🌹CHAPTER THIRTY - NINE🌹

A couple of days passed and as I sit in the car after Cathryn's funeral, with tears staining my face and the heaviness inside my heart I feel like I'm about to break but Alexander is here with me and he holds my hand. He helps me find the strength inside of me to get through this.

"It will get better" Alexander whispers to me and while I know he's right I can't stop thinking about how she was my family but I never truly got to embrace her as my family. She was my aunt but I'm lucky that she was in my life. Even when it wasn't that much but that time was enough.

"I know, I'm must get through this" I tell him. I don't know what I can say after this. My voice feels like breaking as I had to speak up during her funeral. A funeral that not many attended for she always kept to herself. "I know this is horrible timing but I figured you'd want to have this" Alexander tells me as the car starts and drives off.

He hands me a yellow envelope. "What is this?" I ask him as I look up at his face. He gives me a soft smile. "Your family" He tells me and I give him a confused look as I open the envelope and taking out a couple of papers out of it. I start to read over them until I realize that these are papers of my grandparents and my father and... aunt.

"I don't understand" I speak as I look up at once again. He sighs. "Your grandparents, on the outside were generous people. The perfect family with their two children but on the inside they were cruel and wicked" Alexander tells me and turns a page.

A picture of an elderly couple who are smiling and they do look happy until his words ring in my ear. "Each Saturday night your grandparents would get their children, your father and aunt into your grandfather's office" He says and I remember my father and Cathryn speak of their father's office. What happened in there?

"It was there that the horrors took place. Even as young children or at the ages of three and up they were in there and they would be forced to point lethal weapons at each other and fight. The first to draw blood would be the one to do it" He says and I look up at him.

He turns another page and I see that on my father's prison pictures that were taken he carries multiple scars all over his body. Knives and gun shot wounds and other wounds that I can't even imagine from what are made of. "She had more of these than he did" He tells me.

The tears that had stopped form in my eyes as I think of the things that they had to do and for what? Why did they do this to them? "They had access to a prison and the ones that did not have anyone missing them were shipped to their house. A mansion, you see" He tells me and turns another page where a large but a creepy mansion stands.

"The one who lost would have to kill one prisoner and bury them by hand" Alexander finally says to me and I let out a gasp. This can't be real. How can people be so cruel and horrible and let their children do something like this. The worst part, I carry their genes in my body and their DNA.

"Where are they now?" I ask him with fear in my voice. Knowing that people like that are out there in the world doesn't make me feel any better about this. "They passed away the day you were born in a mysterious accident. If I had to guess something I would say that your aunt did it to spare you of the pain of going through the same" He says to me.

"Files were found, of your mother and you before you were even born. They planned on doing the same to you as they did on their children. I believe she wanted you to have a happy life" He finishes. I feel this relief run through me as not only are they not here on this earth anymore but because I would've gone through those horrors.

Then I realize something. "She saved me before I even knew she existed. She has always been there for me" I say as I hug him. Put the papers aside and don't care for them anymore. I feel so horrible that I was not there to save here. If I could've done something else, I would've done it but there was nothing I could've done.

Even she knew herself that she would not make it, I could see it in her eyes, a look that I will never forget. The gun wound was close to her heart and the amount of blood loss that she suffered it was fatal. The doctors told me that the bullet hit an artery near the heart and they told me that it was a miracle that she survived so long.

"It's all right, you never have to think about them again in your life. They're gone and never coming back. He has been locked away for the rest of his life for murder and attempted murder amongst other crimes he has committed such as blackmail and assault. He's going to be there for a long time" He tells me and I nod my head.

Knowing that I will never see my father again, but then again he was never my father to begin with. He is nothing to me. The only person that was actually my family was my aunt but she's gone now. Perhaps she's in a better place without all the death and pain that she suffered here.

I can only believe that she's somewhere that she feels happy and that she's away from the pain and she has found peace after her hard life here, that is what I have to believe in. "Let's go back home. Lunch will be served shorty" Alexander says.

Trying to lighten the mood I suppose but I fear that right now that is not possible. My mind is only not the words that he spoke. He did not tell me at a bad time, I deserved to know and I suppose he doesn't want to have any secrets between us.

We drive off in silence but it was a comfortable one because all we needed were each other until the car parks in front of the house and we get out of the car but as we are getting out, a man walks over to Alexander. "Mr. Knight, there is a woman demanding your presence. She said you'd know who she is. Shall I have security escort her out?" The man asks.

Both Alexander and I give him a confused look and then he sighs. "No. What is her name?" He asks the man who I have seen around the house but I don't know who is. "She wouldn't say" The man speaks. Alexander looks at me. "Do you want to go to our bedroom or come with me?" He asks me.

As much as I want to go somewhere where I'm alone, I want to know who this woman is. Coming to his house to demand to see him. Why not book an appointment with him at his company? What is so serious that she is demanding for him?

"I want to go with you" I tell him. He chuckles as he takes my hand. I use my other one to wipe away the tears of my face but even then I'm sure I look horrible right about now but I don't care about any of that. "Were you expecting here?" I ask him as we go into the house.

He shakes his head. "No, I don't know who would want to see me now" He tells me and I realize that he's just as stunned as I am. He smiles down at me as we walk into the room where this woman is and as soon as we walk inside she stands up from the couch.

She smirks at Alexander but she doesn't even glance at me. "Who are you?" He asks her quite harshly and I remember that he's normally harsh and a bit cruel to other people but that's not who he is, not really that is. "Don't you remember me?" She asks and he rolls his eyes.

"If I would've then I wouldn't have asked, now would I?" He asks her and her face falls. I give her a confused look. She looks to be around the same age as we but I see that she has signs of smoking addiction. She must be going through a lot, whoever she is.

And neither one of seem to know who she is or what she is doing here. I'm not sure she's all right and perhaps we should take her to the hospital to make sure that she's all right before she can return home. "I'm Selena Mist. From the bar. You said you liked my last name because it was mysterious as well as my eyes" She speaks.

Her eyes are actually mysterious. One is brown while the other is blue. I think she has that genetic condition that does that to people's eyes. I've heard about but I've never seen anyone with it before, that is until now. Alexander only raises an eyebrow at her.

I can tell that he just wants to get this over with. "I'm pregnant... with your child" She says and birth Alexander and I gasp at her and my jaw literally drops open when she said those words. My eyes travel down to her stomach but I don't see any bomb which means that she's not far along.

My eyes widen as I let go of his hand and back away from him. I see his look soften when he looks at me but then he looks at her in anger, pure anger. "How dare you speak such nonsense. We talked, never did anything else" He tells me and while I have no clue what is going on, I know that I need to hear this.

"You were drinking so much and I took you to my car since you said you were feeling horrible but not like throwing up. You said you need a rose. That you broke up with someone and you needed a rose. When I asked you where you wanted to go you kissed me and... well, you figure out what happened after that" She tells him.

Alexander glares at her but I can see in his eyes that what she's saying is true. I can't believe this. He cheated on me. Did he cheat on me? He broke up with me. But that was all a play to get my father so did he break up with me? Are we even together? Are we back together? I'm so confused right now.

I'm confused and hurt but I need to hear this. I bite down on my tongue to now allow the tears to fall as I've already shed enough tears today. I just came from my aunt's funeral and I learned the truth about my grandparents and now this. I don't know how much I will be able to handle.

"Leave!" He orders her. His voice so loud that both me and her jump up from surprise and from being startled and I can tell that fear comes across her face as she goes past us. "I will bury you so deep in debts that you will never see the light of day again!" He yells after her and by the tone, I know he speaks the truth. Then his eyes go over to me with a broken look once she's gone, a tear slips down from one of his eyes.
