Safe House
Steve bought Natasha an apartment in Brooklyn as a surprise but when they are forced to go on the run again because the government and Shield are after them, he has to ruin the surprise and show her early.
Steve couldn't help but smile when he walked out of his bedroom to find Natasha sitting on his couch with his mug in her hands.
"Morning," She said, smiling over at him.
Steve smiled and walked over to her, bending down to kiss her gently, "Good morning. When did you get here?"
Natasha shrugged, "A few hours ago, our mission ended around midnight but we had a pretty long debriefing."
Steve laughed, "You could have joined me in bed."
"I know, I figured I'd eat all your food and drive up your electricity bills instead," She said with a smirk.
Steve rolled his eyes, at this point, everything he owned was hers too so he didn't mind at all, "Next time let me know when your coming and I'll restock my pantry before you get here."
Natasha grinned, "Will do."
Steve walked to the kitchen and found a cup of coffee waiting for him. He smiled again, realizing just how much he enjoyed mornings with Natasha. It made him even more excited about the surprise he was trying to save for their one-year-anniversary.
He had bought them an apartment near where he had grown up. It was in a nicer part of Brooklyn and when he had seen it online, he really just couldn't resist going to visit. When the real estate agent had told him there was only a limited amount of time to place an offer, he had done so with little hesitation.
Natasha practically stayed on his floor every night anyways and he was starting to want a space to go to that wasn't full of his other teammates.
"Want some breakfast?" Steve asked, pulling himself from his thought so that not made Natasha suspect him.
Natasha nodded as she came to sit at the counter across from him, "Sure, but I should probably tell you that Fury wants to see us in thirty minutes."
Steve frowned, "Another mission?"
"He didn't say," Natasha said with a shrug, standing up from her seat, "You go get dressed and I'll make us some eggs and toast."
Steve nodded, kissing her quickly before going to get ready to meet Fury.
When he came out of his bedroom, the kitchen smelt of burnt toast.
Natasha sighed, "I burnt the toast again."
Steve shrugged, taking a slice anyways, "That's alright. I like mine a little burnt anyways."
Natasha rolled her eyes, "You're a terrible liar."
Steve smiled and took a bite from the nearly black piece of bread. It was very burnt.
"You ready to go?" He asked once they had both finished.
Natasha nodded, grabbing her phone from the counter and walking alongside of Steve as they headed to Fury's office.
"What do you think this is about," Steve asked.
Natasha shrugged, "I don't know...he hasn't sent out a file so it's either a serious mission or something else."
Steve nodded. Soon enough they made it to his office and found a group of agents walking out of his office. They nodded at the two before leaving.
Natasha opened the door and they both walked in to see Fury looking more annoyed then normal.
He motioned for Natasha to close the door and she did so before seating herself next to Steve.
Fury pulled out his phone and on it was a screen much like what he had showed Steve when Hydra had first corrupted Shield.
Written on it was simply the words, We've been compromised again.
"I need you two on another mission starting immediately." He said, holding the screen still.
Natasha frowned, "What's the mission?"
It's a new organization.
"I need you two to track down a dealer."
Steve frowned, "Weapons dealer?"
There's a mole leaking Shield Intel.
"Not exactly. We don't know much about him, but what we do know is in a file I've sent you. Find him and bring him in."
I don't want either of you going after him. Find a safe place and lay low until we can get this under control.
Natasha frowned, "Where's the mission?"
All the safe-houses are compromised too, but I've wired you a few thousand dollars to pay for shelter until we've handled it.
"Alaska."
Steve frowned as well, "Is that all?"
Fury shook his head.
Don't trust anyone but each other.
"You have to leave by the end of the day. We are already running behind on catching this guy."
Natasha sighed, keeping her expression neutral, "Yes sir."
Steve nodded as well and they walked out of his office together.
Natasha's eyes scanned everyone who they walked by and Steve couldn't help but wonder why they were being made to lay low until this was over. If Shield was comprised, why send away its two best agents?
"Wanna help me pack?" Natasha asked.
Steve nodded, knowing that she had the only floor in the entire compound that wasn't bugged because she had devices that would destroy any cameras or mics.
Once they were inside, she locked the door and instantly let the worry on her face shine through, "Who could be a mole?"
Steve sighed, "I don't know...everyone's been under such close watch since Hydra's infiltration. Maybe one of the newer members. One that was better at lying then we thought?"
Natasha shook her head, "Maybe. It all feels off though. Why send us away?"
"I have no idea. Maybe Fury thinks they'll be more careless if we aren't here."
Natasha sighed, "Well, aside from Shield safe-houses, I don't have any left to go to. Got any ideas?"
Steve frowned. He had one, but it would certainly ruin the surprise he had planned for just a few months later, "Maybe...it's last resort though."
Natasha frowned, "We're at last resort."
"Alright. Let's pack and then I'll drive us there. It's in Brooklyn."
Natasha nodded and quickly threw as many essentials as she could into a large duffel bag, along with her suit and weapons.
Steve went up to his floor to do the same before meeting her at the garage.
Natasha headed for her Corvette but Steve stopped her, "Let's take the bike, it won't stand out as much in Brooklyn."
She couldn't help but grin, "Sounds like maybe you have learned a little something from me."
Steve grinned and they took off on his bike.
A few hours later, because of traffic, the two arrive outside the small apartment.
"What is this place? Is this where you grew up?" Natasha asked as Steve opened the door to the apartment.
Steve shook his head, "Well, it was actually supposed to be a surprise, but I bought it."
Natasha raised her eyebrows, "Yeah?"
He nodded, "Living in the compound is a little cramped and we practically live together anyways, so I was planning on asking you to move into it with me on our one-year anniversary."
Natasha smiled, "We would live here?"
Steve nodded, smiling as she explored the rustic and yet modern design of the three bedroom apartment, "What do you think?"
"I think you're a hopeless romantic," Natasha teased, before wrapping her arms around Steve's neck and pressing a long but slow kiss to his lips, "But I love the idea of living with you."
Steve beamed, "Really?"
Natasha laughed, "Don't look so surprised. Like you said, we practically live together anyways. Not to mention, now we don't have other people to worry about so we can be as loud as we want."
Steve blushed, "We'll still have neighbors Nat."
She shrugged, "These walls looks pretty soundproof to me...what do you say, wanna test them out?"
Steve shook his head with a small laugh but simply couldn't resist her as she dragged him into the bedroom nearest to them.
The walls weren't soundproof, and later that night they received a call asking them to shut the hell up.
Natasha had simply taken that as a challenge.
The mole didn't matter anymore, because they were finally alone.
They'd need Fury to send them to a "safe-house" more often if it was always going to go like this.
Hey guys. I'm not super pleased with this chapter but I wanted to get something out to you guys. If you enjoyed, please comment and vote. Sorry I didn't give more info on why they were sent away but I honestly just made it happen for the sake of Steve showing her the apartment.
Like always, if you enjoyed please comment and vote, and I hope you're all staying safe and healthy.
