Worthy
Requested by LolaP1, Natasha can lift Thor's hammer but struggles to come to terms with it.
"Guys, I've got a lot of aliens over here. Mind lending a hand?" Natasha yelled through her com, shooting a few more rounds at the creatures surrounding her.
"Head up!" Thor yelled, throwing the hammer just above her. Natasha jumped up and grabbed the handle, expecting the force to carry her out of the mess of aliens.
Instead she found herself back in the middle of, except now she held Mjolnir in her hand.
Thor stared at her with wide eyes and grinned widely, "Lady Natasha is worthy!" He screamed.
Steve looked over at Natasha and saw her staring wide-eyed at the hammer, completely unaware of the aliens behind her.
"Natasha! Duck!" Steve yelled, throwing his shield at the metal aliens.
Natasha did as he said and then grabbed the shield from the dead creatures body and throwing it into the air as Steve jumped over her, grabbing it and driving it into the head and of another alien.
Steve sighed and knocked out another alien, he nodded towards the hammer, "You might wanna consider using that to fight." He teased.
Natasha looked back at the hammer and nodded, driving the hammer down onto the creature she was currently battling.
"Thor, I think your hammers broken." Natasha yelled out to Thor as she tossed Mjolnir back to him.
"Nonsense! It works perfectly fine!" He yelled back, bringing an array of lightning down on their opponents.
Tony flew over the scene, firing rockets at some of the aliens, "What's wrong Romanoff? Not ready to be queen of Asgaurd?"
Natasha killed a few more aliens and rolled her eyes.
Clint fired an explosive arrow into the crowd and joined Steve, Natasha, and Thor on the ground, "Question Thor, since Natasha is worthy of ruling Asgaurd, do you two automatically become betrothed or something?"
Thor laughed and shook his head, "No! Lady Natasha may wed whoever she wants and doesn't have to rule Asgaurd unless she wants to."
Natasha shook her head, "You're all being ridiculous, I already told you the hammer must be broken, I bet Clint could hold it too."
Thor shrugged and tossed to at Clint, who attempted to catch it, only to be dragged back four feet and land in the dirt.
"Nope. Not broken." Clint said from the ground with a groan.
Natasha rolled her eyes and continued to fight, still not believing that she was worthy of a gods power.
When the battle was over, Natasha was already in a bad mood. This had to be some sort of trick. Natasha had committed hundreds of assassinations. She had killed countless people.
How could any of that make her worthy of Thor's hammer and powers?
"So Romanoff, are you like immortal now or some type of god?" Tony asked when they were all sitting down for dinner in the avengers facility.
Natasha rolled her eyes and ignored him.
"Careful Tony. If you make her mad she might summon the powers of Thor and hit you with some lighting." Clint joked, holding back a laugh.
Thor chuckled and nodded, "She could in fact summon lightning. I could teach you if you wish." He said, facing Natasha, who was growing more irritated every second.
"Thanks Thor, but I'm going to get some sleep." Natasha said, standing up.
Steve watched Natasha with a frown. Clint laughed again with Tony, "God's don't need sleep Natasha, stay a little longer!" They yelled.
Steve frowned at both of them and quickly followed after Natasha.
She had already left the floor by the time Steve reached the elevator so Steve quickly ran up the stairs, reaching her room quickly and knocking on the door.
"Nat? Are you alright? You seemed a little upset downstairs." Steve said through the door when she didn't answer.
Natasha opened the door and sighed, "I'm fine Steve. Why would I be upset?"
Steve frowned, "You tell me."
Natasha didn't say anything, instead, she moved to the side, silently inviting Steve into her room.
They sat down on the couch together and Steve eyed Natasha cautiously, "Is it about Thor's hammer?"
Natasha sighed and looked down, Steve there has to have been some sort of mistake. There's no way I'm worthy. I don't want to be worthy. I don't want the power of God's."
Steve let out a sad sigh and smiled at Natasha, "As ironic as it may be, I think that's excactly why you are worthy. You don't want power or wealth. You're a selfless person Nat."
"Except I'm not," Natasha said, shaking her head, "Do you know how many people I've killed Steve? Because I don't. It's too many to count. My hands are dripping with blood. There's red in my ledger that I can't wipe out. And if that makes me worthy then there's definitely something wrong with the judgement of that damn hammer."
Steve frowned and gently interlocked his fingers with Natasha, "You've changed though. You might have done some terrible things in your past but you've also saved the world on numerous occasions."
"No more times then you, Clint, Tony, or Bruce. So why shouldn't you be worthy too?"
"Tony is a great person, but he's got too much of an ego. Clint's just too much of a mess. He'd set the world on fire in a day. Bruce is the hulk. I think that's a liability in itself. And I'm only here because I participated in an experiment done by a mad scientist," Steve explained.
He lifted his hand to Natasha's chin and lifted it gently so she was looking at him, "You are worthy Nat. Don't doubt yourself. You're the glue that holds this team together, we need you." Steve said quietly.
Natasha smiled at Steve and shook her head, "You're more then a lab experiment Steve. You're a natural born leader and you always know exactly what to say. It's kind of infuriating."
Steve laughed, "Well I had 70 years in the ice to think up some inspirational speeches. That's probably why." He joked.
Natasha rolled her eyes with a light chuckle and stood up from her couch, a mischievous gleam in her eyes, "Let's give this being worthy thing a whirl..." She said, holding out her hand to summon Mjolnir.
There were several crashes and a few screams from Tony and Clint before the hammer hit Natasha's hand.
"Lady Natasha! What are you doing with my hammer!" Thor yelled through the hole it had created.
Natasha grinned, "Just seeing if it still worked. I'll give it back in a minute."
"It suits you." Steve complimented.
Rolling her eyes, Natasha pushed Steve back in the couch and placed Mjolnir on his chest, "Shut up." She laughed.
Steve lifted the hammer off his chest and gently kissed Natasha, not being able to contain his feelings any longer.
Natasha kissed him back for a second and then pulled back in shock, "Did you just lift that?" She asked.
Steve paused, "Huh. I guess I did." He mumbled before kissing Natasha again.
