Dawn's POV

I widened my eyes. No! That can't be real! Paul looked down and sighed. "If you don't want anything to do with me, you can just tell me to leave and I'll do it. I'll get out of your life." I looked at him with a sad look. I wrapped my arms around him and hugged him close. "I love you, Paul. And that means I will never leave you. No matter what. We'll get through this together, alright?" He nodded and I pulled him closer.

We stayed like that until my dad walked in on us. He looked like he was about to yell at us. That was until he saw the sad look on both of our faces. He looked back and forth between the both of us and then turned and walked out.

We sat there for another half hour just sitting and hugging each other. Paul slowly got up. "Do you have a doctor's appointment, Paulie?" "I have one this afternoon. It's to get the results. Can you come with me?" I nodded and stood up. "Of course I can. I'll even skip school just to go with you to any one of these things." Paul looked up at me. "Just give me some time to get ready and I'll come with you." Paul nodded and I walked into the bathroom.

I quickly finished up putting on some light makeup and some body mist on. I walked out of the bathroom to see Paul sitting in my bed ready to go. "Alright, let's head out."

We called a taxi to take us to the doctor's office. Paul was shaking and I kept trying to calm him down. Finally, he looked up at me. "I'm not scared of dying. I'm scared of leaving you alone in this world." My heart melted at this statement. "Remember that I'm not alone though. I have everyone else." Paul smiled sadly.

"I don't want to die and then realize you're too heartbroken or something. Promise me that after I'm gone you'll move on." I slapped him. Hard. "Don't you dare talk like that! You haven't gotten the report yet and even if you do have cancer, you still have a chance to live. And if you do die, you know I won't be able to move on! Ever!" Paul just looked down and stared at the floor of the taxi.

When we got to the doctor's office, Paul was shaking really badly. I kept trying to calm him down but nothing would work. Eventually, I gave up and gave him one of my stress balls that I always carry around.

When Paul's name was called, I helped him up from his seat and we walked into the office. We sat down in the two chairs in front of the desk. The doctor looks at us and sighs. "You must be Mr. Shinji's girlfriend." I nodded. "I'm sorry but the results show that Paul Shinji has a stage four kidney cancer." I pulled back. "There is a five percent chance of him living through this. And he has about a year left." I leaned forward slightly.

"Is there any way to cure this?" The doctor shook his head. "You can slow the effect by going to therapy three times a week." Paul shook his head. "No way. No way I'm going to therapy." I placed one of my hands on his shoulder. "Paul, it'll help you. Please. I don't want to lose you and I want to have as much time with you as possible." Paul looked at me. "Fine."

The doctor printed some papers out for us and told Paul he needed to be there for most of the them. We agreed and then we left the doctor's office. After I walked Paul over to his house, I ran into my room and started crying. Why does life has to be this cruel to Paul? Why does it have to be so cruel to me? Everyone I ever loved has to be taken away from me. Dad. Kenny. And now Paul.

Paul's POV

After I got to my room, I heard Dawn in her room crying. This is all my fault. I made Dawn cry. I felt tears running down my face. Why? Why does the world have to be so cruel?
