Chapter Thirty Six

It was dark and the moonlit sky did not help the heavy feeling Juliet carried in her chest. She looked at the Capulet mansion. It did not hold the glory and power it once had. Now it just looks like something in a horror movie that will slowly crumble. She grabs the gun in the car compartment and placed it above her thigh where the holder was. She took several deep breaths and prayed that nothing happened to Romeo.

The guards on the ground lay lifeless which made it easier for her to go inside. She opens the grand doors of her own home and saw all the blood and dead bodies on the marbled floors. Even her father finally met her downfall. "So it has come to this." She clenched her fists and with a heavy heart, she kneeled to the floor and caressed her father's cheek. He has turned pale since the blood was draining from him. "If only... if only you had not committed your sins then maybe, just maybe we could all be a happy family." She fights the tears that tried to escape and blinks fast as one nearly fell. She gets up and goes upstairs hoping she would find the man she is looking for.

She carefully looks at the room to make sure no one would suddenly pop up and try to shoot her. She enters one room and sees Sebastian laying on the floor. Looks like you took a toll, too. This is madness. Everything here is madness and it needs to stop! She thought.

Juliet left the room and kept walking around to see if anyone else was still in the mansion, but all that greeted her was silence. She sighs worried what had happened to Romeo. She grabs her phone and tries to call, but the call would go straight to voicemail. "Romeo. Where are you?" She continues to look around the mansion and as she delves further, she can hear screaming. She runs to the directions of the scream and stumbles upon their old rose garden now realizing how lifeless it looked compared to when she was just a child.

The yelling grew closer and she finds her lifeless grandfather on the floor. He didnt look shot or stabbed, he was just dead on the floor. "The son of a bitch deserved it. Too bad God ended his life before I could ever get my hands on him." She hears Romeo scoffs. He, then points his gun at the group who began to scream.

"Please, Romeo. Please spare me!" It was Rose, her sister in law.

Romeo clicks the gun ready to fire. "Romeo! Fuck! Please! Please spare me! I am with a child! Please spare my child I beg of you!" Rose continues to cry.

"Oh shut the fuck up! You can cry and beg for your life all you want, but did the Capulets spared at least the children during the bloody wedding?! You... you killed Benvolio and he was just 7 years old! You killed a child!" Romeo yells.

"Romeo, that was the Capulets!" Rose cried out.

"And you yourself are a Capulet as well! Maybe not by blood but you supported them! For fucks sake, Rose! You killed Sofia! She was your best fr-"

"Oh boo fucking hoo. Sofia was a bitch. She had everything in the world! She could get anything and anyone in the world, yet she chose Matteo! I deserved Matteo!" Rose's innocent facade is now gone and was replaced by a deranged face. She laughs at the memories of her dead friend showing no remorse of her sin. "Go ahead and kill me, Romeo. If that's what makes you happy."

Romeo was about to shoot until Juliet comes out. "Romeo, please dont!"

"Juliet? What are you doing here?" Her face was filled with tears as she looked at the man she always loved realizing that he isnt the same person.

"Romeo, please. Let's just end this madness. Let's just leave together and start s new life. Just you and me. We can all put this behind us." She begs.

"But she killed Sofia! This bitch killed Sofia right in front of me!" He approaches Rose. The gun touches her forehead causing her to flinch. "She has to pay for what she's done together with the rest of the Capulets."

Pain struck Juliet's heart. "Then how about me Romeo? I'm a Capulet. Are you planning on killing me too?" She was on the sudden verge of crying. She begged and pleaded Romeo to leave with her but Romeo's mind is set up to his goal. "Romeo, please. Let her be. Let her wander on her mistake. Let her have a child and regret what her life has become due to her sin."

Romeo was getting ready to pull the trigger once more, but Juliet pulls out her gun and points it at Romeo. "Drop the gun, Romeo." He looks at his love with astonishment.

"What are you doing Juliet?" He asks with the gun still pointing at Rose.

"I said drop the gun!" Juliet yells. Her hands shook as well as her entire body. She didnt know what she was doing. Why was she pointing a gun at her love?

Romeo scoffs. "Now I know the side you choose."

"This is not about choosing sides. Rose is indeed not innocent, but the baby inside her is." She tries to reason with him.

"Then why don't you just kill me? I think it's high time to end the Montague bloodline! Do what your family couldn't and end my life!" Juliet shook her head. She stood there hoping he would change his mind. She still pleaded. "Fine, if you have no guts to do it then so be it!"

Shots were fired. All Juliet could hear was the ringing in her ear that caused a tremendous pain in her head, but it did not bother her one bit. She froze in her place unable to move. Her eyes were wide as saucers. She wanted to cry and scream, but she was unable to. She drops the gun to the floor and so did she. She landed on her knees ignoring the pain that came after with all the pebbles that pierced her skin.

Tears streamed down her eyes, but she still did not utter a single word. What... what have I done? She asked herself.

As if God were on cue with her miserable current state, he set the clouds to created heavy raindrops washing away the sin she caused: murder.

Never has she committed murder. Never has she thought of committing murder. Never has she thought that the murder she'd commit was towards the one she loved more than her life: Romeo.

Thankful for the rain, she let's out a howling cry filled with pain and grief. She looked at the stilled body of Romeo begging for him to move and begging for his forgiveness. She crawled on the dirt ground and hugged his body. "Romeo." She whispered. Her voice was filled with so much regret.

Romeo winces at the pain that was delivered at his chest. He wheezes as it was hard to breathe. The bullet may have pierced a lung. "Jul-" was all he could mutter before coughing out blood.

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. Please, don't leave me." She cries and hugs him gently.

"Don't blame yourself." Romeo coughs again, but the pain was too much too bear. He tries to mutter a few words more before his life ends. "Live your life, Juliet. I love y-" His eyes slowly closes and his body loosens.

"Romeo? No. Please. Don't die on me, Romeo! Please! I love you!" Juliet cries till there is no more tears to shed, and screams till she loses her voice. All the memories they shared, whether she knew it was part of his plot, came to surface. Within the days they had together was something she will cherish for the rest of her life.

Five Years Later

A flower was neatly placed on Romeo's grave. Juliet smiles and sheds a small tear as she stares at his name on the stone. "Romeo, Verona is now at peace. Rose got arrested and is now doing time in prison, but I couldn't bear having her child being sent for foster care so I took her as my own. But I know you'll understand.

Matteo was in a coma after the fight the both of you had and he had just woken up. After he gets discharged, he will be sent to prison for murder and all the drug dealings he committed.

Oh, and your father, King Escalus and his new queen, Milliana, are now at their fourth child. Could you believe it? They are ruling the kingdom just the way you wanted filled with peace and prosperity.

Also..." she pauses. Her smile grows wider. "Our son is growing up to be a fine young man." A little boy held her hand with the biggest and most proud look on his face.

"Papa. I will protect mommy while you're gone." Little Romeo says with a toothy grin. He is just the spitting image of his own father with his dark blonde hair and emerald green eyes. Juliet couldn't help but look at her son with so much pride. She turns her gaze back to the gravestone giving it a gentle touch.

Every year she would come to visit his grave. Every year she remembers the time they spent even if it were both good and bad. Despite his thirst for revenge which eventually led to his downfall, she couldn't help but take part in the blame. If she convinced him hard enough, or at least shot him on the leg, he would be alive this very day.

"Come on, little Romeo. We still have to help Milliana with dinner." She held out her hand to reach for his tiny ones. They walk hand in hand back to the car and road back to a place she can finally call their home.

The End
