Valentine's day

Requested by someone but I can't find it, the team tries to set Steve and Natasha up but it failed and Steve is embarrassed so he takes Natasha on a picnic to apologize.

"Come on Cap. Just give slip the card into her bag. She'll know it's you." Tony said, handing Steve the ridiculously cheesy Valentine's day card he insisted would work.

Steve frowned reading the phrase again, "I don't know Tony. Natasha doesn't seem like the type to like this kind of thing."

Tony shrugged, "What's the risk?"

Steve raised his eyebrows, "With asking Natasha out? There's no telling what she'll do. Maybe kill me."

Clint shrugged, "He's not wrong."

Tony rolled his eyes, "Trust me on this... she'll say yes."

Steve looked over at Clint, "I still don't know about this...Clint what do you think?"

Clint shrugged, "I don't think she'll read the card. Natasha hates Valentine's day. It's the one day of the year where all the agents who spend the rest of the year staring at her ass buck up and ask her out. By noon she'll probably have rejected twelve guys."

Steve frowned, "So I shouldn't do it?"

Clint shook his head, "No you should."

"I thought you just said she wouldn't read it?"

"You shouldn't give her the card. You should ask her out. Maybe do it tonight. She hated Valentine's day so she'll be a lot more likely to say yes today," Clint suggested.

Steve frowned, "I'm confused."

Tony sighed, "How about this Cap. Clint and I will set everything up. All you have to do, is show up at the restaurant."

Steve rubbed the bridge of his nose, "I don't know guys. If she really hated it so much, maybe I should just wait a week or so to ask her out."

"Don't be a wuss Steve. We'll tell her when to meet you and boom, you've got a date." Tony said, walking away.

Steve tried to argue more but Tony and Clint had already walked away to begin setting up the date.

Steve sighed and sat down on the couch, pulling out his phone and noticing a text from Natasha.

Natasha: Sharon doesn't seem to have a valentine yet...maybe you should ask her out.

Steve frowned, that was the last thing he wanted to do.

Steve: How many times do I have to tell you I'm not interested in Sharon?

Natasha: Don't be daft Rogers. She's perfect for you.

Steve frowned. The only one Steve wanted was Natasha. She was perfect for him.

Steve: What about you? I don't see you with a date tomorrow.

Natasha: That's because it's a dumb holiday and I refuse to take part in it.

Steve: If it's dumb then why should I take part in it?

Natasha: Dumb people celebrate dumb things. Plus you're into the whole romance thing.

Steve: I've had one kiss since 1945 Nat...I'm not exactly Romeo.

Natasha: Don't complain. I've tried to help you get dates. You're just stubborn

Steve chuckled and shook his head slightly.

Another text popped up and he saw Clint telling him to meet Natasha at a small restaurant near the compound.

Steve checked the time and saw it was getting pretty close to the time he was supposed to meet her.

Going up to his floor, he changed into some jeans and a nice sweater before trying to fix his hair, feeling unusually self-conscious despite knowing Natasha didn't care about how he looked.

When it was close enough to the time he was supposed to meet her, Steve went to the garage and took his motorcycle down to the restaurant, checking in with the hostess before being sat down at a table by the window.

He checked his watch and frowned, it was past the time they were meant to meet by now.

He checked his phone and texted Clint.

Steve: I'm here... Ray's right?

Clint: Yeah. She said she'd be there at seven.

Looking around the restaurant again and then peeking out the window, Steve frowned. It was nearly 7:30.

Steve: Are you sure she's coming? Nat's not normally late.

Clint: I don't know why she wouldn't come.

Steve: Alright. I'll just wait for her then.

Steve put his phone down and ordered a drink.

An hour passed and Natasha had still not shown up or sent him a text.

Finally, at nearly nine, Clint texted him, telling him that Natasha had 'forgotten' about the date.

Steve frowned and paid for the drinks he had ordered before leaving, trying to ignore the pitiful looks the workers gave him as he left.

When he got back to the compound, he felt like an idiot.

He should've just asked her himself. At least then he wouldn't have been stood up.

He walked in and saw Natasha asleep on the couch.

Steve couldn't help but smile at the sight, despite that she had just left him alone in a restaurant for two hours.

He grabbed a blanket and gently placed it over her before retreating back to his room.

Steve couldn't help but wonder all night why she would have said yes and then not shown up. It just wasn't like her.

She wasn't someone who would pretend to be interested. If she didn't want to go, she'd tell you.

Wondering if maybe he had upset her by having Clint and Tony ask for him, he decided to plan something small to make up for it...as friends.

-----------------

When Steve woke up the next morning, he was quick to put his "plan" to action.

Grabbing a few blankets, some pillows, and some alcohol, Steve set up a small picnic by the docks, hoping that Natasha was free.

Once he had made food as well, he asked Jarvis where Natasha was.

"In the training room," Jarvis replied.

Steve went there and looked around the room, only to see her just as she emerged from the showers, her braids slightly damp and her skin still a light tint of red from her workout.

"Hey Rogers. What's up?" She asked him when he walked up to her.

Steve shook his head, "Nothing...I was just coming to ask what you were doing today."

Natasha raised an eyebrow, "Same thing I do every year, nothing."

Steve shook his head with a small smirk, "Well, if you're interested, I was going to go eat by the docks, I could use some company..."

He could've sworn he saw Natasha smile, "Sure, give me ten minutes and I'll be ready to go."

Steve nodded and waited as Natasha gathered her things and put them in her locker.

The two walked to the place where Steve had set up the picnic quietly and Steve was even more confused.

Natasha wasn't acting upset. She was being completely normal. Had she really just done it to avoid dinner with him?

"Damn Rogers. You went all out for just eating lunch," Natasha said, seeing what he had set up.

Steve scratched behind his ear, "Well I actually did this so I could apologize."

Natasha raised an eyebrow, "Apologize for what? I don't remember you pissing me off lately."

Steve frowned, "Last night...when you didn't show up I was worried you were upset with me."

Natasha tilted her head, "What are you talking about Steve?"

"Last night...when you didn't show up at Ray's I thought you might've been upset with me for having Tony and Clint ask you out for me. Which is perfectly reasonable. I should've stopped it."

Natasha's eyes widened, "The dinner at Ray's was with you?"

Steve nodded, "Nat what's going on?"

Natasha shook her head, "Clint fucking Barton....he didn't tell me I was meeting you at Ray's. He said it was a friend of his. And in the past his friends have been assholes so I just didn't go. I had no idea it was you."

Steve frowned, "Wait? Clint didn't tell you it was me?"

Natasha shook her head, "Steve did you really think I would stand you up? If there's anyone that I would say yes to going out with, it would be you."

Steve's eyes widened and he smiled slightly, "Really?"

Natasha laughed, "Why do you look so surprised?"

"I just didn't expect you to say that."

"That I'd go on a date with you?" Natasha asked, sitting down besides him on the blanket.

Steve nodded.

Natasha smirked, "Well we already spend a lot of time together, you've got the body of a Greek god and the temperament of a golden retriever...which makes you insanely attractive, and to be honest, I've wanted to kiss you for quite a while now."

Steve smiled and pressed a short kiss to her hand, "What's stopping you?"

Natasha grinned, "Not a damn thing."

She pulled Steve to get and their lips crashed together in a passionate and loving kiss.

Steve leaned down over Natasha and kissed her like it was going to be the last time.

Natasha's hands roamed his body and she moaned in contentment as he kissed her.

They continued on like that for a while, but eventually, were able to pull away to finally be honest.

"Natasha I don't just like you...I think I'm in love with you." Steve whispered against her lips.

Natasha smiled, "Lucky for you, I think I love you too." She whispered, kissing him again.

Steve grinned widely and kissed her until both of their lungs were grasping for air.

They laid down besides one another on the blanket, hand in hand with their heavy breaths slowly settling down.

"Happy Valentine's day Steve." Natasha whispered quietly.

"Happy Valentine's day Nat," He whispered back, kissing her and rolling so that she was on top of his chest.

She moaned and laughed quietly, "Maybe this holiday isn't as bad as I thought."

Hey guys. Sorry it's been several days. I literally have not slept in days though bc of school and soccer so I have a genuine excuse.

The good news, is that I started break tonight so I'll be updating much more often.
