Soulmates

"Hey Tony, I've got a question." Steve asked, walking into Tony's lab with a frown.
"What's up Cap?" Tony asked, setting down the tool he was using.
"Since the mission last week have you noticed any strange...marks?" Steve asked.
Tony frowned, "You mean after the crazy witch lady blasted us with some magic? No I haven't. Why?"
Steve frowned, "Because I woke up this morning and had this on my arm," Steve said, pulling back his sleeve to reveal a red symbol on his forearm.
Tony's brows furrowed and he squinted at the mark, "I've never seen anything like that before. It looks like a burn mark. Are you sure it appeared last night?"
Steve nodded, "I went to sleep and when I woke up this was on my arm. I was wearing a sweatshirt to sleep too. So there's no way I burnt it without damaging the sleeve of the shirt too."
"I don't know Steve, did you ask the rest of the team yet?"
"I asked Clint, Thor, and Bruce. None of them had it either. I haven't asked Nat yet." Steve replied.
"Mind if I take a picture? I'll try and do some research, see what I can find. In the meantime check with Romanoff. See if she happens to have it."
Steve nodded and walked out after letting Tony snap a picture of the mark.
He made his way to Natasha's room and knocked on the door.
Natasha opened the door quickly and Steve couldn't help but notice that she pulled her sleeve down.
"Hey." She said, moving to the side so Steve could come in.
"Hey, can I ask you something?"
Natasha shrugged with a grin, "You just did, but sure. What is it?"
"After the mission the other day, have you gotten any strange marks? Like symbols or anything?" Steve asked, scratching behind his ear. He wasn't sure why he was nervous.
"Like this?" Natasha said quietly, pulling up her sleeve to reveal the same mark on her forearm.
Steve nodded and did the same to his sleeve. "Do you know what it means?"
Natasha shook her head. "I only just saw it. I must have woken up with it this morning because I didn't notice it until I was getting ready today."
"That's when mine appeared too."
Natasha frowned, "Does everyone have it?"
Steve shook his head, "Just us."
"How is that even possible? All of us got hit by the same magic."
"I don't know. Tony is researching it right now. I was going to go check in with him right now if you want to join me." Steve offered.
Natasha nodded and followed behind Steve as they walked back to the lab. Her mind was racing and she couldn't help but wonder what the mark meant.
She had never heard of someone waking up with matching marks five days after being struck by magic. What made even less sense was that the entire team had been hit by the same magic and only her and Steve had the mark.
Maybe it was their super serum reacting to it?
She had no idea. She just wanted answers.
"Tony, Nat has it too. Have you found anything?" Steve said as they walked into the lab.
"Wait, you have it?" Tony asked Natasha, his eyes wide.
Natasha nodded and showed him. "Why? Did you find anything on it."
Tony nodded, "I did an image search for the mark and the results were all the same. I don't know why they only appeared on the two of you but the mark is the Greek symbol for soulmates."
Natasha's eyes widened and Steve blushed.
"What?" Natasha asked, glancing over at Steve, who looked very confused.
Tony showed them the research, "I don't know why whatever magic that witch hit us with made it appear, but that's what it means."
Steve's jaw fell open and he struggled to find words. Was this supposed to mean that he and Natasha were soulmates?
He didn't even believe in soulmates. Not to mention, he and Natasha had never even spoken of a romantic relationship.
Sure, his heart raced whenever she was around and his thoughts and dreams always consisted of her. But soulmates?
He didn't even think Natasha felt anything towards him. She had a thing with Bruce.
"So what? Is this supposed to mean Steve and I are soulmates. Tony this is ridiculous. This is real life, not some sappy rom-com. Are you sure it doesn't have another meaning?" Natasha asked, avoiding looking at Steve.
Tony held up his arms and turned the computer towards her. "Do your own research if you don't believe me. Every source I found on that mark has the same meaning."
Steve watched Natasha as she frowned and turned to face the door, "I need to go talk to that damn witch. You coming Steve?"
Steve nodded and followed behind her quickly.
The drive to the prison keeping her was long and awkward. There was never awkward silences between Steve and Natasha. Normally they would make small talk, or if it was silent it wouldn't feel so uncomfortable.
"I'm sorry." Steve finally said.
Natasha's brows furrowed, "For what?"
"I'm sorry you got stuck in this situation with me. I know you and Bruce have a thing. If this causes any problems between you two, I'm sorry." Steve said quietly, looking down.
Natasha sighed, "It won't cause any problems because we aren't together Steve."
Steve's brows furrowed, "But at the party...and Clint's farmhouse..." He said, recalling the night that she and Bruce had been flirting and then a few days later when they shared a room at Clint's house.
"I was drunk the night of the party. Drunk enough to think flirting with Bruce was a good way to get my mind off someone else. Unfortunately everyone, including him, got the wrong idea. That's why we had a room together at Clint's. Because Clint thought he was doing me a favor," Natasha said with a light huff, "Bruce is just...not my type." She said shaking her head.
Steve gave her a small smile, "And what is your type?"
Natasha smirked at Steve and rolled her eyes, "Tall, handsome, strong..."
"Ah I see. You prefer the Hulk." Steve teased.
Natasha hit Steve's arm and shook her head, not bothering to hide her smile.
Steve sat back, holding his arm and frowning as he thought back on what's he said, "Nat, what do you mean you flirted with Banner to get your mind off someone else?"
Natasha sighed, "He was a distraction. That's all."
Steve frowned at her sudden shift in mood and let the topic go.
The rest of the ride was silent again. Steve worried that maybe he had asked too many questions. Natasha was a private person, she didn't like to share.
When they finally arrived at the prison, Natasha used her shield badge to get her and Steve into the visiting area, where the witch would be brought to.
"This lady was clearly insane. Are we sure we can trust anything she says?" Steve asked Natasha quietly.
Natasha nodded, "She was crazy, but I don't think she'll lie. If anything, I think she'll overshare."
"Alright...what was her name again?"
"She called herself Bedisa."
Steve nodded, recalling the odd name. They sat quietly at a table and waited for the women to be brought out.
When she finally came out, Bedisa gave both Steve and Natasha a sick and twisted grin that seemed all too genuine.
"I knew it would be you two." She said, laughing as she took a seat across from Steve and Natasha.
Steve's brows wrinkled in confusion, "What do you mean?"
Bedisa shrugged, "I mean, the chemistry you two have is obvious. I could see it just by battling you. Not to mention you two eye fucking the entire mission."
This lady had to be insane. Natasha rolled her eyes. "Stop rambling and answer our questions. What did you do to us that made this mark appear?"
"All I did was make your gate more obvious. I take it you figured out the meaning of the symbol?" She asked.
Natasha shook her head before Steve could respond. "No, please enlighten us."
"It's the symbol for soulmates. For true love."
Natasha rolled her eyes again and leaned back, "What does that have to do with us? And why doesn't anyone else have if it?"
"Because you two are soulmates. Is it not obvious. And no one else has it because they aren't. All I did was cast a spell that would mark the two nearest soulmates." Bedisa explained.
Natasha shook her head and stood up from her chair, "We're done here."
She walked out of the visiting room and Steve looked at Bedisa with a weary look, "How can we trust anything your saying?"
"Why would I lie? Plus. You know your feelings. Does my claim really seem that far fetched?" Bedisa asked with a smirk.
Steve didn't answer, he just stood up and followed Natasha out of the prison.
"Nat wait up," Steve said, jogging behind Natasha as she headed towards their car. Natasha didn't slow down.
"What's wrong? Nat?" Steve asked, finally catching up with her.
"Natasha!" Steve said again, grabbing her arm so she would face him.
"What!?" Natasha yelled, pushing his hand off her.
"What's going on with you?" Steve asked, searching her eyes for an answer.
"Nothing." She said, walking away from Steve again and starting to open the door.
Steve closed it just as quickly and stood so close to Natasha that she was practically pinned against the car.
"You never storm out of an interrogation like that. Obviously your upset about something? Is it what Bedisa said?"
Natasha shook her head and tried to push Steve away, although she didn't use her full strength, "No. Leave me alone."
"Not until you tell me what's wrong." Steve said, not moving an inch.
"Steve I swear to God! Move!" She yelled pushing him harder.
Steve grabbed Natasha's hands and frowned, "Nat please. Just talk to me. Obviously what Bedisa just told us was a lot. You have a right to be upset, just please tell me why."
Surrendering to Steve's strong but gentle grip and the broken look in his eyes, Natasha looked up at him. "I barely believe in love Steve, having someone tell me that I have a soulmate is a little bit hard to swallow."
"You don't believe her?" Steve asked, trying to hide his frown.
"I don't know." Natasha said, not looking at Steve.
Steve paused. "I do."
Natasha looked at Steve in shock. "You do? Why?"
"After you left, I asked her why we should trust her. She told me that I didn't have to, I just have to trust myself. Natasha Everytime your around, I feel like myself. I don't feel like Captain America, I just feel like Steve Rogers. You make me feel like I belong here. And I've been ignoring my feelings for you because I didn't think you could ever feel the same...maybe you don't, but if I have a soulmate, then I'm more then willing to believe it's you." Steve explained.
Natasha let go of Steve's hand and gently cupped his face, "I'm still not sure about the soulmate thing..." Natasha whispered, moving closer to Steve and stopping just before her lips touched his, "but I'm willing to give this love thing a shot if you are?"
Steve didn't answer, instead he just pulled her lips to hers, moving so that Natasha was completely pinned against the car.
Natasha moaned in surprise and wrapped her arms around Steve so that she could pull him closer.
They didn't pull apart until their lungs were both screaming for air.
When they did, Natasha couldn't help but let out a light laugh, "If you keep kissing me like that then I definitely wouldn't mind you being my soulmate." She teased.
Steve smirked, "Come on. Let's go home."
They both got into the car and Natasha began driving them home. Steve gently placed his hand over hers and she smiled over at him.
Sighing in contentment, Natasha nodded slightly to herself. Maybe she didn't believe in soulmates, but she definitely believed in Steve.
Hey guys. Sorry this chapter took two days to get out. It's longer then normal (2000 words) and it was a little challenging to write.
