laughed but it hurt to do so. I lifted my hand up and placed it over Loki's hand. His skin was warm instead of his usual cold and I was wondering if it was my nerves firing off or the effects of magic on me.

"Thank you." I said weakly. "But I'm afraid it's not quite over."

"You'll die." He said, realizing that I was going back to kill my father. "And I've just spent a majority of my power healing you."

"This is something I have to---"

I started coughing violently, the taste of iron coating my tongue. Loki quickly sat me up so I wouldn't choke on the blood. Oh, this was bad. I was already coughing up massive quantities of blood.

"Absolutely not." He hissed observing the blood that now coated the grass. I leaned my head against his shoulder as I stopped coughing. "You're not strong enough. Not this time. Accept it."

"Harsh."

"You'll die!"

"I have to end it!" I raised my voice immediately regretting it. "This is my responsibility!"

"Not everything is on your shoulders, you stupid human!" Loki growled as his eyes bore down at me. "Let us help you, that's why we're here! Let me help you, Maya."

I fell forwards towards Loki who had caught me quickly as I started to cough again. He was right though but I didn't want to accept it. He ran his fingers through my hair, whispering something I could catch. I felt even more tired as my eyes grew heavy and then I closed my eyes, drifting away to sleep.

"Sleep for now, Maya." I heard him say. "Just sleep for now, darling. Your fight is over."

No it's not, I wanted to say but it already was.
