Broken

Steve and Natasha broke up and having a hard time without each other

Their relationship wasn't a secret to anyone in the avengers, but so as their fights.

They kept fighting on and on about stupid things, that by time every little thing they did pissed the other one off.

They both tried to solve things, but the both of them were stubborn, and it made things even harder.

Natasha really felt weak, during a long time, her best friend, her partner in crime, her boyfriend, was mad at her.

Clint didn't really helped, so she went to take an advice from Wanda.

Wanda told her, that no matter what will happen, Steve will always love her, he would never hate her. And her other advice was that she should do the 'where this relationship is going' conversation, and than decide if to take a break.

They had the talk, which led to other fights and arguments, which caused Natasha's, and Steve's biggest fear to come alive.

A break.

This was the hardest thing Steve had to do. See her transferring her clothes from his room, to her old room in the HQ.

He wanted to ask her to stay, but that wasn't possible for the moment.

A few weeks passed. The ex-couple tried to act normal around each other, after everything that happened.

Natasha won't admit it, but she missed Steve's good morning kisses when she wakes up, and the times he brought her food to bed when she got back from a bad mission, she really missed him.

Steve talked about it with Sam though, that he misses kissing her all the time, and just looking at her makes him want to jump all over her.

Though, nobody knew. They missed each other so much. They kept it pro, in the mornings they would exchange looks, and sometimes even a little 'good morning' escaped from their lips.

And Fury even said that no matter how bad they ended things, they still need to keep the masks on and keep being partners on missions. Since they're his best pair.

Time had passed and they both got better. Well, at least it's what they thought.

Tony tried to set Steve up with some of his workers in Stark Industries, but Steve refused. He wasn't really ready.

Natasha went to a bar almost every night, drinking a lot and ending up hooking up with a stranger.

"Tony I'm not going to date anyone right now." he half-yelled to Tony, who again tried to set him up with a girl.

"why not, she looks good!" Tony claimed, "I don't care Tony, seriously. She can be the prettiest girl in the world and I won't date her. I'm just not ready." he said annoyed.

the truth is, Steve actually hoped, deep in his heart, that Natasha would come back. But he knew, she probably moved on.

"okay okay. Are you sure though?" Tony asked and Steve grunted in annoyance. After a few minutes Natasha got in the room, looking very happy.

"Good morning everyone" she said with a smile.

"what?" Rhody asked, surprised about Natasha's behavior

"what do you mean what? Can't I say good morning to my friends?" she looked at everyone, even Steve, which smiled inside.

"I thought you hated us" Tony said and everyone mentally agreed.

"Well I do, but I'm in a good mood so you should use it for your good" she said while biting an apple.

"okay Nat what's wrong, who made you happy" Clint came up to her

"oh my God, I can't be happy for once?" she asked him.

"no. At least not without a reason." Clint joked and Natasha glared at him.

"okay well. I had an amazing night with this guy from the bar. And he called to ask for a second time." she said, and tried to whisper so no one could hear. Especially Steve.

"oh good. That's good. When is the date?" Clint asked curious

"tomorrow night. His name is Ivan. He is Russian too ya' know?" she added.

"that's great Nat. I'm happy for you really." Clint said.

"Yeah well let's see where this is going." she laughed

The same night, Sharon came to Steve's room in the HQ, she asked Steve to help her fill a long mission report, and honestly, Steve felt bad to say no.

She came and they sat down, they started filling it, and then started to have little conversations and then laughing out loud about stuff they both said.

On the end of the hall, Natasha got a call from Fury, asking a mission report from a mission the team went a week ago. Steve was asked to write it.

Natasha had to go to his room, for the first time since their break, she had to come up to his room.

She got closer to his door and she heard a lot of laughing. She almost knocked. she hesitate at first, but then knocked on it. Her heart was beating loud, maybe loud enough that all New York could hear.

"Hey Natasha what's going on?" Steve asked, Natasha looked inside, and saw Sharon on the couch, panting from laughing.

"Hi Romanoff" Sharon said, trying to be polite.

"13" Natasha responded and nodded her head.

"so, umm what do you need?" he asked

"the mission report from last week's mission, you were supposed to write it, remember?" Natasha asked him annoyed, she wanted to get out of there quickly. She couldn't stand the sight of Sharon on his couch, that used to be her's.

"oh shoot. Sorry Nat I totally forgot about it. I'll write it and drop.it off to fury tomorrow night." Natasha stopped listening.

'Nat'. He haven't called her that since the break up. She felt a shower down her spine when he said that.

"okay. Just remember next time." and with that she left.

Steve felt totally embarrassed, he was scared that Natasha thought that he is now dating Sharon which is not true. He would never date her, she's just a friend.

Eventually, Sharon left almost at midnight. They talked and laughed so loud, Natasha couldn't help but overhear stuff they talked about. And it made her crazy.

She remembered that her and Steve would do the same thing. Sitting on the couch and laughing about stupid things. But later on these laughing became to fights.

He tried to sleep. He really did. But the fact that she is not there next to him bothered him for months since the break up.

And it bothered her as well. She always woke up in the middle of the night, sweaty and screaming from a nightmare. Back in the time they were together, he would always calm her down, hug her and kiss her until she fell asleep again.

But now, she couldn't even close her eyes. Knowing that she will have a nightmare, and he wouldn't be there to hug her.

They both laid awake in bed, never sleeping, thinking about each other.

The next night came in a hurry, Natasha had a date, and Sharon asked Steve to meet her again, to finish the report from last night.

Natasha prepared nicely, she put on a nice dress, decent make up and some jewelry.

She arrived at the restaurant and sat in the table, which her date waited for her there.

"Hi Natasha" he said and kissed her cheek

"Hello, nice to see you again" she kissed his cheek too and sat down at the table.

while at the compound, Steve and Sharon started to fill a mission report, but Sharon had other plans.

She flirted with him almost all the time. She tried to get closer as much as she could. And even put her head on his shoulder.

That action reminded him of Natasha, how she would put her head on his shoulder, and fell asleep right away. God he missed her.

Sharon got too far now. she put her lips on his neck, gohsting her lips there.

Steve thought it was an accident, but she did that several more times and even but a little.

"Sharon...." he turned his head, he didn't have a chance to say anything else before her lips attacked his.

He tried to push her away but she hung on his lips like a cat on a tree.

"Sharon stop." he finally pushed her away

"why? I thought you liked me." Sharon.said faking sadness.

"I like you Sharon don't get me wrong but, I'm not ready to date yet. and definitely not sleep with anyone. I'm sorry." he said.

"I'm sorry too. Can you drive me home?" she asked. Steve was too bad to reject her, so he agreed.

Natasha's date was terrible. Her date kept talking all about himself, about his business and his family and friends. Natasha literally wanted to throw the wine bottle on his head.

She barely even talked. Only to laugh and agree with what he said. She hated it.

She missed him. Again. In all of their dates they both did the talking, and she always enjoyed listening to him talking. Even if he talked to much.

But she hated this guy. She didn't enjoyed a second of his talking. And she couldn't stand listening to him.

When they finally paid the bill, he asked her if she needs a ride home, but she said no, she didn't want to come back with him and her car was there anyway.

She decided walking around the area.

Natasha ended up sitting on a bench in central park. With a cup of warm coffee in her hands, deep in her thoughts.

While Natasha sat in the park, Steve drove Sharon home in New York.

Steve dropped Sharon off at her apartment and thought of having a walk in central park. Maybe it will help him loosen the thoughts about everything.

He walked through the park, looking at it getting emptied minute by minute.

On one of the benches, he spotted a redhead girl who he suspected was Natasha. He got closer and closer, and realized it was her.

She looked up at him, surprised to see him.
He sat on the other edge of the bench and looked at her.

"what are you doing here?" he asked

"had a date. You?"

"dropped Sharon at her house."

Then there was an awkward silence.

"so how is he?"

"who?"

"the guy you dated with."

"terrible." she said simply and he laughed

"you set a high bar Rogers." she laughed. But is was the truth though.

"how's Sharon?" she asked

"good. She's fine."

Again, the silence.

"so how are you doing?" he asked

"alright"

"and now seriously?" he asked and she just frowned. He knows her better than anyone, he knows when something is bothering her.

"I can't sleep." she said.

"me too."

Silence.

"I miss you." Natasha's heart grew like 10 sizes bigger with that sentence.

"me too."

"come here." he opened his arms for her. She got into his embrace and hugged him back tight as if he would disappear if she would let go.

She put her head on his shoulder and he kissed her forehead and Natasha blushed insanely. She was lucky it was dark.

they stayed like that for a while. Not talking, just looking at the trees of central park, enjoying each others company.

"let's go home" Steve said and got up, holding his hand out to her.

"let's go" she took his hand and got up.

They both walked to the exit embraced and happy, knowing they got what they wanted.

Them.
