🌹CHAPTER TEN🌹
"Fired?" I ask, my eyes widen when I hear those words, I'm not even sure if I heard him say those words right. "Yes, Ms. Ace. Fired. Should I spell it out for you? Ms. Smith will take over your position" He says, referring to Vicky who's sitting in the chair, grinning at me with a wicked smile.
I'm speechless of this. Then this rage washes over me. "You are the most arrogant jerk in the whole world and I'm glad I'm fired, it means I never have to be around you anymore. I. Hate. You!" I yell at him and throw the files at the floor and storm out of his office. I make sure to slam the door, as hard I possible can.
I leave the building and as I walk out, I notice the heavy rain that I never heard before, as I was so busy with the files. I left everything in my office, my keys, my phone, everything, at the moment, I don't care. As soon as I'm out, I let the tears flow down and my clothes and hair get soaking wet.
The dream of starting my own business on my own will never happen, not now at least. I've never been fired in my whole life. "Mr. Knight asked me to give you this" Harry the security guards says as he hands me my stuff. I've been sitting outside the company for a few minutes now.
People have been walking past me with and giving me looks, though I don't mind. I just cry and let the raindrops hide them. "I thank you, not him" I say, trying to sound as natural and normal as I can, I don't want him to know that I'm crying.
He's holding an umbrella over the two of us. The umbrella doesn't do much for me, as I'm already soaking wet from the rain, no part of me is dry. "You know, this isn't the only secretary job you can have. There are plenty of opportunities. And I think he made a mistake letting a girl like you go. I believe you will become something amazing in the future" He says.
I look up at him and rub the tears out of my eyes. "Really?" I ask, I smile a bit at him. "Of course, from the moment you walked in for your interview, I saw the confident and power radiate of you. Trust me when I say this" He tells me. "Thank you" I whisper, it's low but I know that he heard me say it because he nods his head.
"Here. Please get yourself home before you go sick" He tells me and hands me the umbrella before he walks inside, he still has a job to do. For another few minutes, I sit there and shiver. The water doesn't touch me anymore, but the cold weather and the speaking clothes make me extremely cold.
I open my phone and call my mom. She always picks up right away, even if she's in a meeting or busy with work. She always makes time for me, even when I'm an adult. "Hey, Rosie" She answers, cheerful and in a happy mood, like she always is in.
"Mom" I say, my tears continuing to leak down my face, I can't stop the sobs or the hiccups. "Oh, Rosie, what's wrong?" She asks, her mood completely changed. "I go fired" I tell her, the statement sounds worse when I say it out loud. "That can't be right. You were doing so well. Mr. Selone even told me that you were the best secretary he's ever had" She says.
My mom knows a lot of the business owners, because she's on herself. But, she promised that she wouldn't help me with anything because I want to do this on my own. "That's the thing. He signed the company to someone else. Mr. Knight. He fired me because of a tiny mistake. And it wasn't even a mistake. I don't know how it happened" I tell her.
"My dear Rosie, he's an idiot for ever firing you. You are my daughter and no one fires my daughter" My mother says with anger in her voice. She knows how important this is for me and I've been working towards this my whole life, well I need to work to have money to own my own company.
"Mom" I warn. I don't want her to use her connection to get me anything, I don't want that to happen. "Where are you? I'm coming to get you" She suddenly asks, in her tone that says that she's up to something. I don't know what. "In front of Selone Inc" I tell her.
"In the rain? Rosie, you'll get yourself the flu. Stay there, I'm on my way" She tells me and hangs up on me, I don't even get a chance to say anything to that. My mom has always been like this, no one can boss her around, she does whatever it is she wants.
Not even five minutes later, my mom's red car parks in front of the company. I go to the car, open the door, close the umbrella and get in. As soon as I close the door of the car, and face my mother, she just hugs me. "It's all right, little Rosie, everything's going to be all right, I promise" She says, and just hugs me.
A tear slides down my right cheek, however it blends with the water on my face. "Look at you, so wet. Let's get you home" She says and we break the hug. She starts driving and we sit there in silence. I realize that we're going to her mansion, instead of my apartment.
I still have my old room there and I often visit her and stay at her house. I can tell that she's angry, she doesn't need to. I can find myself another job. Though, I liked this job and I liked working there. I might not have liked to work for Alexander Knight that very much, but that job paid well and it's not that far from my apartment.
"When we're home, I'll make you hot chocolate. The kind you love so much. I remember when you begged me to make it for you" She says, trying to lighten the mood. Sitting in the seat is very uncomfortable, not only because I'm wet but also because the seat is soaking in the water and it's strange to sit on it, like sitting on a sponge filled with water.
When I was a child, my mom made this hot chocolate and it was her special remedy that her grandmother, my great grandmother taught her when she was a child. She promised me that she would tell me the remedy some day. I swear that it isn't normal hot chocolate, it's different and I like that. "I would like that very much" I say.
"I knew you would've wanted it. You can't resist" She says and laughs. I can't help but laugh with her because she's right about that. "See there's that gorgeous smile that you inherited from me" She says, her words make me smile even more.
The mansion comes into view and I look at my childhood home with wonder, no matter how many times I come here, the feeling of arriving is always a happy one. Every memory in my childhood is in that mansion. The gates open and she drives in.
My mom parks the car in front of the mansion and we get out of the car. Someone will take the car later and clean it and then park it in the garage with all the other cars that my mom owns. She has a lot of cars, because she's in love with cars. She hugs me while we walk inside.
My wet shoes make a sound when I walk and the rain that falls on us, only makes me shiver harder and the only heat I get is from my mother's body heat. "I'll draw you a bath to warm you up" She tells me as she takes me to the bathroom to connects to my bedroom.
Normally someone else would do it, but I believe that my mom wants to take care of me. She turns the water on and she helps me take the wet clothes off. It feels so much lighter to have them one. I'm only in my underwear and bra that are also soaking wet.
"I'll be in the kitchen making hot chocolate and then we can watch a movie in the theater room. Under warm blankets. Just the two of us" She says and turns to leave the bathroom. "Mom" I say before she closes the door, she comes back in again.
"Yes?" She asks. "Thank you" I say, shivering a bit from the coldness in my body. "Anytime, Sweetie" She tells me and closes the door behind her when she leaves the bathroom. I undress myself from the underwear and bra and slowly go into the bathtub.
The hot water burns a bit, but it's good. It warms my whole body up. Goosebumps travel along my body, as I sit in the large bathtub, only with my head above the water. It's good to warm up a bit and relax in the bath. I truly needed this, to forget curtain things.
After a few minutes my body feels a lot warmer. I step out of the bath and wrap my body is a towel that and then my hair. I dry myself off and then when my body is dry, I go into my old room and open the closet. I still have most some of my clothes in there.
When I moved into my apartment, my closet there wasn't big enough so I left a few things. But, I didn't care. I have never needed a lot of clothes. I dress myself into panties and a bra that match and then put on some old pajamas that I have in here.
I don't feel like wearing something else. I then brush my hair with a hairbrush and put it in a messy bun, not feeling like anything else. After that I take a look around my old room, it's exactly how I left it. Of course, it has been cleaned and everything, but every object is in the same place as I left it.
I go down downstairs to the kitchen. The heated floor, warming up my toes. "Here you go" Mom says and hands me a cup with hot chocolate. The steam is rising and I can smell the chocolate. No one can resist chocolate, it's the best thing in the world. I can't help it, I love chocolate.
"Thank you" I say with a smile. "Look at you, you're glowing. A day with your old mom is doing you good" My mom says, she too is holding a cup with hot chocolate. "You're not old" I tell her. "And I always love to spend time with you, you know that" I say with a smile.
She pulls me into a hug, but it doesn't last very long, as we are holding hot cups of hot chocolate. "Come, let's watch a movie" She says and together we make our way to the theater room. "So, how's Lena doing?" She asks me, probably trying to make me forget what had happened to me.
I appreciate her trying. "She's fine. And you will never guess what she dragged me into few days ago" I say. "What?" She asks, happy that we're talking about something else other than the thing that I'm not going to mention because it is just too painful.
When we are in the theater room, we don't watch a movie. We just talk and I tell her everything about what happened at the bar and how bored I was and how I will never do it again. Let's just say that she liked that idea, she wasn't happy with me going to a bar. We talked for hours and drank hot chocolate.
