The Science Teacher and Architect
Based on what Yelena said she told people Natasha was. This is my first AU so go easy on me lol.
Natasha had never really pictured herself moving to California. She liked the idea of living in the United States, but she always imagined she'd live in a big city like New York or Chicago...somewhere cold with big grey buildings.
But when she went to move, her friend Pepper Potts that she had met through a college program assured her that Los Angeles was the best place to live in the United States if you were young, single, and looking for a home.
Pepper also lived there herself so it hadn't taken more then a few photographs and a promise to show her around to convince Natasha to move to LA.
Her first day there however, she was starting to wonder if her decision was a good one or not. It was early January and yet she was hot in a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. She was definitely not used to this kind of heat.
Pepper had picked her up from the airport and had not stopped talking since Natasha had gotten into the car.
"You know, you should come to this party that Tony and I are having this Saturday. You could meet new people, spend some time away from unpacking, it'll be fun!" Pepper said.
Natasha hesitated. She had only met Tony a few times through face time and as much as she liked Pepper, she was married to an narcissistic ass who covered up his apparently good heart with flirty comments and terrible jokes.
"I don't know Pepper," Natasha said, shrugging with a small grimace.
"It's only our close friends so it won't be anything crazy. Please come. Everyone is really nice. You might even meet a guy. Some of Tony's friends are much better guys then you would think," Pepper said with a slight laugh.
Natasha shook her head, "Alright fine. I'll come. But you know I'm not looking for any relationships. I'm just here for something new."
Pepper grinned, "We'll see."
Natasha still doubted that any of Tony's friends would be as nice as Pepper said but she wasn't worried about it. She needed to make friends and this was probably the easiest way to do it.
Pepper dropped Natasha off at the apartment she had bought, "Are you sure you don't want me to stay and wait for the moving truck? I can call Tony and we could help you unpack."
Natasha shook her head, "Don't worry about it. I don't have too many boxes so I'll be fine. You've already helped enough by helping me find this place and giving me a ride from the airport."
Pepper smiled, "Alright. If you need anything give me a call. We're only a few blocks away."
Natasha nodded, "Will do. Thanks again Pepper."
"Anytime," Pepper said with a sincere smile, before waving and driving off.
Natasha sighed and walked inside the apartment complex to get her key. She unlocked her door and took a step inside, admiring the small and yet spacious one room apartment that had come furnished. It was exactly what she had wanted.
The truck with her boxes arrived and she went back down to the street to greet it. She only had about ten boxes so she was hopeful that she'd be able to get done fairly quickly.
She was three boxes in when she had accidentally run into someone on the steps, sending her box to the ground and making the clothes inside fly all over the stairs.
Natasha cursed quietly in Russian and looked up, "I am so sorry, I wasn't paying attention to where I was...going."
She stopped when she looked up at the man in front of her. Man probably wasn't the right term...Greek God was more like it.
He had scruffy blonde hair that framed his chiseled features perfectly and a pair of blue eyes that could have drowned her if she let them.
"Don't be...I wasn't paying any attention either," He apologized, bending down to help her gather the clothes. She wondered where he was from...he didn't have a strong accent but there was certainly a hint of something that wasn't LA.
Natasha continued to gather her things and tried not to blush when the man sheepishly held out the bra that had managed to land on the railing, his own cheeks were probably as red as her hair.
"Thank you," Natasha managed, "I'm Natasha by the way."
The man smiled, "I'm Steve. Nice to meet you...where are you moving from?"
Natasha adjusted the box to rest on her hip, "Russia."
Steve looked impressed, "Wow....Do you need any help moving boxes?"
"That's alright, I don't want to make you late for wherever you're headed," Natasha said, truthfully, she wanted to see him lift something heavy just to get a better look at his biceps.
Steve shook his head, "You sure? I'm just heading over to a friend's house and I was going to be early anyways. It's the least I can do after running into you."
Natasha smiled, "Okay, let me put this in my apartment and then I'll show you where the rest of the boxes are."
Steve nodded and watched as Natasha quickly went up the steps to set the box down in her apartment before joining him on the steps again.
"So where are you from?" She asked, "You don't sound like you're from here."
Steve grinned, "Brooklyn. I only moved here a few years ago. I remodel homes and the business in LA was booming for that type of thing. What brought you to LA?"
"I wanted something new. I've got a few friends here and they said it was a great city to live in when you're young, single, and looking for a fresh start."
Steve nodded, "They're not wrong. What do you do?"
"I'm a teacher," Natasha said, smiling when Steve opened the door for her.
Steve picked up one of the boxes, that happened to be the one filled with books, and smiled, "What subject?"
Natasha tried to pull her attention away from the way Steve's biceps looked when he picked up the box long enough to answer the question, "I taught literature and science back in Russia."
Steve laughed, "Science was never my strong suit growing up. I'm pretty sure I failed chemistry."
Natasha grinned, "Well if you ever need a tutor, now you know who to call."
Steve's face flushed red again and Natasha decided that teasing Steve was easily going to be one of her favorite things to do in LA.
"Well, it looks like we're neighbors," Steve said when Natasha pointed him to her apartment. He set the box down neatly next to the rest and nodded towards the apartment across the way, "That's mine."
Natasha smiled, "Well I'm glad there will be one familiar face here. Now I know who to go to if I ever run out of sugar."
Steve laughed and they went down to get more boxes.
When there was only one left, Natasha was almost disappointed to say goodbye, which was ridiculous considering they had known each other for a total of 30 minutes.
"I'll see you around?" Steve asked.
Natasha nodded, "I'm sure. Thanks again for helping me with the boxes. Maybe I can cook you dinner one night as a thank you?"
Steve grinned, "That sounds great."
Natasha smiled, "Friday night at 6?"
"Sure," Steve said, his entire face lighting up with excitement.
Natasha picked up her final box, "Alright great. Bye Steve, thanks again."
Steve nodded and walked off to a motorcycle, giving her one last wave before driving off.
As she walked upstairs to her apartment, she couldn't help but feel excited about her 'date' with Steve...if that's even what it was. She hadn't come to LA looking to get into a relationship but she wouldn't mind so much if it meant she'd get to make out with her hot neighbor who was also adorably sweet.
After setting the box down, Natasha grabbed a piece of paper and wrote down her number on it with a smile before sliding it underneath Steve's door, suddenly finding herself wondering if he had a roommate, or worse, a girlfriend.
Her worries were eased later that night when she got a text from Steve simply saying, It was great meeting you today Natasha. Can't wait for Friday night!
She smiled, You too Steve. Thanks again for helping with the boxes.
Anytime.
Natasha smiled at his response and set her phone down on the charger.
Little did she know that Friday night would turn into something a little more intimate and that the next afternoon when she got ready to go to Pepper's, Steve would be going to the same place.
One thing led to another and Saturday night was spent just like Friday night.
They dated for a year before Steve proposed on the very steps where he had first met her.
They got married that winter and couldn't have been happier.
Now even after Steve had a few lessons from Natasha in science, he was still absolutely terrible at it. Luckily, the chemistry between he and Natasha came pretty naturally.
Hey guys. I've never written an AU before but I really couldn't resist with this idea because of what Yelena said and I wanted to write about them meeting in this scenario so I hope you enjoy it. If you did, I am thinking about making a separate book full of Romanogers AUs that would probably be updated a lot less often but would be 99% fluff and romance. If y'all would be interested in reading that let me know. I'm not making any promises yet but if enough people show interest then I'll definitely put some more thought into it!
If you enjoyed this, please comment and vote! And like always I hope you are all staying healthy and safe!
