"Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth."
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:2‬ ‭

That person is on your mind practically 24/7. Everything reminds you of that person. Food tastes better. The air is sweeter. Colors are brighter. The world generally seems like a better place.

And you probably haven't met that person yet.

There is nothing wrong with thinking about your future spouse. It's normal. It's expected. The issue arises when your thoughts are consumed by this alone. You no longer leave room for God and all He wants to do in your life. You start to focus on the future instead of the present.

I know all this because I've been through it. Maybe I am still going through it. It is not easy surrendering these thoughts to the Lord, but it is so worth it. The freedom you can experience is worth trading these constant worries for the peace He offers.

The Word reminds us to set our minds on things above (Colossians 3:2). When we focus on the Lord, it is harder to idolize things like relationships we look forward to having. Focusing on Him is something we should do daily. Even a verse a day is a step in the right direction.

Again, there is nothing wrong with thinking about the future. We just have to be careful this wishful thinking does not become an obsession.
