1: I Can't Be The Juliet

  "I hate you so much."

Ryuko huffed, taking another sip of champagne. She was glaring at her phone, staring at the constant ringing she received from her boyfriend. She sighed, barely having the energy to pick it up.

"What Zashi?" She huffed, pinching the bridge of her forehead. They were just gonna have their basic back and forth that they have once a month and she'd end up drinking enough champagne to make herself vomit. Of course she wasn't supposed to drink, but whatever, not like she had anywhere to be.

He just kept blabbing about how he was sorry he couldn't make her last performance, and he would make it up to her. She just stared at the ceiling as she listened to him. Taishiro made it and he had two kids. Rumi made it, she was a busy girl. Shinya made it.

But her own boyfriend couldn't make any time for her. He was probably high or something.

"Zashi, please, I don't wanna hear it right now." She hiccuped, throwing her head back. She was nearly holding back tears. It was a really important performance to her, seeing she was one of the soloists. It was a big deal. And obviously she'd perform it again, but he couldn't even bother to try and make it to opening night?

"What do I mean by that? I just don't want to hear the excuses, is that so hard to believe?"

She quickly took the phone away from her ear, pressing the hang up button.

No. 4 Off.

She was home all alone at the moment, her niece and nephew being at school at the moment, and her brother at work. She was left alone sitting on the chair, in her sweatpants and boxy tshirt.

How hard was it to at least tell your girlfriend you couldn't make it to her event. Yeah he felt bad and he pulled up to her house after, but he didn't even send a text or flowers. Shinya could bring her flowers, and they were rather nice too. A bunch of dahlias.

They were sitting on her desk alongside the pearls and diamonds that Hizashi had bought her. Alongside the now four apology letters he had written.

They were so poetic too.

Rumi had been telling her to breakup with Hizashi for real now, for months. So had Yuu. So had Taishiro. And Keigo.

But he had his ups! He definitely had his ups! He treated her somewhat well, and didn't get upset like Kugo had.

But he had his downs too. He would always put her second. He talked over her a lot, and made her problems seem small. Sometimes he'd treat her like a child too. He certainly wasn't the best boyfriend, but they were still young. It wasn't that bad yet.

"Kamihara?"

She sniffled over the phone the second he picked up. She had already started crying now, rubbing her tears away.

"I told you that you could call me Shinya."

"Sh-shinya... I think I'm gonna leave Hizashi."

"Oh... why?"

"He just- he didn't go to my recital last week, and- and I think it's just the last straw."

"Are you drunk?"

"... no."

"Do I need to supervise you?"

"I'm not a child..."

"I'm aware that you're twenty two. Just go ahead and drink some water. I'll head over now."

She could barely think. She hadn't even drank that much, but she felt like she was gonna go and vomit. Her face had already began to burn a little bit. Shinya already didn't live too far away. Maybe ten minutes away. But he was probably taking his time to get there anyways.

She sat in the bathroom closest to the living room, sitting next to the toilet as she sobbed. She wanted her and Hizashi to work out, badly. She had been the one to initiate all of their Ons. She would be the one to come crawling back to him and it seemed like he wouldn't be waiting for her but took her back out of pity.

The doorbell chime rang throughout the house, which was crazy. She had gone to his home several times and it took exactly ten minutes, but it took him seven minutes.

Then when she didn't immediately open it, he repeatedly pressed the button.

"Simmer down, you're making my head hurt." She frowned, opening up the door to him. Her eyes were all puffy already and she hadn't even been crying for so long. Her tshirt slowly fell off her shoulder and he quickly fixed it, moving it back to her collarbone.

"Have you eaten anything? Drank water?"

"N-no." She shook her head, leaving a pout on her lips. She widened the door, allowing him inside.

"Well, cmon, go ahead and sit on the couch. I'll make you something." He said, shooing her inside as he took off his shoes and put on a pair of house slippers.

She slowly sat down on the couch. She only had three glasses of champagne, she should just be buzzed. Shinya was raiding the pantry as Ryuko flipped through tv channels. She settled down on a slice of life romance movie, trying to settle herself.

"So... why are you gonna leave Hizashi?" Shinya asked, chopping up vegetables in the kitchen. She wasn't entirely sure what he was making for her.

"He just doesn't try. It's hardly the bare minimum at this point. He didn't even bother to text me he wouldn't make it to my recital." She said, chewing on her lip. "We're on our fourth breakup."

"If you have to fight that hard to make it work, maybe it's time to let it go." His voice called out. So much easier said than done. "Four is a bad number, if you made it to that many..."

He was really implying that it was doomed by the number of breakups and make ups they had.

Maybe it was.

After wrapping up the prep, and doing the actual cooking, Shinya walked into the living room holding a glass of water.

"Do you need a blanket?"

Ryuko nodded, taking the glass of water as Shinya reached into the blanket basket on the edge of the couch. He unfolded it and placed it on her shoulders, sitting down near her. It was a little awkward babysitting his best friend's day drinking little sister, but he knew he would do it for him. Would Ryuko do it for him, a whole different question, probably not.

It didn't help she was pretty attractive too.

"I just hate him so much, but I love him too."

"If he's putting in the bare minimum, does he love you back? Don't kill yourself over someone who wouldn't kill themself for you."

"That's a crazy metaphor dude. Like, I like him but I wouldn't kill myself for him."

"Just don't bend yourself over backwards for him when he wouldn't do it back." He shrugged his shoulders. "Anyways I'm making some soup for you right now. I'll watch after you until Taishiro gets back, so just relax for a little while."
