The Death of Me
Inspired by Natasha_Rxgers saying she didn't need me to turn Steve saying Natasha would be the death of him into a one shot....but I decided to do it anyways. Sorry😂😂😂
Natasha woke up surrounded by warmth. Steve's arms were wrapped around her torso, his head buddies in her hair while one of his legs entangled with hers and his chest was pressed against her back.
She smiled to herself and turned in his arms so that she was facing him.
She glanced over at the clock and saw that it was almost nine, which was late for then even on a Sunday morning.
Natasha looked up at Steve and began peppering light kisses over his jaw and down to his shoulders.
He stirred and a slight smile curved onto his lips.
Natasha snaked her arms around Steve's neck and continued to lightly kiss his jaw.
Steve let out a low groan and slightly tightened his grip on her, pulling her flush against him.
Natasha let out a quiet laugh and smiled as she ran her fingers through his hair.
"Good morning." Steve finally said, opening his eyes and smiling at her.
"Did you sleep well?" Natasha asked, running her fingers along Steve's biceps and chest.
Steve hummed in response, "Better than I have in a while. Did you?"
Natasha nodded and smiled up at Steve.
Steve grinned back at her and rolled over with her still in his arms, pulling her on top of him and gently kissing her.
Natasha laughed and kissed him back for a few minutes before pulling away, "What's on our agenda today?"
"We've got a team meeting at eleven."
Natasha frowned and ran her hand up and down Steve's arm, casting him a flirtatious look, "How about we skip that and stay here all day instead?"
Steve sighed, "Don't do this to me Nat. You know we have to go."
Natasha pressed more kisses along Steve's collarbone and raised an eyebrow teasingly, "Do we really?"
Tilting his head back in pleasure, Steve forced himself to his, "Yes. We're pretty much the leaders of the team."
Natasha kissed him passionately for a minute and then pulled away completely, stepping out of bed and walking towards the bathroom with a michevious grin, "I guess you're right. In that case I need a shower."
Steve sighed and shook his head with a small laugh, "You're going to be the death of me."
"Are you coming or not?" Natasha teased with a grin, pausing at the doorway to the bathroom.
Steve jumped out of bed and quickly kissed Natasha, backing her into the bathroom.
-----------------
After the team meeting, Natasha was definitely regretting getting out of bed.
It was a Sunday afternoon and they were being sent on a mission, one that Natasha was pretty sure agents could handle without them.
She had made her objections to the mission very clear, even going as far as to flat out tell Fury she wasn't going.
But when Clint and Tony so kindly pointed out that her probable reason for objecting the mission was to spend time with Steve, she had reluctantly agreed.
Now they were sitting on the quinjet and she was still pissed.
"Romanoff lighten up, you and Capsicle can do the do when we get back tonight." Tony said, preparing his suit for the mission.
Natasha glared at him, "I'd watch what you're saying while you don't have that suit on. Right now there's nothing stopping me from breaking your arm except common courtesy."
Tony stepped back a little and rolled his eyes, "Rogers!"
Steve stepped out of the cockpit and sighed, "What Tony?"
"Natasha's trying to break my arm."
Natasha rolled her eyes and sat back, "I am not. I only warned him that I could if he doesn't shut his damn mouth."
Steve smiled a little and sat down besides Nat, "Why are you telling me this Tony? You really think that I would...or could, stop her from breaking your arm if she wanted to?"
Tony frowned, "No but you can make her chill out before we land."
Natasha rolled her eyes and glared at Tony.
Steve grabbed Natasha's hand and gave it a light squeeze, "If I were you Tony. I would just go somewhere else."
Tony shook his head but eventually joined Clint in the cockpit.
"Are you still mad about this mission?" Steve asked.
"What do you think?"
"Yes?" Steve asked.
"Yes."
"Come on Nat, it'll only be a few hours and then we have all night to ourselves." Steve said, kissing Natasha's cheek gently.
Natasha smiled, "I'm gonna hold you to that."
"Good," Steve said with a grin, standing up and grabbing his shield, "You ready to go?"
Natasha nodded, "The sooner we do this, the sooner we go home."
Steve laughed and opened the hatch, "Then we better get going."
The others joined the two and strapped parachutes on while Steve just jumped without one.
Natasha rolled her eyes and followed after Steve.
They all landed and the fighting started.
Their goal was to get to the inside of a rising terrorist group that had stolen Shield Intel. All they had to do was get it back.
Unfortunately, they hadn't anticipated how large the group had already become.
Even with all six of the avengers, they had still not managed to get inside yet.
Finally, Natasha decided to just go for it. She fired her tasers and gun at anyone in her way and maneuvered through the army to get to the base entrance.
"Nat! What are you doing?" Steve yelled, still fighting off the soldiers.
"Getting the Intel. Cover for me." She said as he got closer.
Steve nodded and ran besides Natasha, taking out everyone who fired at them and shielding them with his shield.
They finally found the computer room and Steve stood guard while Natasha worked quickly to recover the information.
"We almost have the Intel, get the quinjet ready to go." Steve said through the coms to everyone else.
Natasha nodded and held up a flashdrive, "Got them. Let's go."
Steve nodded and threw his shield at a few incoming men, "Nat we've got incoming."
Natasha nodded and shot at them, also trying to avoid getting shot in the process.
"How many do you see?" She asked.
"At least thirty. Maybe forty." Steve said, pulling Natasha down so she was also covered by his shield.
Natasha nodded and fired at the crowd of people, hoping to at least eliminate some targets before running into a wave of bullets.
Once the numbers had dwindled down a bit, Natasha and Steve ran at the men, each taking down a significant amount of men in a short amount of time.
"Natasha watch out!" Steve yelled, throwing his shield at a man who had snuck up behind her and was aiming a gun at her head.
Natasha ducked down and looked at the now dead man who had been moments away from killing her.
She grabbed the shield from where it had fallen and tossed it back to Steve, "Incoming on your left." She warned.
He slammed his shield into the incoming man and nodded at Natasha, silently thanking her.
They cleared enough of a path to make it out of the building and ran towards the quinjet.
They were almost at the jet when a man lunged at Natasha, grabbing her ankle and bringing her onto the ground.
She kicked the man off of her and reached for her gun.
The man grabbed it first and aimed it at Natasha.
Right before he could fire Steve's shield hit the gun down so that the bullet fired into the grass instead of into Natasha. Steve tackled the man to the ground, wrestling with his for the gun.
Natasha fumbled for another weapon.
Before she could aim her other gun at the man, there was a deafening crack and the gun fired.
Natasha fired at the man and he fell dead.
Feeling the panic consume her, Natasha ran to besides Steve.
He had been shot in the stomach and blood was everywhere.
Natasha pressed her hands to his wound and shook her head, "Damn it Steve. Don't do this to me."
Steve grabbed one of Natasha's hands and offered her a pained smile. He knew he wasn't getting out of this alive. He had already lost too much blood.
"Natasha. Go. Bring the Intel to shield."
Natasha shook her head, "No, are you crazy? I'm not leaving you. You're gonna survive this Steve. You have to survive this. I can't lose you."
Steve coughed and shook his head, "I'm not going to get out of this Nat. You have to leave me."
Natasha shook her head, her vision blurring with tears, "No. Steve please no. I love you. Don't leave me."
Steve struggled to keep his eyes open, "I love you too Natasha." He whispered, kissing her hand weakly.
His eyes closed and Natasha yelled out for help. Begging for anyone to save him.
"No Steve. Goddamn it you can't leave me! Steve!" She sobbed, shaking his now lifeless figure.
Clint ran up to Natasha and put his hand on her shoulder, "Natasha we have to go."
Natasha shook her head, "I'm not leaving him."
Tony flew down and lifted up Steve's body, knowing that bringing him was the only way Natasha was going to leave.
She got back onto the quinjet and stood by where Steve was laying on the operating table.
"Tony please save him," Natasha begged, her face flushed and her eyes filling with tears.
She had never felt so afraid...so lonely.
"I'll try." Tony promised.
Natasha was pulled away from Steve by Thor and Tony began to try and mend his wound and stop the bleeding. They would have to wait until they got back to shield to infuse his blood.
Natasha stood silently the while flight, staring at Steve with a fast beating heart and a pale face.
When they got to shield she followed the medics closely, pushing one of them away when they tried to pull her off into a seperate room.
"I'm not going anywhere." She said, casting a death glare at the nurse.
Eventually, they left her alone and began trying to replenish the blood Steve had lost.
Nearly three hours later, he was barely stable.
"Natasha, maybe you should get some sleep. I'll sit here with him for a while." Clint suggested, walking into the room.
Natasha shook her head, "I'm not leaving."
Clint sighed, "Can I at least bring you some food or water?"
"I'm not hungry."
Knowing that arguing with Natasha was pointless, Clint nodded and left the room again.
Natasha held Steve's hand and moved her thumb in circles over his palm, "Please wake up Steve. I need you," She whispered.
She put her head down on his bed and found herself slowly falling asleep.
Natasha didn't wake up until the middle of the night when she felt Steve's grip on her hand tighten.
Her head shot up and she watched Steve carefully for any sign that he was awake.
"Steve?" She asked softly.
He stirred again and Natasha held back a relived sob.
"Oh my god." She breathed, placing her hand on Steve's cheeks as he slowly opened his eyes and gave her a weak smile.
"Hi." He croaked.
Natasha shook her head, "You're an asshole Steve."
Steve frowned, "Why?"
"When you said I was going to be the death of you I didn't think you were actually going to get yourself killed for me." She said, frowning and shaking her head.
Steve laughed a little, "But I'm not dead."
"You almost were." Natasha said, sounding more upset then he had ever heard her.
"I'm okay Nat. I'm not going anywhere."
"Good."
Steve smiled and pulled Natasha's hand to his lips, gently kissing it, "I love you."
Natasha sighed in relief, "I love you too."
