chapter 8

5:00

Since breakfast was the main meal of the day here that everyone had to eat on time and dinner time was eaten whenever one was free, I went to the Cafeteria after class.

At times of lunch and dinner not everyone was free but still we had to eat at least 2 meals a day.

Dinner today consisted of mashed potatoes, meat balls and steamed vegetables.

While eating my food, I thought of how through my 2 week stay here my parents have only visited me once. It brought be down although my expectations weren't set high. Visiter were welcomed at all times, they could come whenever.

My parents are the only people I saw that I know ever since I got here, everyone else thought I was out of town.

I moved my thoughts aside and headed out the cafeteria after I finished eating. Walking down the halls I heard voices from a room. When i stopped by the door I realized it was an open support group and for some strange reasons, I walked in.

Everyone looked up when they heard my footsteps which made me feel nervous.
"Hello I'm Liam"

"Welcome Liam, take a seat" the therapist who's name I'm unsure off replied while pointing to an empty seat. We were all arranged in a circle.

"Rules are simple, you have the baseball you speak, if you have a comment raise your hand" he said to us all. I guess the class just started.

"Who wants to begin?" no one replied "okay then I guess ill just chose" scanning the room his finger landed on a boy seated across me.
he was handed the baseball and he began talking.

"Well, my name's Tyler and i'm schizophrenic." There was a pause then he continued. "The hardest part is the inability to distinguish between what's real and what's not.." he went on talking about it and soon my attention was cut off.

A line he said caught my attention though "sometimes i'm thankful though, even when bad happens I convince myself that maybe i'm imagining and it didn't really happen, it numbs my feelings for a good while"

After several people talked and hands were raised, I was chosen to talk.

"actually i'd rather not, I only came her to see if I can relate to anyone"

The therapist smiled and nodded then said "have you found anyone's story relatable?"

"uh- no not really no" I replied almost instantly

The meeting was over and we were told that the next one would be tomorrow at 3 but will only last an hour. Since some people entered the room after I did and not everyone was here for the introduction, he introduced himself.

Henry. He was put into a psychiatric hospital at 13 then again at 16. Never entering university although he had the chance, he chose to work here. Mr. smith was looking for someone with personal experience to start a support group, so he was the perfect match
