Scare Tactics
In honor of Halloween, Natasha scares Steve constantly.
Natasha never celebrated holidays as a child. The Red Room certainly didn't decorate for Christmas and there was nothing special about those days aside from being great days to catch targets off guard.
As she got older and joined SHIELD, she didn't find herself enjoying holidays anymore then before with the single exception of Halloween.
It was the one time a year where scaring people and pretending to be someone you weren't was widely accepted, in fact, it was encouraged.
So most years, she'd pick someone to become her victim and scare the shit out of them for the week leading up to Christmas.
Clint was normally her victim of choice but this year she had her eyes set on a new target.
Her super soldier boyfriend who would never see her coming.
Steve didn't seem to be a fan of Halloween so that made it even more enjoyable.
She planned out her scares, set up cameras, and made Clint swear not to tell Steve what was going on.
Then her fun began.
----------
Monday morning, Natasha woke up wrapped up in Steve's arms.
"Good morning," He whispered, having already been awake.
Natasha rolled over to face him, "Morning. How long have you been up?"
Steve shrugged, leaning down to kiss her forehead. The gesture was so sweet that Natasha almost felt bad for the week of hell she was about to put him through.
Almost.
"Half an hour maybe," Steve said.
Natasha raised her eyebrow, "So you've just been watching me sleep? That's creepy."
Steve laughed quietly, "Sorry. I can't help it. You're beautiful."
Natasha hummed quietly, moving to rest her head on his chest, "Flattery doesn't get you anywhere Rogers. It's still creepy."
He laughed again, running his hand up and down her back soothingly, "Are you hungry? I can make some breakfast and coffee."
Natasha could have stayed there all day but she had a plan to follow. She nodded, "I'd die for a bagel right now."
Steve smiled, "Want me to go out and get one from the café?"
She sighed and positioned herself so that she was laying on top of Steve, "I want a bagel, but I also don't want you to go."
Steve laughed, "I'll be quick. You don't even have to get up."
Natasha smiled, god he was such a great guy, "Okay."
She leaned down and kissed him for a few moments before rolling back onto the bed and pulling the covers up to her nose as Steve got up from the bed.
"I'll be back in a few minutes," Steve said, pulling on his coat before coming back to the bed to press a final kiss on Natasha's forehead.
"Okay. Be careful," She said.
Steve nodded and left the room.
Natasha quickly got out of the bed and threw on some leggings and a hoodie.
She ran into the stairway and practically jumped down to the first floor, where she then raced into the garage that she knew Steve would be exiting from.
She hadn't seen or heard him yet so she took her time climbing onto the ledge above the door, positioning herself just right so that he wouldn't be able to see her shadow when he opened the door.
Natasha was silent.
It was a few more minutes before she heard Steve coming.
She waited for the door to open, and when it finally did, she dropped down from the ledge and landed on Steve's shoulders.
He let out a high pitched scream and threw Natasha off his shoulders.
She landed on her feet and nearly fell over laughing as Steve tried to figure out what had happened.
"Nat???" He asked.
"Hey," She said, smirking, "Got you."
Steve frowned, "You nearly gave me a heart attack."
Natasha pecked his cheek and brushed a piece of hair from his forehead, "You're fine. Now do you wanna go get bagels or not?"
Steve sighed and took her hand as they walked towards the café.
-------------------------------------
The next day, Natasha and Steve both had to train in the morning.
She made sure that she was the first one back to their apartment though, and was careful to make it appear as though she hadn't returned.
Natasha slipped under the bed and laid patiently until Steve returned.
When he did, she waited until she could see his leg appear and reached out to grab his ankle.
Steve let out a loud screech and jumped backwards as Natasha crawled out from under the bed laughing.
"Damn it Nat," Steve said, shaking his head.
--------------------------------------
It was now only three days until Halloween and Natasha was building up to what she thought would be the best one of all.
She hid in the back of his car that morning and when he was about twenty minutes from the compound, she popped up and scared him.
Steve nearly wrecked the car but the pure fear on his face was well worth it.
"Jesus Christ Nat, you're gonna be the death of me."
She simply laughed and moved to sit besides him in the passenger seat.
-------------------------------------
The next day, Natasha waited until night to pull her next scare off.
"No scares today?" Steve asked as they ate dinner.
Natasha shrugged, "I'm too tired."
Steve raised an eyebrow, "For some reason I don't believe you."
"How would I scare you Steve? We're going to be together the rest of the night."
Steve paused for a moment, "You're you. I bet you could find a way."
Natasha rolled her eyes, "Don't tempt me."
Steve laughed and took both of their plates to the sink when they were finished.
"Wanna watch a movie?" Steve suggested.
Natasha nodded, "Sure."
They settled down on the couch and Steve turned on Netflix, scrolling through until they found a movie they could agree on.
About halfway through, Natasha stood up, "I'm gonna go make some tea. Want any?"
Steve nodded, "Sure. Want me to pause the movie?"
Natasha shook her head, "I've already seen it."
She walked out of their floor and went down to the kitchen to get tea.
Once it was done, she walked back to their apartment and set the mugs down outside the door.
She jumped up and grabbed onto the vent, climbing inside and making her way above their living room until she was right above the vent that led into their kitchen.
"Jarvis, knock on our door," Natasha said.
An automatic knocking sound rang through the living room and Natasha watched as Steve walked to open it. Once he was out of eyesight from the kitchen, she dropped down from the vent silently and crept towards the door, where Steve was looking at the two mugs curiously.
"Nat?" He called into the hallway.
She jumped onto his back, "Yes?"
Steve jumped and nearly fell over as Natasha laughed.
"Really?" Steve asked, once his breathing to normal.
Natasha nodded and bent down to pick up the tea, "I brought you tea."
-----------------------------------
With one day left until Halloween, Natasha was really just waiting for her big scare tomorrow.
She'd gone with a simpler scare today and had told Steve that she was going to train when she actually hid in the bathroom cabinet.
When Steve went to take a shower, she'd crept out quietly and opened the shower curtain with a loud shout.
Steve nearly fell over and he screamed, sighing when he saw it was Natasha.
"Really? You're gonna scare me in the shower? That's low."
Natasha smirked, stripping herself of her clothes and stepping in the shower with him.
"I'm sure I can make it up to you somehow."
---------------------------------
Now it was Halloween, and Natasha had everything ready to go.
She'd had to recruit Clint for this one but it would be well worth it in the end.
She left early in the morning and hid in a small compartment that had been built into the elevator.
When she was ready. She hacked into Fury's phone and texted Steve through it to go see him in his office.
Then she texted Clint and asked Jarvis to alert her when Steve was getting into the elevator.
When he was, she told Jarvis to stop the elevator between the first and second floors.
Steve got in the elevator, she sat silently until she heard Clint come in. Of course, Clint didn't look like Clint. He was wearing a holographic mask of her face.
"Hey Nat."
"Hi, where are you going?"
"Fury wanted to see me."
"Did he say what about?"
Steve didn't get a chance to respond. The elevator jerked to a stop and Natasha pressed a button that shut off the lights.
"Nat is this you?"
"How would this be me Steve? I'm in the elevator with you."
Natasha popped the small compartment open and joined the door in the darkness of the elevator.
She turned the lights back on and waited for Steve to see Clint before jumping on his back again.
Steve screamed, louder then he had any other time she'd scared him and then threw her off his back.
Clint and Natasha both doubled over in laughter as Steve stared at the two trying to figure out why they both looked like Natasha.
Clint pulled off the mask and Steve sighed.
"Okay you got me good that time."
Natasha walked towards him with a grin, "I promise that was the last time. Happy Halloween Steve."
Steve sighed and shook his head with a small chuckle, "Happy Halloween Nat."
Hey guys. Happy Halloween! I hope you all stayed safe this year during Halloween. I also hope you enjoyed this somewhat ridiculous chapter. If you did, please comment and vote!
