PROLOGUE
The Sun shone brightly as my Mom called diligently from downstairs. Today was the dreaded day. School. Oh, no, not just any school; This was a Boarding school.
"Erza, darling!" Irene Belserion, My Mom, shouted once again, "I made a slice of your favorite Strawberry Cake!"
Ecstatic, I jumped - proceeding to brush my teeth. A hint of azure caught the side of my eye as I glanced hurriedly at my packed duffel bag.
This is actually happening!
Grabbing my floral hair-brush, I climbed downstairs, my bag hung loosely on my shoulder.
I'm going to be late. I'm going to be late. I'm going to be-
"Erza!" I froze. My father was at home. "Erza! Come here this instant!" I was resisting the urge to hide away under my covers, forget about him entirely. Bracing myself, I stepped onto the soft, carpeted surface of my living-room. A large figure sat on the velvet cushion.
"About time! I thought you were dead." he laughed coldly; This made me wince.
Why's he back?
"Be nice!" My Mother tried to intercept, "She's only a child, and it's her first time going out alone. Who knows what's going to happen to her." she sighed, placing her slender, porcelain fingers, gingerly, on my shoulder.
"Child? She's Eighteen for Mavis's sake; She could be raped, for all we know." My eyes shot towards his face in alarm.
He- He actually cares for once?
My father continued, his voice dropping down a few octaves, hardly a whisper now, "But who cares about what happens to her." pointing a finger at me, he cursed, "Spawn of Satan,"
Self-consciously, I clutched my red hair. It's a gift, but also a curse. Red is such a boring color.
Glancing up at my Mom's face, I saw her brown eyes blazing with fury - suiting her warrior-like temperament - and realized that I was in the middle of a war-zone.
"Mom?" whispering gently, I patted her arm; After receiving no response, I tried again, "Mother! We need to go, now!"
She nodded her head, weakly, and headed out - as if nothing had happened. With experience, I learned that I should keep my mouth shut, or else I would only make things worse. Without another word, Irene and I headed towards the airport.
Canada and freedom, here I come!
~~~
The Airport was surprisingly packed. Colors suffocated me mercilessly, as a plethora of people surrounded me: Red, Blue, Orange - You name it! I headed towards an empty counter, my duffel bag on my shoulder, still, remaining as it was about an hour ago.
"Good morning!" I stopped in front of the counter. The Woman in front of me gazed at me with a bored expression; Yawning.
"Hey!" After I noticed she had dozed off, I tried to wake her up with various attempts. "Hello? C'mon, wake up!"
Her eyes shot open - they were blue, a bit like the sky. "Oh, Sorry Ma'am!" The Woman greeted me with a sweet smile.
The beautiful-est of people are sometimes the most sinister.
"I'm Mirajane Strauss!" she extended her hand, her silver-white hair, tumbling from her shoulders.
"Erza." I returned a grin. I prefer myself not to be known by the name Belserion.
"Just Erza?" she gazed at me, perplexed, as I shook her hand, "You don't have a Surname?" her aquamarine eyes shone with genuine interest, as she asked the question.
"No, Miss," I tried to act professional, keeping a straight face yet friendly eyes, "It's just Erza."
Mirajane smiled at me, typing swiftly on her computer, and handing my tickets to me.
"Enjoy your flight!"
~~~
Standing outside the Boarding gates, I sighed.
"Please proceed for Boarding! I repeat, please proceed for boarding, everyone that is headed to Toronto, Canada!"
It took me a few seconds to realize that it was my call; it was finally time for me to board.
This is actually happening!
Climbing precariously up a slope, leading towards my flight - after showing another Woman my tickets - I couldn't help but feel tremors of excitement, yet nervousness. Even though Canada was literally next to the U.S, I was leaving everyone, and everything, I knew, behind.
"Miss?" A short, almost completely bald, Man, asked me, "Miss? Are you OK?"
Wiping tears, I nodded my head; Continuing on.
A new life...
