The Archer and The Assassin
"Yelena?!" Kate asked, turning on her back to get a better look at the assassin who simply grinned at the archer.
"Your dog is adorable, this is the one you saved from the street, no?" Yelena asked like she didn't just break into her apartment.
"How long have you been in my apartment?"
"Long enough to know of your very unhealthy lifestyle, typical americans." Yelena rolled her eyes scratching behind Lucky's ear.
"Yes they are weird aren't they aren't they?"
"You're a shit guard dog Lucky you know that? You're supposed to attack assassin attack, no not lick attack. Bite her ankles, bite them!"
Lucky just looked dumbfounded at his owner before walking into the apartment with a sly sloppy grin on his face.
"I hope you do not mind that I brought my dog." Yelena said following behind Lucky into the apartment.
"Mind?! You just broke into my place! Again! Without any explanation-Your not even listening are you...Yelena!" Kate got up from her position on the floor kicking the spilled coffee cup and letting out another groan before going into the apartment.
"Ah, finally you got over your midlife crisis, here."
Kate stumbled as Yelena threw one of her purple T shirts at her along with a pair of black jeans.
"Wait, how did you...why are you here?" Kate asked confusedly as she looked down at the new pair of clothes that Yelena somehow either knew she needed or had superspeed.
Yelena grinned at the taller girl before leaning on the bar taking a swing from a bottle of vodka that certainly was not Kates.
"Kate Bishop, you have ignored my calls you know? I was starting to worry, you have a reputation of being stupid and almost dying."
Kate just scoffed leaning next to her.
"Do not." She muttered, grabbing the bottle from Yelena's hand and taking a swing.
Yelena simply let out a husky laugh.
"You're funny Kate Bishop really, you must have forgotten I read your file, I really don't know how your Mamma paid for all those hospital bills when you were younger."
Kate's eyes suddenly snapped from the assassin to the floor.
Murder.
"Helloooo earth to Kate Bishoppp." Yelena waved her hand in front of Kate's dropped head.
"Sorry uh bad adhd." Kate said with a small smile.
"So you read about the chandelier accident I'm guessing..?" Kate quickly said, taking another sip from the vodka before handing it back to Yelena.
"Ah yes, that one was quite stupid, you know it is not very smart to swing from one of those. I would know."
Kate couldn't help but chuckle at the thought of the blonde swinging across from a chandelier.
"Oh really?"
"Do not be a dipshit Katherine I was not the one who swung from the chandelier. It was my sister." Yelena just rolled her eyes and passed the bottle back to Kate, which simply denied she really did not need to get drunk tonight Yelena just shrugged taking another swig from the bottle and letting a satisfying 'ah' at the end.
"So it's Katherine now huh?" Kate hated her full name, made her seem rich and spoiled which she was but she hated the impression, however when Yelena said it in russian she somehow enjoyed it. Must be the accent.
"It is your name, no?" Yelena asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Well yeah..it's just I don't really like the name that much. Kind of screams 'spoiled brat' kids in middle school were not fans." Kate laughed looking down at her dirty purple converses.
Yelena frowned, her brows furrowed.
"Fine I will just call you dipshit." Yelena shrugged.
Kate scoffed.
"You know you never really told me why you are here." Kate said, looking at the assassin for answers.
The assassin's smile faded, "Always straight to business Kate Bishop, you owe me a drink you know?"
"Oh right, we'll uh here we are...drinking."
Yelena let out a low chuckle, "Oh come on Kate Bishop this is not drinking it is only Vodka."
"That was such a Russian thing to say. Plus I'm not trying to get drunk." Kate said pointing at the vodka bottle..
"You are so boring." Yelena groaned and Kate chuckled as the shorter blonde threw her head back and sunk against the bar.
"I'll have you know I am the life of the party."
"Please Bishop..if you were what you Americans call 'life of the party' then you would drink the vodka." Yelena said adding air quotations which Kate couldn't help but think was adorable.
"You are also very defensive...still relax, I'm not going to kill you."
"I am not defensive! I just want to know why you broke into my apartment!" Kate cried, groaning, arguing with bloody thirsty vigilanties is tiring.
"I did not break anything! I knocked on the window!"
Wait wait..the window. How the heck did Yelena accomplish to get her dog up through the window? Well she is Yelena, this really shouldn't surprise her.
Yelena sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose, "Okay how do I explain this lightly...you, as in you Kate Bishop are worth millions right now."
"Well technically not yet, my lawyer is still trying to get me rights to my mom's company but then yeah I guess I will be? What's your point if you want money I can help just uh not right now I currently am dead ass broke-"
"No, no ugh Kate no, that is not what I meant." Yelena cut her off sighing.
"You are currently on the top of every assassin's list, you are wanted by some of the highest people, do you understand? They want your head."
Oh
Oh.
"Im-what? That can't be possible Clint he covered up the whole ronin thing."
That's the only thing Kate can think that she would be worth so much, no one knew about her Hawkeye thing, Clint cleared that up along with the ronin thing, Kingpin was gone again Clint made sure. That's the only way he would let her even come back to New York.
Yelena let out a scoff, "That is not something you can just cover up Kate, to the public yes, to these people oh Kate Bishop they will never ever forget until they have you in their hands themselves or dead. You are Hawkeye now, to them you are the only thing carrying on the Avengers. Well you and a couple others."
Yelena muttered the last part something that you could barely catch but Kate caught it, she caught every single word.
"So you're here then, to what protect me..?" Kate asked gulping as she watched the assassin's lips curve up.
"I'm here because I am also on their list, I also thought you could use a roommate."
Kate ran her fingers through her dark locks one more and paced around the kitchen thoughts filling her brian faster at the moment.
"We can't stay here..can we? The others, how many? We need to find them, we have to help, oh god my mom what if they go after my mom.."
"Kate. Stop." Yelena's hand snatched her wrist and gripped hard, stopping her from pacing. The touch was enough to make Kate melt, the assassin's fingers curled on her other wrist and the warmth of Yelena's hands was just enough to take everything off her mind.
"маленький ястреб, you must take a minute, look at me Kate."
Her touch fades from her wrist and makes its way to the shoulders gripping them making sure that she's grounded and Kate can't help but let out a breath of relief, her head inches away from Yelena's.
"You must trust me on this, we are both in this together. I've thrown most of them off right now. We are safe, you are safe."
"But what about the others..." Her tone is hushed and it comes out more as a whisper than anything.
Yelena's lips purse and she just nods, "I have a list, but you must promise me something Kate Bishop."
"Yes?"
"You promise me that you don't do anything stupid without me, you understand? I will have to kill you myself if you do."
Kate just grins shoving Yelena playfully, "Fine, I won't do anything stupid..without you."
"Well I hope not, we are roommates now, which means that the soda has to go."
Kate groaned, "Please let me keep my fanta."
Yelena shook her head already by the fridge with 4 bottles of fanta in her hand, "It is not healthy Katherine, you have no water, how is your dog even alive, how are you even alive?"
"Because of my fanta..please..let me keep just one." She pouts, "It's my apartment."
"Ours." Yelena corrects throwing the bottles into trash feeling no remorse.
"Come on man you can't just barge into my apartment tell me that people are trying to behead me and then throw away my soda!"
"Well. I just did. So..."

"Too much sugar Kate put them back." Yelena told the taller girl as she placed a thing of fruit loops in the cart.
"Oh come on Yelena..they're fruit loops! Key word fruit." Yelena just stared at the archer until she groaned and threw the fruit loops back onto the shelf muttering under her breath some curses.
Yelena simply just smirked, grabbing a thing of granola bars.
"Can we get the cliff bar ones please?"
Yelena sighed, does she not know how much sugar is in those bars?
"No."
Kate threw her hands up before storming down the aisle.
Yelena has read absolutely on Kate Bishop's file at least 5 times, but never had it mentioned her stubbornness. During the morning after she had changed Kate had asked for the list at least 100 times and Yelena finally let in making a deal that if they went to the store then they could go over the list at lunch. To which Kate agreed. Now Yelena was wishing she had changed the deal, we go to the store and you don't act like a 5 year old.
Yelena rolled her eyes as she picked up a bottle of almond milk watching as Kate huffed and decided to lean against the pole of the freezer section.
"Stop acting like a baby and go get me a thing of strawberries and bananas then maybe we will get out of this faster, hm?"
Kate scoffed but obeyed and pushed off the pole heading for the fruit.
Yelena really didn't mean to put Kate Bishop through this mess, it all just happened, and she blamed herself for it, she should've known. People like Kingpin never forget, Yelena should know that, she grew up around people like that, she worked for people like that, she was like that.
She did everything in her power to kill Barton for revenge and that is exactly what Kingpin is doing, but he's making some sick game out of it, not only bringing Kate and herself into this but children. Children that have nothing to do with this, but that is how you play with a hero you lurrow them out with the innocent and then they're sitting ducks.
"Hey got the strawberries and Bananas, can we go now?" Kate snapped the assassin out her thoughts as the taller girl held a thing of poorly picked strawberries and rotten bananas.
"Really Kate Bishop? Have you ever picked out fruits before?"
Kate just shrugged and scratched the back of her neck, a nervous tick that Yelena had noticed along with the pulling of her hair.
"Right of course you haven't."

After the store Yelena decided to make a couple more stops for errands, by 3 Kate had been completely exhausted and decided to pass out on a bench at central park while Yelena and Fanny played a little game of fetch. Lucky eventually joined in.
Yelena eventually let the two dogs play with themselves together while she walked over to where Kate was on the bench, fast asleep. Yelena chuckled and wiped some of the archers drool with her sleeve before gently pushing.
"Kate Bishoppp, rise and shine, come on I will order take out I am deeply sorry I made you miss lunch."
At the word take out Kate's eyes snapped open, "Food.." she mumbled sleepily.
"Yes..yes food, Fanny come." Yelena whistled to which Fanny came prancing next to her while Lucky trotted over and licked Kate's face.
"Okay okay PD get off man I'm getting up, blah your breath stinks." Kate pushed her dog off slowly getting up.
"Dog like owner." Yelena smirked, shrugging as Kate's jaw dropped.
"My breath doesn't stink..does it?"
Yelena was not going to tell Kate that her breath did not smell but in fact had a pleasant smell of green tea mint almost, for how much coffee the archer drinks it was kind of surprising.
"That is for you to find out, now do you want white or fried rice?"
***
Yelena added another packet of hot sauce to her takeout feeling as though it was still bland, Kate just looked at her disgust while she nibbled a bit of her chicken.
"Okay so where's the list? I've got this scheme board that I've been wanting to use for forever." Kate said as she put down her take out on the coffee table and rolled out a white board to the middle of the living room.
Yelena rolled her eyes the archer was always up and moving and never did sit down unless that did include a day of shopping but after she was charged she was bouncing and full of energy.
"Can't I just eat in peace."
"Yelena you promised.." Kate pouted and the assassin scoffed, Kate really shouldn't trust her. She was an assassin after all...they really need to talk about trusting an assassin thing it'll most likely get her in trouble. But how could Yelena say no with those puppy dog eyes.
"Here, I've tried my best to find most of them, it's hard to crack it when you're the one being tracked." Yelena slid her phone to Kate a list of people she had thought were in most danger.
Yelena watched as Kate's facial expression changed multiple times before she started writing on the board.
In the middle of the board she wrote KINGPIN in large ink before drawing a circle around and then connected a line to each name she wrote down.
Spider-Man
Cassandra Elenor Lang
Harley H. Keener
Theodore Altman
Kate tapped the expo on her chin before looking down at the list again, she wrote down two more names.
William Kaplan
Thomas Shepherd
"First things first, how and why are they connected to Kinping? And who are they?"
Yelena sighed, "Well I did do some research.." Yelena stood from her position on the coach and took the other black expo from the board, writing bits of information she had collected.
Spider- Man—-Ghost
Cassandra Eleanor Lang—--16, daughter to Scott Lang, Ant-man daughter, recently convicted of breaking and entering.
Harley H. Keener—--18, raised by his mother, younger sister, used to have an internship at Stark Industries, lives in Tennessee.
Theodore Rufus Altman—-18, son to Miss Altman downstairs, currently going to nursing school.
William Kaplan—-19, Adopted, in college going for psychology.
Thomas Shepherd—-19, Adopted, in juvie.
"They're not connected to Kingpin, like you and me they are connected to a little thing called the Avengers-Fail safe program, something Natasha whipped up, it was leaked. Natasha..she left it to me in the will the only way Kingpin could've gotten was from my old boss."
Yelena finished by erasing Kingpin's name and putting AVENGERS FAIL SAFE in the middle.
"These people hated the avengers, and now that they are gone they can do what they want but with a possible threat to their companies especially high running companies like Kingpin they can't continue running until we're dead."
"There is no scheme to this Kate, no plan we could possibly come up with, we stay low and move, we can't help these people, we can't bring their families into this."
Yelena finished and slammed the expo down, anger crawling in her skin. She hated being betrayed by her own people. Being hunted by them, when she has done so much to keep them safe and well.
Kate ignored the assassin, erasing AVENGERS FAIL SAFE and putting something new on the board Yelena could not see.
"They will never stop coming, no matter how much we try and hide, no matter how much we try and avoid it they will always come. Just like you said. But that doesn't mean we give up, just because something gets in your way does not mean there isn't a way around it. I won't run, I refuse to, so you can leave by all means, but I'm going to help these kids, just because I may never feel safe again doesn't mean I can't do something to make sure it never happens to anyone else."
"So I'm going to make a team, and I am going to really show these higher ups how dangerous a bunch of kids are. Are you in?"
Yelena sighs, her eyes fixed on the white board with the large words YOUNG AVENGERS and not the boring eyes of Kate.
"Fine, but if you screw up once, and I mean once, I'm leaving. And you can stay here and get yourself killed."
Kate shrugged and grumbled a 'fine'
"Glad were on the same page, I have our first location tomorrow, I want you up at the crack of dawn or Im not doing this stupid little babysiters club."
Kate grinned widely, "I'll take the couch."
"Yes, that was already determined."
