~Twelve~ Part Three

Vera
It turns out keeping the illegal documents you have been hoarding in your binder while you take a snooze is a very, very bad idea. Vera came to this conclusion as she was groggily trying to explain her way out of the multiple papers that had fell out of her binder while she slept. Whoops...
The interrogation light above her head didn't help the issue. Nor did the fact that every time she lied the machine she was currently connected to would buzz and an electric shock would pulse through her skull. It hurt... After multiple lies she was thrown into a dark cell in the basement of the barracks. There was water leaking in a corner and a musty smell about it. One look told her she was not alone, as a pair of crimson eyes stared at her harshly in the cell.
"Wha... who are you..?" She muttered unintelligibly as the guy, about her age yet taller, studied her silently.
He looked like he could tear out her throat and that made her a little nervous about sharing a cell with him. She quickly turned away from the boy and surveyed the cell for ways out. The thoughts of others never said anything about how to escape- why would they anyway?
She was slowly pacing towards the corner when she realized a small girl huddled in the corner. Her face was buried in her knees and she was crying. Suddenly it seemed less important to Vera for her to be escaping. She sat down beside her and gently put her hand on the girl's shoulder. She looked up, her scared eyes giving away her current state.
"Are you okay?" She asked softly.
"N-no..." she said. Wouldn't say anything else so Vera quickly tapped into her brain and found out something- this girl was on death roll. And it was because she had fire powers? She looked at the little girl and smiled wryly.
"I'm like you too. I have a power."
At this the girl looked up surprised. She quickly realized what Vera's power was. Instead of speaking the girl held out her palm and a flame flickered out from them. Vera gasped. It was so... beautiful!
"Hello?" Said a voice.
Another person. Vera hadn't picked up on his quiet thoughts until now.
"Who are you?" She asked. He sighed.
"That isn't important. What is important is that there are more people here. If you really want to know, my name is Eli."
"Eli..." Vera breathed to herself.
She tried to hear the thoughts of the other people but doing that drained a lot of energy and usually didn't work. She could still feel the presence of the others but couldn't tell who they were, or why they were here.
Chaos
For a while the boy sat quietly and just listened to the voices that surrounded him. He was slowly but surely coming up with a way to escape, but would he take the others with him? Highly doubting that the effort would be worth it, he decided a single person plan would be all he needed. The dim light in the place he currently found himself was annoyingly dark so he was unable to see the other captors
"I'm Chaos." He finally piped up. "I don't know why I am here." Okay, that part was a lie...
"Sure you do." An even voice from the cell across from him said. "You can fly, I can read minds, okay? You want to escape, but you know you can't alone." Chaos gaped at the voice. How...
"It's just what I do." She said. He knew she was smirking, even though it was dark in the cells.
"So." Chaos said. "How many people are actually in here. And... what signs are you?" He asked. Time to get outta here.
"I'm Vera,"  Said the mind reader from before. "And I'm an Aries."
"Chaos, Taurus. And fun-fact; I fly." He heard a few gasps and was satisfied by his 'popularity' with the prisoners.
"I'm Eli, and a Gemini. My power is controlling the earth, to an extent. I cannot make it explode, but if you want a mini earthquake, just ask me." More people gasped.
"My name is Bianca, I'm a cancer, and I can shift my appearance." By now everyone had gotten semi- used to the whole power thing and less people seemed surprised.
"Reed. Leo. I can camouflage myself."
"Haylee, Ima Pisces. I can control fire... but I'm not that good."
"Libra, Tyra, self-heal."
"I'm Celeste, a Sagittarius, and I can... well... use light." She said unsurely.
"Harkyn, a Capricorn. And if you intend to use the knowledge of my power against me, know that know yours too." He said untrustworthily. "A shapeshifter."
A cautious voice spoke up from the corner next. "I'm Jimi, an Aquarius. I can heal myself."
"Leif, a Virgo, I can control... well water I guess..?" It came out as a mini question, as if he wasn't even sure what his power was.
Suddenly the entire room burst out in excited chatter as the cell mates figured out what they all were.
"Were we meant to be a team?" Came Haylee's voice. "'Cause I'm ready to get the heck out of here." She said. She really did sound powerful. Chaos decided for the moment he might as well join forces with these people. For the moment...
Eli
Eli"s heart was beating out of his chest, but not because he wasn't alone. He had known that long ago. This was different, something was all off. Suddenly it dawned on him what was so off. What were the possibility of there being exactly twelve gifted children in a dungeon-like jail? Almost zero. He spoke up as the room seemed to hush a little, "Quit eavesdropping!" He shouted to the end of the cells and a younger man started chuckling. It sent chills down his spine and left the entire jail silent.
"Vera, can you get in his thoughts?" He asked hopefully to her.
"No..." she replied after a few moments. "Well, I can but it's... empty." She whispered, bewildered. "He seems bad, but there is something missing so I can't be sure."
A few moments of whispers later and a loud bang was heard from that side of the cells and a scream echoed out.
"I will get out of here, and you will help me." He said cooly to Celeste, while she struggled to break free. "He's... strangling... me.... help!" She choked out, before he threw her to the ground. ""Haylee! You can do this!" He encouraged the girl. "Just aim, and fire." He told her as she lifted her palm up and a ball of flame bursted to life.
"What if I miss?" She asked nervously, trying as best as she could to focus on the man in the now fighting duo. Celeste was losing terribly and there wasn't much time before her injuries became fatal.
"What if I miss?" Haylee asked, now breathing heavily as she controlled the flame in her hands.
"Well, just don't, Haylee. Please don't..."
