Trapped here.
Floating.
Subtle peace.
Subtle pain.
They take me out.
They make me run, swim, climb, jump.
They put needles in me and test me.
Then I am back here.
Floating in the water.
On display.
A mermaid.
That is what they call me.
I have nothing to do but remember
Nothing to feel but water.
I stay here.
I have never tried to leave.
All I do is listen to the washing of the wave, and feel the cool water on my skin.

Ash
I walk into the aquarium for the third time this week. It may seem like an odd thing for a seventeen year old kid to do, but I'm not here to look at the fishies- well... as a marine biologist I guess you could say I look at the fishies...
Anyway, this is my third trip and excitement is buzzing through my veins. Today, after two interviews, a background check, and several tests, I come to be told wether or not I got the job. I am not too confident. All my resume said was college and BigY. That's so reassuring.
Walking past the displays I can't wait to get started. If things go through I start immediately, and I want so bad to see the jelly fish! I want to see how they react and adapt to substances, plus find out what chemicals they have that are helpful to us.
I step into the office and Mr.Crumpet (I an so so sorry sir, I used my word suggestions to give you a name) looked grim.
Oh great. With that look on his face there is no way I can get in...
"Hello, sir!" I said with as much enthusiasm as I could muster.
"Mr.... Ash? Is it?" He asked.
Wow... I was here yesterday and he doesn't remember my name?!? NOT a good sign.
"Yup! That's me" I said. My chipper tone didn't even put a dent in the expression of disappointment on his face.
"Mr.Ash, sir, I am sad to say that you got the job."
His face broke out in a smile and he chuckled.
"I can't believe you would doubt yourself, but from the look on your face you thought this job wasn't yours!" He exclaimed.
"O-oh."
Waiit. WHAT?!? THE JOB IS MINE?!?
"YES" I yelled and that made Mr.Crumpet laugh even harder. He was a great boss already.
"Now, Ash. By the looks of your testing it seems you will be working on collecting data from...
Ah! Here it is. The mermaid."
All of a sudden my heart dropped to the floor. How was I supposed to experiment on a girl?!?
