Chapter One
❀Rose'sPOV❀
"No Ms. Philbert, your answer is the one incorrect, 'X' is equaled to y/2^7 multiplied by -6.5," I say, arguing with my Math teacher that her answer was incorrect. There was no way in me being wrong. I mean, I'm a Math geek.
"Oh my, you're right Rose. Thank you for your outstanding contribution to the class," She replies, already wiping off the white board. A soft smile was on her 45 year old face.
Taking my seat, I then tried making myself small. It's true that I practically made a huge scene from my seat but that was the most I could do. In class I felt supreme and no one could compete with me here. Other than when I am engaged with my studies, I'm the ant.
The ant everyone makes it their duty to step on; this one ant which is constantly battered around for being in existence, the ant who is really tired of how persons treated her. Why can't I be like the average kids?Be normal and have a high self-esteem?
Sigh, maybe it was just not meant to be. I mean, I do live a shitty life nonetheless.
My attention was then brought back to the class when I felt a few paper balls making contact with the back of my head. There was no need for me to turn back because I already knew they would send different stuff at my face instead if I did.
"Be more like Rose my ass. She's a sorry excuse for a human being."
"I know, right? Who would want to be a nerd like her; disgusting!"
"Why does she even attend our school? We all know that she can't afford to be here."
All the murmuring about me became louder and more persons joined in speaking. Yes, I'm used to it but that doesn't mean that it didn't hurt me still. Every time they bad talked me, they do it near me as if I'm not even around. If you think they only have the courage to say it behind my back, then, you're wrong.
I'm the target at this school and I don't even know why I chose here of all places to apply for a scholarship. I just thought that the students here would at least be a little different from my old schools.
Pling!
Sound of the bell echoes through the class but Ms. Philbert's voice overpowered it for some reason. "Students don't forget your SBA which is due on Friday, two days from now. You all should be like or take the example from Rose and give in your assignments before the due dates."
She gained many groans, eye rolls and annoyed comments from the class. There was no way in hell that I was getting up from my seat together with everyone else. It was time for lunch and the end to the morning periods so this meant that I would get a taste of what I earned during those periods for sure. I better make myself invisible on my way out.
My bag was packed quickly as I rushed out of my seat. I was going to make a run for it, the run for my life. "Have a great lunch Ms. Philbert!" I said to the teacher before making my speedy escape. She wishes me the same but I didn't even have time to thank her because I was already running down the hallway.
The entrance of the school was so close and yet still so far away. I needed to make it before they realized I wasn't coming to the cafeteria for lunch. God, if you love me, you'd spare me this time-
Someone's strong hand grabbed hold of the back of my baggy sweater and pulled me back. The weight of my body was no longer balanced causing me to land directly on my back. I could swear I heard a crack. I was in pain, my bones felt like they were being grinded against the cold tiles.
My eyes were closed, trying my best to not cry at the pain I was in. I tried to hold in the tears, seeing that I was so close in escaping. One kick to the stomach had me crutching for my guts. Another one to my back almost had me screaming but I knew if I made any sound they would deal with me after school also and I for one didn't want that.
"You bitch, how dare you take my girlfriend's spotlight during her classes, huh?" Cole questions angrily as he continued to beat me up. At this moment I was crying silently. All I needed to do was take the agony until they were done.
"Yeah, Arianna said you corrected her during Biology. No-one corrects my girlfriend but me," Zach roared, giving me his share if kicks and punches.
Why would guys hit a girl that way? You may ask, well it was because their girlfriends didn't want to break a nail or do too much work. Plus, Tiffany, Cole's girlfriend is the principal's daughter so she can't really do anything bad when her mother is around.
"Now you got what you deserved," Cole comments as Zach gives me one last kick before they walked away to wherever.
My body felt like a lump of dead flesh because I was in a paralyzing suffering. My head hurt even more than my body, I always had a migraine every time I would cry. Pathetic, I know, you don't need to tell me.
I was lying in the middle of the hallway on my side. No one passed by because it was only a few minutes since the bell rang and they were like hungry beasts trying to kill one another for a space on the line in the cafeteria.
My hands limply tried pushing my body up from the ground but I constantly end up at the same point I began at; the floor. I positively think that my legs were dead. Taking a look over my body I realized that they destroyed me today. One thing I noticed though, all their anger were not instituted towards me. It was something greater.
With all the remaining energy I had, I sat up. My head, well, my entire body was pounding but I needed to get out of here before Tiffany and Arianna had someone else or they themselves will give me round two. Instead, they will do it verbally and it would hurt me even more. Sometimes I just want to die or crawl into a cave.
'Sticks and stones may break your bones but words will rip your chest apart.'
Already on my feet, I trailed along the hallway's wall for support. I needed to get out of here.
Limping, jumping and half sliding to the entrance of the school, I still made it. For once I made if just in time. The moment I stepped outside a car pulled up in front of me and I couldn't help but smile. It was Ariel, my best friend.
She attended a private school on the other side if this town. Being the great friend that she was, she promised to save me from at least a little despair every now and then. I've begged her to transfer here but she can't only because her mother sponsors her school a lot of money and her mom sees that it's Ariel's duty to keep an eye out on how they spend those thousands.
"Oh... my... fucking God. Did Cole and Zach do this to you?!" Ariel exclaims angrily, taking a look at my appearance as I entered her expensive car. She was already unlocking her door to step out but I had time hold onto her hand.
"Please, d-don't. I-I might d-die tomorrow if you get involved n-now." My voice was soft, I was scared.
"Don't worry about it Rose, everything is going to be alright soon. I'm working out a few things with my mom to have you go to my school." I was glad that she cared so much about me.
"You don't have to worry about me-"
"Oh shut the fuck up Rose, you're a mess. Come to momma," she says, pulling me into a sideways hug. My body was falling apart but I was glad she was here with me to support me when I needed her the most. I knew she was upset and wanted to kill those two but she was holding it in. What could I have ever done to find a friend like her?
