Strange Feelings
~Malachi's POV~
Drake...He's my best friend...He has been since we were little...But recently I've been getting new, feelings...Urges...I only get them when he's near me...Or if I start to think about him...We are freshmen in high school right now and we have a drama class together for our 5th block. Now the only problem with these new feelings...Most of our friends are homophobic...And if they knew about this, I wouldn't have any friends...Even Drake...I don't want to lose him so I will do whatever it takes to make sure I won't lose him...I love him too damn much to lose all those years together as best friends...
*RING RING* The bell wakes me from my thoughts as class starts. Mr. Bartlett, the drama teacher, walks into the room and introduces himself and talks about what we are going to be doing this year. He seems pretty cool, but all the teachers know me as "the smartass" so that won't last long. He starts cracking jokes and telling us about when he went to school here as a teenager. I look over to where Drake is sitting and he's asleep already...Like usual. There is something about him when he sleeps that gives me butterflies. I snap back once I hear the teacher saying my name. "Malachi Ohlmeier?" I look up. "What? Oh, uh here!" I say. He marks something on his laptop. "Drake Green?" Everyone looks at Drake whos still asleep. "Ahem!" Mr. Bartlett clears his throat which does nothing. Lillian shakes his shoulder until he woke up. "What do you want?" He says with attitude. "Drake Green." Mr. Bartlett repeats. "Oh, here" Pulling his hood over his head, he falls back asleep almost instantly. Mr. Bartlett sighs. "He's going to be a tough one." The class lets out a laugh. "Kaelea Hix?" Mr. Bartlett says. "It's pronounced (Kay-lee)" The girl in the back says. She's usually shy but I know her. She went to the same middle school and was still shy and quiet. We ride the same bus. She usually has problems with teachers saying her name wrong but she always corrects them. "I will just call you Miss. Hix" After he was done taking roll, we did a few improv games. They were actually pretty fun. After an hour of improv games, it was time for lunch. I caught up with Drake and we talked about how this class wasn't going to be so boring. "Dude, It is going to be boring. Your crazy" Drake says still kind of half-asleep. "That's only if you sleep in class every day. " I say with a chuckle. Drake rolls his eyes and scoffs, in a playful way. "Don't act like you don't like to watch me sleep." I started panicking. "Wait, what?! Of course, I don't like to watch you sleep, are you crazy?!" Drake laughs. I love his laugh and his smile. "Dude, chill! I was joking!" I sigh a breath of relief. "Oh, ok...Hehe" I start sweating. "Jeez dude, you take everything so seriously!" He is still laughing so hard he may pee himself. "Ok dude, chill before you hurt yourself." He starts breathing again and we get into the cafeteria. We get food and sit at a table with our friends. Our homophobic friends. We are talking and laughing when our friend, Josh comes up to us and starts saying some shit. "Guys, do you see those fags over there?" He points in the direction of Kaelea and her friends hanging out and laughing. "Oh yeah! I heard the quiet one is dating a girl and it happens to be that one girl...What's her name? Zoe, I think? Yeah! Zoe!" I tense up. None of this is real and I know this. "That's not true you dumbfuck!" They all look at me in shock. "What the fuck did you call me?!" I regret the outburst right away but I can't turn back now. "I-I called you a dumbfuck! You can't call people fags just because they are close friends with the same gender! And they aren't dating, they are just really close, Kaelea is single anyways." I go to dump my tray when Josh comes up and slaps the tray out of my hand which everyone else seems to notice. "You think it's fucking ok to talk to me that way?! And Why do you care if I say shit about them?!" He has me by the collar of the shirt. I try to hit him but he grabs my fist with his free hand and he's just too burley to kick in the groin so it wouldn't affect him. "They are my friends and I d-don't appreciate you talking about them that wa-" I get cut off by a swing to my jaw. He drops me and walks away because a teacher starts heading our way. Before he leaves he says "This isn't over, Ohlmeir!" I hold my jaw and blood is dripping from my lip and landing on my hand. Drake rushes over to me. "Dude, what the hell was that?! You never stand up to him, why now?!" I spit blood on the floor. "Well, someone had to do something about him sooner or later." I chuckle but it sends pain through my face. A teacher comes over to ask if I'm alright and we sort things out. "Let's get you to the nurse." Kaelea and her friends rush over to help get me to the nurse because, and no offense, but Drake alone isn't that strong. He is pretty short too. The nurse gets me all fixed up. She puts antibiotic ointment on my lip and gives me an ice pack. I leave the nurse when I see Drake and Kaelea sitting outside the door, even though the bell to dismiss lunch had already rung 5 minutes ago. Once Drake sees me, he stands up. "What are you guys still doing here?" We were making sure you were good and if you would make it to class." Kaelea says. "Don't do that shit again, alright? Damn, you are so fucking stupid!" Drake says, clearly just mad but, did I sense a bit of worry and upset in his voice? Anyways, They take me back to class and we sit down. "You three are 10 minutes late. Explanations?" He sees my busted lip and ice pack. "Well, you two anyways." He looks at Kaelea and Drake. "We were making sure he would make it back alright." Drake says. "Ah, I see, well even though he was pretty hurt, it seems like he would have been fine without your help." The rest of the class was basically improv games. Mr. Bartlett let me sit out because of my condition. So much for my first day of high school.
