ROADTRIP IS A BOP!!! A JAM!!! IT SLAPS
fun fact: i have a mild version of the colorblindness George has
</3
George knew there were other colors than what he could see. This quote he read once often came up in his mind- just because you know you're colorblind doesn't mean you can see color. While he also knew it had a much deeper meaning it had some surface value as well.
Dream's sweatshirt was.... yellow. George coiled the draw strings around his fingers as he tried to figure out if it was green or yellow. He could sometimes tell when the light hit it right, and green always was darker.
George touched his own face, around his eyes. The blue one, the brown one. Heterochromia and colorblindness. He just couldn't catch a break.
Dream shifted in his sleep, and George dropped the strings. He rolled back on his side, pressing himself against Dream's warm clothing again. George knew about how Dream felt, and it was only a matter of time before he told it.
He just didn't know how. There didn't seem to ever be a right time and that morning wasn't an exception. It was too peaceful to disrupt with talking, let alone talking about something deep and heavy.
George had long since healed from his parent's emotional scarring on him, and he knew that Dream loved him for him, not his success. He always had doubts, but they'd known each other for so long that it was hard to mistake certain things.
He wondered why he hadn't figured out Dream's feelings sooner. Sapnap had. Maybe Dream did tell Sapnap before George did. It could've made a difference, but perhaps the same outcome.
George could tell Dream had woken up at how he suddenly went stiff, his arms loosely hanging around George's waist, their legs tangled together.
George knew Dream couldn't see his face, so he feigned sleep, and pushed the top of his head under Dream's chin. Dream felt breath on his neck and pushed George away, looking almost uncomfortable.
Dream and George met eyes, and they both looked embarrassed instantly. George moved to one side of the bed, while Dream moved to the other.
"Uh-"
"Morning," George smiled.
Dream seemed to relax a bit, and returned the smile. "Do you..."
"Remember? Yeah," George said. "I asked to sleep in here. You said yes."
Dream nodded nervously. "I thought maybe you'd forgotten..."
George wanted to lean across the bed and kiss him, or hold his hand, or go back to sleep and pretend they'd never woken up. But all of those had a slim chance now.
"Well..." Dream looked at the clock. "It's only seven, so I'm gonna go back to sleep. You can leave, i-if you want to."
George's face heated up and he shrugged, but waited for Dream to lay down before he followed suit. He could pretend that Dream was asleep long enough to get comfortable before embarrassment set in.
But his eyelids felt heavy again, and Dream had his arms around his torso and he felt like nothing could interrupt them. With his back against Dream's chest, he looked down to the hand next to his heart.
Dream was tapping his fingers together, and then George could feel his heart beating loudly in his chest. George twined their hands together, like the night before, and hoped it would calm him down. It seemed to, because they both fell asleep quickly.
Sapnap woke them up the second time, bursting into the room with a bag of take out.
"WAKE UP!" He yelled, and the door hit the wall loudly.
"...what?" Dream's eyes barely opened in the sunlight leaking through the blinds.
"I said wake up," Sapnap said, shaking the bag. "Wake George up too."
He ran back downstairs, and George mumbled something, probably complaining about having to get up. Dream rolled away from George to look at the clock, but he clung around him, gripping the cloth of his sweatshirt.
"Gogy, it's time to wake up," Dream patted the side of his face gently. "Sapnap bought food."
"Time," He managed, though it was almost not audible.
"It's twenty past noon," Dream said.
George seemed to ignore him, or he didn't care, because he didn't move, his chest slowly rising and falling despite his uncomfortable position slightly on top of Dream.
"I'm going to splash cold water on your face if you don't get up," Dream tapped his nose with a finger.
"Fine," He sighed, rolling to the other side of the bed. It was cold.
Dream left the room, not before saying, "Meet us downstairs."
George's eyes adjusted to the light from the window, and he laid in Dream's bed under the cold air of the fan. The dream catcher laid on the nightstand still, and George smiled. He wondered if it actually worked, or if it was some kind of placebo affect Dream was suffering from.
Either way, Dream hadn't had nightmares in two weeks, and George was glad. He could never remember his dreams, or if he'd even had one. George wondered what dreaming was like.
He often wondered about things that were unattainable, but quickly brought himself back to reality with how impossible the thoughts were.
George considered himself lucky in that way, he could ground himself easily. Not many people had that ability, and he tried to help anyone he could, like the night before in the car. Dream didn't seem like he even remembered it, he was acting so normal. But George also knew Dream was good at masking emotions if he wanted to.
He was an open person typically, but he avoided becoming a burden to his friends.
George remembered they were waiting downstairs and slowly slid off of the mattress. The sunlight reflected dully off the smiley face printed on his sweatshirt.
He made his way downstairs after pulling his shoes on and not bothering to fix his hair. Dream was talking with Sapnap about something in minecraft- probably the newest update.
There was music playing, barely heard from Sapnap's headphones hanging around his neck. It sounded familiar, but too quiet to make anything out.
George sat down where he always did, at the bar, watching Sapnap try to sort the food from the bag. Then he caught Dream staring at him, and he smiled. Dream gave a small wave, quickly turning around again.
George wondered how he could've been so blind. Dream was being so... obvious. But George also wondered why Dream had picked him. Why, out of every guy Dream could get and had proven he could get, did he choose George?
"Are you alright?" Sapnap pushed a plate of noodles in front of George.
"Uh- Oh, yeah," He looked up. "Thank you."
Sapnap nodded, and started eating standing up. He ate quicker than normal, and George noticed he was already dressed.
"Going somewhere?" George asked.
"I've got a hot date," He grinned.
"Where are you actually going?" Dream scoffed.
"I'm serious," Sapnap looked back and forth between them. "You... Seriously? Her name is Catherine."
"Wait," Dream started laughing. "The fucking grocery bagger?"
"Yeah! She's nice," He said defensively.
"She's nice, I'm not disagreeing with that," Dream clarified. "I just- you met her once? And you didn't talk."
"We met her once," Sapnap said. "I've met her twice, and I got her number."
"So I guess this isn't a double date situation?" George smiled, which made Dream's heart skip a beat.
"One third wheel is bad. Two? No thanks," Sapnap said. "You two are on your own today."
George nodded, eating some of the noodles from his bowl. Dream looked nervous, and his eyes begged Sapnap not to leave.
Sapnap did have to leave though, and the time came quicker than Dream hoped. A mere ten minutes after finishing ..lunch? Sapnap left.
George gave him a grateful stare, mentally thanking whoever Sapnap had asked out. Dream walked back inside, scratching his arm.
"I wish I had a cigarette," He said. "Those stupid patches are almost gone."
"You've been doing really good," George said. "Don't give up now."
"I won't," Dream sighed.
George scratched the back of his neck. "So...."
"Wanna stream or something?" Dream offered. "I uh.... I don't know what else to do. I haven't streamed in like a month or something."
"Oh, yeah," George nodded. He felt disappointed. An hour or more of one of them not talking.
"I was also... thinking... we could just share a mic," Dream said. "No one else would know, because, uhm, we could just speed run, and then there'd be no one else in the call."
George's mood lightened. "That's fine."
"I'll set it up," Dream was at the foot of the stairs already, and George sighed.
They didn't get to talk about what happened last night and that morning. Dream was acting completely out of the ordinary. It was like they'd switched places- normally Dream would be the one wanting to talk about emotions and feelings while George would brush it off.
Dream was already talking to chat when George appeared silently next to him. He thanked the carpet in Dream's room, pulling the foot rest over to the computer. It was about the same height as the chair.
"Hello?" George said quietly.
"Hey," Dream smiled. "Welcome to the stream."
George felt odd, pretending he wasn't in the room. Dream started a new world and continued to restart until he found a good seed, while George entertained chat.
"Oh! A village-" Dream jumped as the timer started.
"Sub twenty," George said. "Bet."
"How much?" Dream smiled.
"Hmmm..." George laid his head on the desk. "If you beat the game under twenty five minutes, I'll give you..... a hundred bucks."
"Tsh, alright," Dream said. "And if I don't?"
"I'll...." George grinned. "I'll never kiss you again."
"What?" Dream blushed, his character stopping for half a second as he looked at George. "W...What??"
"What?" George shrugged.
Chat probably wasn't going to calm down anytime soon, as George read it for the next ten minutes.
"I'm almost out of the nether," Dream said as he killed another blaze.
"No, you still have to get to the portal," George said. "It's super far away."
"I know," Dream said. "It'll take me like 3 minutes tops."
"And then you gotta find the stronghold," George continued. "It's just not looking good for someone as unskilled as you."
"I'm gonna push you." Dream said. Then he paused. "Metaphorically."
"Ha," George deadpanned. "You wish you were here with me and Sapnap."
"I do wish that," Dream said. "I bet you wish I was there."
"Uh huh " George said. "I bet you wish I wasn't single."
"What?" Dream made a face. He glanced at chat, who also seemed confused. "What does that mean?"
"I bet you wish we were together," He said.
Dream laughed. "Yeah, okay."
"I bet Sapnap wishes that too," George said.
"I bet," Dream waited until he reached land from boating. "that you wish I was single."
"You are single," George said.
"No," Dream shook his head. "I'm not."
"Who.... Who's the lucky guy?" He joked, but sounded slightly dejected.
"His name is the grind," Dream said flatly, and then started laughing at his own joke.
George kicked his shin lightly. Dream rolled his eyes. "Oh, come on. That was good."
"No, it wasn't," He said.
"Sounds like someone is jealous," Dream taunted.
"Say that again when I'm doing your mom," George blurted.
Dream cleared his throat and gave an awkward smile. "I'll say it again when Sapnap comes home with your mom around his waist."
They stopped talking for a moment, and then George glanced at chat.
"Dream! Did you just-"
"What?" He said, confused, and then looked at chat as well.
Half of the messages weren't loading, from too many being sent. Dream recalled what he'd said and then looked at George with wide eyes.
"Oh, shit," He smiled. "Sorry, George."
"I guess Patches is outta the bag..." George sighed.
"Well.... yeah, we're living together also," Dream shrugged. "Uh... we didn't want to tell you cause... well, look at chat. It's- it broke."
George laughed loudly, leaning back on the make-shift chair. "We've broken twitch!"
Dream laughed too, feeling blush rise to his face as George put his hand around his forearm.
"Wait, watch this," George said, kissing Dream on the cheek silently. "They'll never know what happened-"
Dream put his hands on the sides of George's face and pulled him forward, shutting up his laughter immediately. Dream's face was red, and he looked so conflicted. His eyes darted around George's features, and he leaned forward slightly.
George laughed nervously, which made Dream pull away and drop his hands. He looked back to the screen, his face felt hot. George watched him shift uneasily in his chair before glancing over.
"Uh, sorry."
"I-"
"Alright, chat," Dream interrupted. "Calm down. It's not a big deal. Sapnap lives with us too."
George cursed himself silently. Sapnap was giving him a chance, and he was missing it every second that passed. Dream continued to speed run, getting to the end after another ten minutes, and with only five minutes to beat the dragon, he stopped talking, fully focused on the game.
"Dream, watch out, you-"
He looked up, and then the dragon collided with his character, and it was sent flying into the air, past the edge.
"No! What??" He threw his hands up and slammed them on the table. "Dammit."
"So close," George sighed. "Guess you're not getting a hundered bucks."
"Yeah, whatever," Dream shrugged. "I think I can handle that."
"You could try again," George offered.
Dream thought about the past attempts before theyd gotten a good seed, and then about how long they'd been streaming. "I think I'm gonna end stream..."
George nodded, watching Dream's expressions as he said his byes and ended the broadcast. He let out some sort of a relieved sigh and spun in his chair to face George.
"So," He started awkwardly. "What do you wanna...do...now?"
George glared at him. "You were going to kiss me."
Dream's skin pailed. "What!?"
"You heard me," George said.
"I- wh- why would," Dream cut himself off, looking anywhere but at his friend.
"Dream," George leaned towards him. "Look at me."
"Why would you- I... why do you think that?" He kept his eyes on the wall, his fists clenched in his lap.
"Look at me," George repeated, and touched Dream's knuckles with his fingertips.
Dream's gaze shifted down, and up at George, confused and embarrassed. George felt his heart beat picking up in pace, but he couldn't turn back now.
"I-I'm..." George stuttered. "I'm going to kiss you."
Dream opened his mouth to say something, but his voice failed him, and he just nodded.
He stood up from the short chair he was given, cupping Dream's face with his cold palms and pulling him forward, pressing their lips together.
Dream pulled away at first, his eyes wide and dialated. George tried to lean in again, suddenly having the urge to get as close to him as possible. After a few hesitant breaths, Dream kissed him again, more confident this time. George twined his fingers into Dream's hair, knotting and pulling on it.
He leaned his weight onto Dream's chair, making it creak, and they broke apart again. Their breath was heavy and short, as it would be after a few minutes of barely taking in oxygen.
George pushed the hair out of Dream's face and smiled slightly. "Uhm...."
"I uh...." Dream crossed his arms. "Sorry."
"What? For what?" George asked.
"I could've... I dunno.... fallen in love with someone else," Dream said. "I just had to make everything complicated.... but that's your fault, isn't it? For being everything I wanted in a person?"
"It's not complicating things," George shook his head. "You might think you're alone with these feelings, but I'm the same. I fell in love with my best friend too."
"....Sapnap?"
"No, it's you, dumbass," George placed his hand back on his cheek, and Dream leaned into his touch.
"You love me," He tried, unsure in his words.
"I do," George said.
Dream smiled. "I love you, too."
George's confidence died down, and the embarrassment of what he'd just done hit him. He hid his face in Dream's shoulder, but he didn't know who he was hiding from. Maybe it just felt nice, especially when Dream wrapped his arms around his back.
