What's Going On
Requested by romanogersfanfics.Hopefully this is what you had in mind! Steve and Natasha are secretly dating and the rest of the team notices that something is up and try to figure out what it is.
Tony frowned as he stared at Natasha and Steve from across the room. Something was up.
"Hey, Pep...Do they look a little in love or is it just me?" He asked, pulling
Pepper to his side.
She shrugged. "They look happy."
Tony squinted and nodded. "I think there's something going on."
Pepper sighed. "Tony please don't try and barge in on their personal lives to figure this out. Let it be."
He frowned, looking back at Natasha's wide smile towards Steve and the way he looked back at her. "But Pepper-"
She stopped him. "No."
He frowned and walked away.
In the other corner, the other avengers had also noticed how close Steve and Natasha had been getting.
Clint squinted at them and shook his head. "They're dating. I'm sure of it." He determined.
Thor shrugged. "Perhaps they are just fondueing."
Bruce disagreed. "I think you guys are overthinking this. Maybe they are just becoming closer friends."
Sam rolled his eyes. "The only person Natasha friend zones is you Bruce. They are definitely dating."
Bruce frowned and walked away.
The remaining avengers argued over for some time before bringing Tony back into the conversation and ultimately deciding to just ask them later that night.
At the center of the room, still unaware of how many people were watching them, Steve and Natasha sat happily at the bar.
"Would it be too obvious if I danced with you?" Steve asked Natasha.
She smiled but nodded. "Probably. They've already been watching us all night, this will only give them another reason to think something's going on."
Steve smirked. "Something is going on."
Natasha rolled her eyes. "Yes, but we agreed to keep it a secret for a while."
Steve discreetly rubbed her hand under the bar. "I know, I'm only joking with you."
Natasha squeezed his hand and smiled. "For now, let's just say I owe you a dance."
Steve smiled, struggling to resist the urge to kiss her. "Okay, if you insist."
Natasha looked over at the team and sighed. "I have a feeling our peace and quiet isn't going to last long." She said as Tony began walking towards them.
Steve sighed and let go of Natasha's hand.
"Capsicle, Widow. I've got a quick question."
Natasha sighed. "What?"
"Are you two like dating...friends with benefits? Anything because the team and I feel like somethings going on."
Natasha rolled her eyes and Steve took a long sip of his drink.
"We aren't dating Tony. Why can't you guys understand that we are just good friends?"
Tony frowned. "Then why do you both look so happy?"
"Because we were talking about how Steve has a hot date this Sunday." Natasha lied and Steve nearly choked.
"Hmm? Oh yeah. She's great."
Tony frowned. "What's her name then?"
"Err, Na...Nancy." Steve answered, almost saying Natasha's name.
Tony rolled his eyes and stormed back to the team.
Natasha laughed and put her hand on Steve's knee. "You are a terrible liar."
Steve blushed. "Sorry."
"Don't be. He was going to continue trying to figure it out no matter what we said. We'll just have to be more careful now."
Steve frowned. "So no more make out sessions in the training room."
Natasha smirked. "Now I never said that."
Steve grinned and stood up. "I think I'm going to head up to my room for a shower...I'll see you tonight right?"
Natasha nodded. "As soon as the coast is clear I'll be there."
Steve gave her hand a squeeze and walked into the elevator.
Steve took his shower and got into his bed, quietly waiting for Natasha's soft knock at his door.
Since they started dating they had figured out that they each slept better when it was with each other so it had become a tradition for them to sneak into the others room once everyone was asleep.
Frankly, it was the only thing that kept Steve sane. His only alone time with Natasha that no one could take away.
Her knock came at around midnight and he rushed to the door excited that she was there so early. Normally it wasn't until one or two.
When he opened the door he was beyond disappointed that instead of Natasha, it was Sam.
He pushed his way into the room and waved his hand. "Don't mind me, I'm just looking for something I think I left in here."
Steve frowned and followed behind Sam as he searched under the covers and in the closet, even opening up the shower curtain.
"What did you lose?"
Sam paused. "Redwing."
Steve rolled his eyes, not buying it. "Why would it be in my room? Or better yet why would it be under the bed?" Steve asked, watching as Sam searched every square inch of his room.
Sam shrugged. "Sometimes he gets away from me. You know what, I bet he's on the roof. I gotta go."
Sam walked out and pressed a button on his intercom. "She's not in there."
Tony and the others cursed but eventually let it go for the night.
Natasha's knock finally came at 2 in the morning.
He opened the door slower this time and sighed in relief when it was Natasha.
She hurried in and greeted him with a passionate kiss.
Steve kissed her back and grinned. "I've been looking forward to that all night."
Natasha rolled her eyes and kissed him again. "Sorry I got here so late. The team was basically patrolling the hallways until about 30 minutes ago. They are definitely suspicious of us."
Steve nodded. "Sam came in earlier. I think he was checking to see if you were in here."
Natasha sighed. "So much for waiting a while before telling them."
Steve kissed her forehead and held her hand. "It'll be fine. All of them are afraid of you so they'll probably leave us alone after a few days."
Natasha nodded and went to Steve's bed. "I don't know about you, but I'm exhausted. Ready for bed?" She asked Steve.
He nodded and laid down beside her. "I set an alarm for 6 so that we can be up before all the others."
Natasha nodded and wrapped her arm around Steve's stomach and laying her head down on his chest.
Steve put this arms around her and kissed her one more time before closing his eyes. "Goodnight Nat."
"Goodnight Cap."
----------
The couple woke up around five. It wasn't an alarm that woke them, but a strange scurrying above their ceiling.
Natasha sat up quickly. "What the hell is that??"
Steve furrowed his eyebrows. "Sounds like somethings in the vents..."
Natasha jumped out of the bed and grabbed her gun. "Damn it Clint!"
She listened to where he was and shot in front of the sound so that she wouldn't hit Clint but would definitely frighten him.
She fired a few more shots until the noises stopped and she pinpointed where she though Clint was.
Using a broom, she knocked the platform out and Clint came crashing to the ground.
Natasha put him in a headlock and scowled at him. "What the hell Clint. Are you spying on me?"
Clint held his hands up in surender and looked from Natasha to Steve.
"No." He lied.
Natasha tightened her grip and Clint choked out the truth. "Ok, yes I was. Tony asked me to see if you were in here. Which you are. With Steve. Which means you two are dating!"
Natasha didn't loosen her grip. "Clint I swear if you tell anyone I'll make your life a living hell."
Clint gulped. "Too late. We have intercoms. They can hear everything you're saying."
Natasha sighed and Steve facepalmed.
Natasha grabbed Clint by his ear and walked down the hallway to Tony's room, knocking loudly at the door.
Tony answered and smiled. "Hey Widow... where's lover boy?"
Natasha grabbed Tony by his ear and dragged both of the guys into the elevator.
"Who else was involved?" She asked as Steve joined them in the elevator.
"Everyone but Pep and you two." Clint confessed.
Natasha threw them both down. "Everyone??"
Steve sighed and grabbed Natasha's hand as an attempt to calm her down.
"I should kill all of you." She mumbled before stomping towards the intercom button.
"Everyone in this building better get down here." She said into it.
Slowly, the avengers filled up the couch.
Steve and Natasha sat next to each other on the fireplace and Tony and Clint sat on the couch with their arms crossed like two kids who just got caught fighting.
When everyone except Pepper was down there, Natasha began to talk. "If one more person tries to sneak into mine or Steve's room in the middle of the night or tries to get any sort of information by invading our privacy. I will personally stab you with my best knife. What Steve and I are is not your business."
She paused looking at the sheepish faces. "But if you must know, we are dating. And we don't want it to be a big deal so don't ask questions."
Everyone nodded.
Steve smiled at Natasha and held her hand again.
Tony sighed. "I knew it." He mumbled.
Pepper came into the living room with a confused look on her face. Her eyes went from the sheepish avengers, to Steve holding Natasha's hand, and then to her smiling husband. "What's going on?"
