Chapter VI

    A warm draft of air flushed across my face, my eyes flitting open and struggling to conform to the sudden brightness of day.

It was Saturday, two weeks of high school complete!

A laugh echoed in my bedroom, alarming me enough to jump up and face my newest victim.

I let out a sigh of contentment as my eyes finally adjusted, onto the chortling figure of... Jellal Fernandes?!

That's when my mind starting operating normally once again. I was at High-school. In Canada. In my dorm room.

A thought flashed through my mind, "Hey! What're you doing here, in my room, Blueberry?"

    Inwardly wincing at the tyranny of my voice, I didn't give up; Erza Scarlet was never one of those people who gave up.

"What? Wake up on the wrong side of the bed today, Sugar?" his cool response had an edge to it; mimicking me, crossing his arms over his chest.

I huffed, keeping control over my furore. I shall not get angry today. I shall not get angry today. I shall not-

"Looks like someone's feisty today, eh?" He hiked an eyebrow, pouting comically.

That's the last straw!

I marched out of the room and into the bathroom - anathematizing Makarov in my mind for just one bathroom in this Mavis-forsaken place.

Slamming the door, I recited my daily routine, consisting of taking a shower, brushing my teeth, combing my hair and getting dressed.

Hopping into the shower, I breathed, once again, intensely; Reclining in the steam of the hot jets. I recollected everything that happened in the past week - from the Truth or Dare situation, to now.

Before I realized it, I was done with my shower; a feathery, delicate towel wrapped securely around my frame. Quietly, as if it were a ritual, I stared at my reflection in the mirror.

Oh, how I miss you, Mother...

"Oy! Werza, was it? What are you, a badger? Breakfast's ready!" A husky voice interrupted me, cutting through my depressing thoughts like a dagger.

"How dare you!" I roared back, humor ringing in my voice, before rushing out - all concerns completely thrown away.

~~~
A few hours had passed, which had been spent solely on doing homework. Even though it was only the dawn of the following week, high school was opening into one of those cliché Highschool novels.
I groaned, seizing my temples, stroking my scarlet fringe warily. The stringent English teacher had set me to compose a piece on the Industrial Revolution.
Jellal had disappeared after Breakfast, as he had mentoring sessions on Saturdays; the poor guy.
If I had classes even today, I'd have most likely committed suicide!
Wordlessly, I doodled on my piece of paper, I had only written a paragraph so far; Dubious and Monotonous.
The crash of the door shocked me, causing me to drop my pen onto the oak wood floors, and look up to see a blue-haired girl and blonde gazing, smugly, at me.
"Ah, Levy, Lucy. What brings you two here?" I asked weakly.
"We thought you'd enjoy some, shall we say, company?" Lucy smirked, crossing his arms, reminding me of a particular man.
Why does everything remind me of him, suddenly?
Levy let out a squeal, rupturing my ears slightly. I let my head drop back and closed my eyes in defeat. Why did they have to come and ruin my lives?
"So, I'm guessing your week's been quite eventful?" Levy ventured, plaintively. I knew where this conversation was going.
"Heh, I guess it was okay." Was my response and I stifled a snort of laughter as they both deflated with disappointment.
"Okay, cut the chase - Mira set you up to this, didn't she?" I stood up to gain more advantage over the two. Out of all my friends, I was one of the tallest.
Lucy cleared her throat, looking down with an expression of guilt across her face; answering my question immediately. "Y-y-yes. Yes, she- I mean, yeah- She did."
"Knew it. Now, you two up for a game of Scrabble?" I ruffled through my desk, finding the drawer full of useless things that I thought might've come handy one day.
"Sure! That's my favorite game!" Levy gave an excited gasp, bouncing around like a three-year-old. I couldn't help but smile about how in Mavis I managed to find such fluff-headed friends.
They're the best, though.
I laid out the board on the small living room area that Jellal and I shared, giving out each of them some letters.
"Oh!" A blushing Lu-chan's face greeted my eyes. Levy raised her eyes, clearly asking the same question as I - what was wrong?
"I- er- I... I think it'd be better if I showed you..." she trailed off. My heart started thrumming conspicuously.
"Oh, look-ey here. If it ain't- What in Mavis is that?!"
I yelped, propelling myself straight into the mystery guest and closed my eyes tightly.
    Please, no. Kami, you can't be this evil! God, if it is him, I'm doomed.
"This is amusing, we should do this more often." A joking voice broke the silence, an arm wrapping around my waist to hoist me up. I was right - it was him.
"Oh, Jellal-san! You're here!" The duo shrieked and ran out of the room, leaving us with an abandoned scrabble board and just the trace of the girls.
"Um."
I looked up at his ruffled hair, smiling slightly. At least this meant I wouldn't be- Shut up, Erza!
    I looked down, once again, and awkwardly stared at the floor, as if it had turned into the World's most interesting thing ever.
"I guess we could play," He sat down all of a sudden, where Lucy was a few moments ago, and hurriedly tucked her stack of letters back in the bag.
"Ladies first," Jellal shot me a wink, causing me to turn into a tomato and sit down abruptly. My heart was beating fast, threatening to fracture my ribs as I faced the guy.
7 'o'clock.
~~~

By the time we finished, it was almost midnight. After scrabble, Jellal helped me do my large stack of homework before we decided that it was time for bed.

A question was still intruding my mind, however, I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was.

Heading out of the bathroom, I padded silently towards my room, which was parallel to Jellal's own.

AHA! I remember now!

Without thinking about it, I impulsively stepped into his room and walked towards his curled up figure.

"Hey, Blueberry?" I murmured, the realization of the situation finally getting to me and shaking my nerves.

"Mhmm?" He whispered back, almost shyly; Perhaps too tired to be cocky, or perhaps... No, why would he like me?

"What was Lucy getting all worked up over?"

"Ah..." stillness filled the dim room, the Moon was the only source of light from a large paneled window in his room. I couldn't help but stare at his outlined features, and how... nice he looked like in the pale moonlight.

"It's nothing to worry about, Sugar." He murmured, barely audible.

Then, what happened next startled and thrilled me altogether. He pulled me down slightly and whispered, in a deep voice, "Your breath stinks, lil' bean."

"Sleep well, Erza Scarlet."

His voice continued to repeat in my mind as I dawdled back to my room.

What just happened?
